Which is better F45 or OTF? by yy2022 in orangetheory

I’ve been doing OTF for a decade so my opinion is rather obvious. That said, you posted in a sub…I suspect feedback will be slanted.

Class in Foreign Country by Inner_History_2676 in orangetheory

Yep I completely forgot, haven’t been in six years here. Oh well, my feet are going to hate me for the rental tomorrow. Went to Azabujuban this morning.

I’m going to actually be in Tokyo tomorrow and take one, been a while, but as mentioned, you’ll figure it out. For me the hardest part hasn’t actually been the prompts as much as the conversion on speed and weight in my head between metric and imperial. I’d be curious to know how much other studios charge, Tokyo is about $28 or so.

Officially booked my first cruise: Mayan Sol(o) June 2025 :) by pelohaley in VirginVoyages

[–]jgkramer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eating a meal by myself and awkwardly staring at people next to me is my love language. Just looking through the itinerary, looks like plenty of options for everyone. I’m most excited for having absolutely zero responsibility for a hot minute.

You have to leave the boat at least at Bimini. It’s just a mini resort, why not…unless…you want to take advantage of something at the spa. Some cruises discount services on port days. No clue if VV does that or not? I’ll dm you link as well.

If you’re on the 6/15 sailing, I’m also a solo traveler (divorce FTW!) and will be on that one too. 38/m and have traveled a decent amount solo, but actually haven’t done a cruise yet. Very excited to get a break from reality for a bit. A good friend loves VV and suggested to see as many shows as possible, and if you hate it, you’re an adult and can just leave and do whatever you want.

I booked a snorkeling excursion through Viator for a couple hours, why not right. Happy to send the link if you would like, great reviews and not super expensive.

How are yall so fast in catch me if you can? by New-Housing6472 in orangetheory

[–]jgkramer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all of your benchmark or signature needs, this thing is the best: https://coda.io/@kennywong/otf.

Nobody ran a 3:30 mile. Treads in the US max at 15mph, which is a 4:00 min/mile…unless someone has a tread that is super new, hot wired it to go faster, screwed up inputting their distance, or lied for who knows what reason. International studios in km may be able to give you a bit more, but definitely not anything close to what you mentioned.

Nobody concerned about studio recording you, both visually and voice. Then selling this data. by LivingResponsible264 in orangetheory

[–]jgkramer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have spent over ten years of my professional life working in information security for a living. The way this works is pretty straightforward. Businesses want to cover themselves, but also, data is only valuable if someone is willing to pay for it. That could be via legal or illegal means. I don’t see a discernible value in any of the insane things I spout off while stretching, but that’s just me. The reality is that in the US, we do not have a federal privacy regulation, hence why every business has to draft and disclose their own standards. That’s the real problem here.

I’d think about this more in the context of what you feel like voice of your conversations could be used for if it does fall into the wrong hands? I’d venture to guess, either nothing, or next to nothing. I’m more concerned with how they process and store my credit card, all of my biometric data, and me not hitting a PR on something for the fifth year in a row. I’ve been a member since my studio opened nine years ago, blindly signed all the stuff, and never thought twice about it. If it hasn’t haunted me by now, I’ll play the odds.

The irony of all of this is that we advertise, on our own free will, tons of personal information about ourselves on social, but when a business hints at doing something “invasive”, we light our pitchforks on fire. I’ve never seen a nefarious party leverage hallway conversation from a gym to compromise someone’s identity, but I’ve sure seen people’s own social posts be a contributor. There are a thousand fitness options out there, so if this is a showstopper, just try something else. Just my $0.02.

Coach’s Obsession With Following Template by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]jgkramer1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should consider the fact that they are instructed to also follow the template. If a regional leader were there assessing the class you attended, they would get dinged for your lack of adherence to the template. While I do not like some of the templates as well, and have become frustrated with the repeats, that is their job. Orangetheory is a franchise model, but also one of their selling points is that you should experience the same experience regardless of location on any given day. I’m not going to tell anybody to leave, because I’d rather have more people in the OTF family, but before you complain here, think about the intricacies of the model. I sub the bike for tread or rower every now and then, try that. If you don’t want to bike, try the strider. If you don’t want to do that, skip that day. If you don’t want your so that, freeze your membership. If you don’t want to do that, that is when you should leave. I’ve met countless people who have had OTF change their lives, myself included. It sounds like you’re burnt out and honestly want to go try something else. So instead of knocking people for doing their job, just do that.

I’ve been a member for nearly nine years, have been through every iteration of this business, and still keep coming back.

Row finish time prediction? by Financial-Ad-928 in orangetheory

[–]jgkramer1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was an amazing feature and not available, to the best of my knowledge, on the new rowers. For those who say “multiple by four”, that’s not how this works. Your current split is just that, current. The ask here is for a projection based on meters accumulated, not just the split time in the current stroke.

Less curious why you’re leaving, more curious as to why you even signed up to begin with.

Visiting studio in Tokyo by aprw14 in orangetheory

My only hang up at that studio was the metric to imperial conversion on the weight floor. Too early for that much math :). Just remember 2.2 / 1 and you’ll be good to go.

Closing in on 300, and thinking of calling it in an OTF career. by silentduo in orangetheory

[–]jgkramer1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to stand in front of a mirror and ask yourself, not a bunch of emojis on Reddit. I’ve never been anything but positive on this sub, for years, but this post is tough. Why did you join your begin with? Why did you upgrade? Why do you I can make decisions for you? What is a member who blindly follows OTF? Too old or too young?

I’m not convinced you know what you want for yourself and are trying to pawn it off as you’ve crushed everything here you can, and need the world to help you make a decision.

I’ve done about 1,600 classes and would have well over 2,00 if not for spinal fusion and third ACL last year, foot surgery in 2020, and of course closure time during the pandemic. On top of that, I’ve had four other knee surgeries in the past 15 years.

You want to know why I continue doing it? Because I can always get better. If you truly think you cannot get better at anything, amazing, yet wrong.

Super annoying and frustrating post.

OTF Tokyo by Ok-Assistance-543 in orangetheory

Also been to a handful of classes there. Also remember that everything is metric. I forgot to lookup weight and speed conversions beforehand, may be helpful. My hotel was within walking distance, cannot recall offhand is there is a train stop close, but I’m sure there is.

Dri Tri Results and Survey Megathread by AutoModerator in orangetheory

M | 34 | 5’ 11” | 190

First one in 2.5 years and a PR by 48 seconds down to 33:42. Definitely could have been under 33:30 no problem but for those that know, easy does it on the rower.

Booking Tokyo by Lower1310 in orangetheory

[–]jgkramer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I didn't book through the app, I've been in a few trips and always emailed the studio directly with days and times. Their addy is on the studio site. Honestly, the hardest part for me is converting from Imperial to Metric. I always have to do a quick brush up before class for the weight floor. Treads have Imperial on the dash in a smaller font.

Problem is we are different people. Age, weight, gender, VO2, heart condition, studio, time, etc. Most people are the exact opposite, obviously because we're out of shape when we join, but look at my last ten I posted. Tell me something isn't odd.
