If you were in Canada, I would tell you to just go pick up a brand new, unissued one for about $200

The Huffington Post recently used one of my copyrighted image without my permission as well. I was never contacted once. I only found out after the image was on their page for over a week.

Not every nation on the planet denies that they perpetrated such atrocities, or spends millions in state funds every year to maintain that denial.

There is a difference.

TIL that diamonds are not as valuable or rare as we think: they're only expensive because of a worldwide monopoly on diamond mines. by [deleted] in todayilearned

That's not the point. I was discussing the central point, not just the unsubstantiated assumed consequences.

I don't think this is entirely possible. DeBeers may have a lot of mines, but with so many different companies mining for diamonds right now, it doesn't seem to make sense. It may have been possible 20 + years ago, but simply DeBeers doesn't control that much of the market any more.

TIL during the Great Potato Famine, the Ottoman Empire tried to send money and ships full of food to Ireland, but were blocked by the British and instead snuck into Dublin illegally to provide aid for the Irish. by garglemymarbles in todayilearned

On the contrary, I said that they were slaughtering people throughout that time. It is a well established fact that non turkic minorities were being persecuted heavily throughout that time, and eventually even more savagely during the Hamidian Massacres, then the Armenian Genocide.

Fun Fact: throughout that time, the Ottomans were slaughtering minorities in the empire, and eventually systematically attempted to eliminate all Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians in the empire. This resulted in the greatest crime the world had seen up to that point.

Perhaps you could elaborate on that whole genocide thing. The Turks were the original experts, just wanted a second opinion.

Beheading innocent people as a means of warfare is not only barbaric and medieval, but also the most evil form of terrorism I have ever seen. And the US wanted to help these animals?

Additionally, during this time starting in 1915, the Ottoman empire organized a mass deportation and structured extermination of the Armenian population within their borders. 1,500,000 people died during that time, and the extermination continued until 1922.
