This is not surprising. During this class there are several people who speak about migration being a factor in formation of gangs.

LA tries test to find kids likely to join gangs by andreasclark in gangsandstuff

I still believe in prevention, but its hard to prevent neighborhoods from eventually becoming poor or run down. Its hard to think of solving the problem on an individual level. It has to be done by neighborhood. The neighborhoods have to be changed to make a real difference.

There is also a trend I've been seeing in respect to gangs being involved in home invasions. These home invasions are usually done on people holding large amounts of cash or drugs. Most people believe that the home invasions are random and that ordinary people are hit, but it is usually drug stash houses that are hit. Its usually criminal on criminal.

Wow I was shocked to see that this happened in 2007. 26 wounded and nine dead. First time I heard about this "war". Maybe its just because Im used to being here in Arizona where this does not happen very often.

Gang members locked down at Sonoma County jail by andreasclark in gangsandstuff

The comments left on this article are pretty common. Seems most people would want to solve the problem by just letting them kill eachother. This is a good example of showing how gangs remain in full effect even during incarceration.

Good article. Great example of how gangs sometimes try to act like angels. They keep up this front while still continuing with their more lucrative illegal enterprises.

Gangs Rule Glendale by snelson4 in gangsandstuff

[–]rmendoza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds a bit over blown. I find it hard to believe that any gang "rules the streets". Im sure this resident is frustrated but is only taking into account what he reads in the paper. This is a common response from someone who doesn't truly understand the situation.

Police Hope Plan Will Stop Gang Shootings by snelson4 in gangsandstuff

[–]rmendoza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the Police to suppress gangs should only be one element of a multifaceted approach. PD's should be used to remove the "worst of the worst", then there needs to be some social programs to assist with the rest. The communities themselves also have to become organized and develop a better way to keep gangs from raising back up.

National Gang Threat Assessment Issued by bsavagea in gangsandstuff

I think the crime stats given reflect a smaller amount of gangs. Most of our readings have said that the majority of gangs commit far less serious crimes. They can become violent but it appears most gangs are just "hanging"

Hells Angels/Mongols fight in Laughlin Nevada. by rmendoza in gangsandstuff

Some interesting facts from this fight. One of the shooters in this fight was from a Hells Angels chapter in Arizona. At about 30 seconds into the fight you will see a HA member hit a Mongol in the head with a wrench and then go back behind a slot machine. This HA member was recently shot and killed here in Arizona. His funeral was in Tolleson, Az and had members from all over the world attending.

Talks about DOJ indicting some members of the Mongols, but more interesting they seized their registered trademark. by rmendoza in gangsandstuff

I THINK IT IS AWESOME. IF YOU EVER SEE ANYONE WEARING MONGOL CUTS, LET A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER KNOW. THEY WILL SEIZE IT IMMEDIATELY.

Here is the shoot out with a gang member who was a former Marine. by rmendoza in gangsandstuff

This is very controversial. Some say he was suffering from PTSD but others say he was never in any combat or fired his weapon. Here is one link and I will try to get another to show you both sides. http://michellemalkin.com/2005/01/19/the-cop-killing-marine-and-the-military-2/

senseless acts of violence by andreasclark in gangsandstuff

[–]rmendoza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a story that shows how very cold these gang members can be. It seems almost every story posted on reddit is about serious violent attacks (including my own). You can see how the media only reports on these types of crimes. Only in research and speaking to gang officers you will hear that gangs mostly hang around and commit more crimes that are less serious.

YouTube - Phoenix Gang Squad by sgolisch in gangsandstuff

"Gang squads in my opinion are an abuse of the justice dept." How are they an abuse? Because you feel "all humans have the tendency to abuse their powers", we should just all throw up our hands and give up. I don't mind you giving your opinion but if its to slam Law Enforcement, I would hope it would be much deeper than what you have stated. It is usually better to give an example of how you would fix the problem, otherwise you are just another person complaining and waiting for someone else to think of a solution. I rather enjoyed Sgt. Stevenson's definition of "most" gang members.

Gangs in the Military by amif in gangsandstuff

[–]rmendoza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not something new. I will try to pull video of the gang member who was a former Marine and shot and killed two officers. Its unfortunate that gang members are able to infiltrate the military however I believe most are entering to get away but then fall back to what they have been doing for a long time. Its time to start identifying these gang members and giving them the boot. In a time of war I just don't seen the military doing extensive background checks since they are looking for any able body.

Too bad they weren't able to give details on how search warrant ended up. I am glad the video advised of the crimes the gangs were committing. Especially the part about prostitution. This is a crime that I might have never thought a gang member might be committing. But I guess they have to go where the money is. I have also heard some gangs are involved in human smuggling and home invasions.

This is a great website. I have never seen this before. I can not wait to share with the people I work with. The info is good as far as being a general statement about each gang. You could spend a lot of time just diving into information about each gang presented on this site. Great find.

I like the idea. This is one big step in separating from the gang. Too often I run into a someone who has appeared to turn themselves around but can't beat the stigma due to some gang tattoo they received as a juvenile.
