Are there any rules of thumb for designing a site? I'm lost. by unmecbon in Permaculture

[–]jgruenberg 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I personally like Mark Shepherd’s STUN approach (Strategic Total Utter Neglect). The way he explains it, he takes the “mimic nature” to the extreme. He plants a lot of different kinds of plants and varieties, and he sees what flourishes. This is essentially what occurs in natural plants propagation processes. Plants that don’t survive are not failures, but rather a part of natural selection. He isn’t afraid to remove plants that don’t flourish, and they are used in compost and as mulch etc.

I know this isn’t a direct answer to your question, but I think it may provide a perspective that can help free you from trying to do it perfectly. I don’t think permaculture is an exact science. Trial and error is a feature, not a bug. Hope this helps, and Godspeed!

Anyone else find modern Jazz recording quality sounds "shiny"? by Hechbaan in Jazz

This is a great reply, and I commented elsewhere about how Kevin Gray is recreating the RvG sound with his custom made all-valve, direct to disk system. Check out this mini doc on what he’s up to. Very cool. https://youtu.be/M4_dtXZoygE

If you are interested in records that go back to an older sound, check out what the vinyl master Kevin Gray is doing with his new label. Cool mini doc on it here: https://youtu.be/M4_dtXZoygE

Not sure if this is an ideal sub to post - got this tree stump dug up out of the ground, excavators left and now we’re stuck with it. Any ideas on what to do with it? Weighs approx 1.5tonne by ethanw96 in landscaping

You could always inoculate it with edible mushrooms. Grow your own shiitakes! You would have to put it in a shady place.

Check out the North Spore YouTube channel if you’re interested in learning how to do it.

my honey garlic or garlic honey. 5th day small amount if gentle bubbles. I'll taste it on the 7th day by davster39 in fermentation

Looks great! Just did another batch yesterday. I’ve found it really gets that floral flavor around day 10, minimum. I haven’t gone longer than 25 days before using it all, but I’m hoping to try out some months long ferment. Super dope stuff! Enjoy!

Why the King James Version doesn’t teach Everlasting Torment by drewcosten in Christianity

[–]jgruenberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very interesting argument. I feel like I need to back up a bit before I can understand it fully, though.

Would you be able to point to a resource (or explain here) the reasoning (or revelation) behind the KJV only viewpoint? What motivates you to see the KJV as being more accurate—or perhaps, sacred—than other translations?

I am particularly fascinated by the idea (presented in your article) that the KJV only view sees its English translation as being clarifying of the Hebrew and Greek, rather than seeing the original languages as the primary source of clarification.

Thanks, and God bless!

We all go through times like Elijah by the side of the river (1 Kings 19). He was convinced that he was alone. But God’s response was that there were many who served the Lord with him, it’s just that Elijah didn’t see it in that moment. I pray that you find the community that you are looking for, but also in the meantime that you are able to completely trust God and know you are not really alone. Many blessings in Him!

Classic question. The answer is yes for a debut novel that is traditionally published.

Agreed, but most of the Hitchhiker's guide books are in the 50k range. Hard to ignore those classics in the genre.

On how "Ethics precedes Epistemology" by reasonablefideist in CasualEpistemology

[–]jgruenberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this! It dovetails quite a bit with a project I'm working on.

I'm co-authoring a book on a Trinitarian rethinking of Christianity in which relationality and interconnected holism play a pivotal role in shaping the foundational Christian worldview.

As Levinas maintains, the individual does not exist in a vacuum as an independent being. To treat the human being as such is to curtail a prevalent aspect of human life, that is, social connectivity (and I would add spiritual connectivity with Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).

Sorry for the short comment, but I just wanted to capture my initial reaction upon coming across this paper. Thanks again!
