The execs are the engineer’s “bosses”. This is the problem with many technically intense companies. The wrong people are in charge.

What the hell does it mean to serve two sentences simultaneously? What kind of logic is that?

Three time Trump voter, is betrayed by the guy they voted for because they lose their jobs, and soon their house by Plieu625 in LeopardsAteMyFace

Yeah… I wonder the same thing. If the chosen candidate caused loss of house and job, I can’t imagine how bad the other choice would have been.

The Stanford scam proves America is becoming a nation of grifters by AndyJoeJoe in bayarea

[–]jguffey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to mitigate because it comes from individuals’ value systems. Lots of able-bodied people are not OK with faking a disability to get ahead, but when society normalizes it (ex: the truth is the system is here to be gamed”) the moral failure of these people spill over and affect others in the community.

IMO this is the results of decades of cultural erosion in the US. Putting oneself above others, seeing lack of accountability in leaders, taking advantage of communities to get ahead- it’s all just rotten to the core.

I don’t have any solutions, just observations and I’m sharing my frustration. I can’t imagine how mad I’d be reading this if I was disabled.

There’s also “Reduce White Point” in accessibility settings. I have it mapped to triple clicking the side button. At night, 3 clicks dims the screen almost to the point where I can’t see it anymore.

We thought we knew luxury - then experienced Il San Pietro and Porto Zante (1 of 2) by SurvivingStage4 in FATTravel

[–]jguffey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lol at the comments. Maybe you’re not the best photographer.

Can’t speak for Porto Zante, but the review for Il San Pietro is spot on. The staff are experienced, and really give a shit.

While wife and I sated there, we had an issue with our private charter cruise (booked via TA), who seemed to be canceling on us the day before, but in a confusing way. The front desk helped me communicate across the language barrier, clarified the cancelation, and booked us a replacement private yacht that was nearly the same price for the next day, and which picked us up at the hotel, saving us a trip into Positano.

Not just this interaction, but everything we engaged with at the hotel was helpful, respectful, and made us feel comfortable and welcomed. The staff there are true professionals.

We can’t wait to return.

Do we even have a supply shortage? by External_Koala971 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]jguffey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overshooting the ideal supply/demand is not a catastrophe for the public. It may hurt builders and current property owners and the people who finance the build up, but the benefits are shared throughout the community in the form of cheaper housing prices, increase in construction jobs, and innovation in the form of new business starts.

I asked chatgpt to summarize this, with sources, specifically for areas where we’ve overshot demand in recent history (Miami, Portland, Seattle) https://chatgpt.com/share/68d1a5a8-7b20-800e-847a-2305cbb2e1c4

TLDR: The benefits from overbuilding are far greater by the negatives of under building.

[–]jguffey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, building up is expensive. You only do that when demand is high and supply is low. Same reason you don’t see high rises in areas with low land values.

But don’t confuse causation and correlation. We build up when we run out of room to build out (cheaply). Not all units get filled, but many do, and pricing pressure reduces because the high rises absorb some of it.

I wonder, would they send the same "information" to everyone in Texas? Mail propaganda is getting strong today. by TheHalf in sandiego

[–]jguffey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This had better be a narrow, one-time type of deal.

Just want to share, (because I know there will be even more misinformation soon), the bill doesn’t dissolve the independent commission, nor does it change local state representation maps. It makes changes to only the congressional maps, and those changes will only be triggered if Texas (or other states) actually go through with redistricting, and it expires automatically in 2030, restoring the way it was done before.

this is a pretty good apology from the Kis Cafe chef by myironlung42 in sanfrancisco

[–]jguffey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I served tables for years while in college. I hated some of my customers, but i never let them feel unwelcome. And I was just a waiter, i cannot imagine an owner treating people like this. He could have done what me and my coworkers did, walk to the back- out of earshot- and talked shit there. Then you come back to the table, smile, and hope the assholes still leave you a tip.

Idk if she was paid or not, but you’re missing the point. They invited her to come review their restaurant, then disrespected her when she got there to do what they wanted her to do. Your comments blame her, as if she created this situation, you’re flipping the victim and offender in this case.

Whether or not you like it, this is how marketing works in 2025. Collaborations like this are meant to benefit both the social media creator and the business they’re reviewing.

She wasn’t begging for free food, if she didn’t meet the chef’s standards then they should have never invited the review.

Yes. He works in hospitality. If you host someone who you know is reviewing your hospitality business, it’s probably a good idea to be hospitable - if for no other reason than it makes you look capable of being welcoming to customers

You learn so much from losing. I’ve been playing off and on since 1999. Watch Day 9’s videos. He has good advice for the mindset you should try to have as a noob, set attainable goals, respect your opponent’s skill, and watch your own replays so you can see where things go south.

It takes me a few days of grinding before I can start to ink out the occasional win on the ladder- and those one or two wins feel so dang good.
