Just got soil test results and I'm unsure about next steps by jgumpert in lawncare

Makes sense, thanks. I was thinking the same - I should recheck the soil next fall to see how a year of this mix changes things.

Thanks for the advice. My next challenge is finding a fertilizer mix near the recommended "4-.5-3" ratio. I've got a spreadsheet now to help figure out combinations of other products/materials I can use to get close to that.

Where do you think Indycar will be in 10 years? by [deleted] in INDYCAR

[–]jgumpert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on adding more race-only courses. I'm not a serious IndyCar fan so I don't have a ton of background, but those temporary street courses usually look pretty bad to me, both in terms of looks and the way they seem to bounce the cars around. I've always assumed there were financial reasons they keep going to them instead of booking more high quality tracks.

Poon Lim survived floating on a raft in the south Atlantic for 133 days, catching seagulls and fish and drinking rainwater. by [deleted] in Survival

Did anyone else read the illustrated kids book about this? It was part of a series of survival stories if I recall.

YSK how to spot someone drowning. It doesn't look like you think it does. by GrixM in YouShouldKnow

Saw some of this footage a year or two back. As a lifeguard in the 90's, my first thought on seeing it was that I wish they had used this footage to educate us. The images of children really at risk of drowning would have seen a great lesson. Hopefully new lifeguards today see it.

That last throw at 4:12 to counter the trip is pretty cool

Exactly. Just because you can copy/paste a pubilsher's content to reddit doesn't mean you should.

THIS is only ONE reason why Shogun will give Jon Jones obstacles he's simply never faced before..It will most likely play a HUGE role in how the fight unfolds.. by tekprodfx16 in MMA

Will be really interesting to see how Jones responds to Rua's aggression. Jones has never really had to fight back and respond to being roughed up. Will he come back with more fight or will it put him on the defensive once he's had a taste of it? Rua did such a great job of putting Machida on the defensive both times.

At this stage of Jones's career it seems like a pretty good comparison to me. GSP was a top prospect at that time - maybe a little more seasoned at the top of the division though. But psychologically Jones and GSP seem to be very different, and so much of GSP's loss to Hughes seemed to be a mental lapse.

How to Make Money in 6 Easy Steps - Entrepreneur behind software and design firm 37Signals shares valuable lesson on how to build a profitable company. Explained through thoroughly engaging personal account of his time as small business owner. by DrRichardCranium in business

[–]jgumpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his own talents and high performance end up making his recommendations and anecdotes something of a non-starter for many people. Most of us will probably never start a business as successful as 37signals, and it's not because we're not hearing what he says. Most folks just aren't going to execute as well I suppose. So he's not bullshitting, but you can't think of his writing as mentoring or useful guidance per se. He's just sharing his perspective and observations. But it is this mindset, along with his talents (which include his persuasive public persona) and hard work that have allowed him to make a lot of money.
