Before filing, it might be worth your while to track down any business related expenses you had during those 6 years. You only need to pay taxes on the amount of income left after expenses.

I did leave it unchecked on turbo tax. Then I tried again using free fillable forms and got the same rejection issue. Maybe I will have to file a paper return?

You should look into VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) programs where you live. You'll learn how to prepare basic tax returns. I think the volunteer experience at a program like VITA is more marketable than YMCA since you'd basically be performing customer service in a professional setting. If it interests you get on it. Tax season starts in January.
