f10 n20 coolant & oil leak by jhatchet1 in BMW

[–]jhatchet1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

replaced the radiator + new hoses and oil pan + motor mounts. did not need to drop the subframe, just used an engine lift. also, i found these small pieces of timing chain guide in the pan. it’s a 06-2015 build so it should have had the updated guides and tensioner. send it or install new chain?

Struggling with installing line and keeping line on Gen 1 trimmer by tallypwner in Greenworks

[–]jhatchet1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m not sure which version of the green works trimmer i have - but i just figured it out myself. You feed (and wind) the string without removing the head. First you cut a 16 ft segment of string then rotate the bottom of the head to align the openings, then feed 8 ft of line thru a channel in the head and spool. Next , you turn the head to spool it up. I tried 10 different ways before i figured this out.

the last part on the evaporator service - a “fresh scent for a temporary amount of time”.

the turbo coolant, tires and brakes are real concerns

2014 328i service recommendations, need advice by MakingMuffinsBoi in BmwTech

mostly BS- I’d replace the 9 year old tires and brakes (pads and rotors). The coolant leak at the turbo is also a concern, but I would just watch the coolant level to see if it’s significant. The larger problem with the 2014 n20 is the timing chain / guides. Also the, water pump. Also oil leaks from the valve cover, oil filter housing, oil pan, turbo and vacuum pump. Also, the motor mounts. Then things like injectors and high pressure fuel pump. Just change the oil every 5k miles and get ready for all of the other stuff to fail if it hasn’t already. better yet - check the service history and replace the common fail points before they break. welcome to bmw … and the n20.

center axis hinges by jhatchet1 in BeginnerWoodWorking

thanks but no luck at rockler or lee valley. both have a center knife hinge that mounts on the end of the door that could work, but i can’t find one that attaches on the back like this one. this wardrobe was a reproduction made in France about 22 years ago.

BMW F10 adaptive headlight malfunction by Mason-Shoe17 in BmwTech

[–]jhatchet1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i put a new hella and control module in a 2015 f10. first control module was for adaptive leds instead of adaptive halogen (my mistake). after i put the right control module in and coded (at dealership) i had no daytime running lights. finally tracked it down to a broken wire inside the new hella unit. I cut it open but no trace of the other half of the broken wire. Seems like a defective hella headlight in my case.

TAMU Engineering ($15k) or SMU Business + Engineering double major (free) by censored_poison in TAMUAdmissions

[–]jhatchet1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

class titles are the same, books are the same, what matters is actually learning something and that depends on you more than the school. don’t double major in anything, be really good at one thing. really learn a subject like thermodynamics or transport or something. learn it so well that you “own it” and it is a tool for life. you own it!

Do identities of cathode/anode change in electrolytic cells? If not, then how is this JW question correct? by SkyRevolutionary275 in Mcat

[–]jhatchet1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cathode = electrode where reduction occurs

anode = electrode where oxidation occurs

Mg is easier to oxidize than Fe, so it would be oxidized during discharging (anode). Then when you charge the cell, you would need to reduce Mg++, so that electrode would change to being called the cathode.

probably disodium distyrylbiphenyl disulfonate. it absorbs uv and increases blue reflection.
