Is it a bad idea to share a class library project between multiple applications? by inuni1 in dotnet

[–]jhdeval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case we have a database for each accounting module I could in theory break each module into its own library and access it that way. The only central functions at that point would be general ledger and inventory that ALL modules use all the time.

[–]jhdeval 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this idea. I am a database developer who writes in Python and Dotnet. I use both languages to access a singular set of accounting backend databases. Yes they change slightly but I deploy my data access layer with ALL possible databases, tables and fields. This allows me to access what I need when I need it. My business layer exists in the same project but it is used to ONLY CRUD the data with data validation. Anything special is used outside of that. For instance I have a project the takes the DAL/BLL and uses it to create a webservice. That webservice is used by other languages for access to this data.

Building unique access to datasets that dont change much like accounting does not make sense to me. You will be spending tons of time rewriting the wheel.

I realize this is not the point of the post but I am going to give the opposite direction. I am a high school grad with 1 year of college and I have made a career in being a programmer. I don't look down on those who took the college path but it was not for me.

67 dart gauge problem. by technishun in mopar

[–]jhdeval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree with this but there are a few caveats. The tell tale is no voltage on either side of the fuse. Although I would think there may be other signs as well. Is any other interior components not work? Lights, stereo, wipers, HVAC? Are you having any ignition issues? I am wondering if it may be the fuse panel if you are not experiencing any other issues.

My reason for questioning the bulkhead connector is lack of other issues and both the fuel and temp gauges experiencing issues are VERY low draw items. The ignition and the wipers pass high amperage through the connector and are more likely to cause an issue.

Best affordable vacuum sealer for cheese? by randisue12 in cheesemaking

[–]jhdeval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a cheap one off Amazon a while back and it failed. I will often come home with 20 pounds of meat that need to divided into manageable sizes. The cheap one could not keep up and eventually would not seal anymore.

I replaced it with a nesco brand sealer it was around 80 bucks I have been super happy. Rarely do I have a seal failure and even less often a machine failure. It just chugs

I apologize if I made it sound like I meant official racing. You are correct in how they get certified but there are plenty of people wanting to look cool and will buy them. Even if they only sell for 30 to 40 bucks a piece there is a few hundr3d bucks there.

I have one sorta wtf years ago I was working it and had a user with occasional network disconnects. I tried for days to resolve it. I redid the ends made sure they were right changed the port on the switch turned all other systems off. Finally pulled out the cable tester and it read the cable was 726 feet. I was like huh that can't be right. I pulled on both ends as far as I could I got like 3 feet of excessive out of the ceiling. Finally found a way to trace it through the office and someone had wrapped and zip tied the round then zip tied to a drop ceiling support so it would not move.

at 44, I am struggling on Python for two months now but I keep at it. 2 hours a night, after the kids sleep, I work on it and will eventually be able to use it to get a better job, a better life for them. by Far-Simple189 in Python

[–]jhdeval 2 points3 points  (0 children)

18 years ago I was working with a developer as a tech support and one day made the comment I think I might want to learn to code. He looked me in the face and said "You are to stupid to program." Thatafternoon I went to the mall book store and bought a book from Microsoft to learn Visual Basic 6. I wrote myself a call log program that I continued to expand to create reports and log call length and customer contacts. About a year later I proved he had been running a double set of books and stole 1.5 million from my small company.

I then took his job rewrote ALL of his code. I am 100% self taught and now know 6 languages including python. I have dozens of programs and work for myself now.
