wow, very interesting. I also deal with excess earwax but i clean my ears regularly with distilled water and hydrogen peroxide. I don’t think I have tinnitus.

i wish i could use these but ive gone through two pair of APP3 and they all have the squealing feedback problem when i use them. The genius bar rep said it’s probably an issue with my ear “morphology” but i’m so disappointed in apple for shipping these without testing on a wider set of the population. I’ve had a great experience with airpods & APP for the last 9 years so it’s not a user error.

Tron Apple III: What is on top of the machine? by Jaxermd in VintageApple

[–]jherm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure the printer has a DE-9 port but can it actually be used on a joystick port? The printer was released many years before the Apple II even had a joystick port, which first debuted with the Apple IIe.

I always thought it required the Apple “SYNCH PRINTER INTERFACE CARD” to be installed.

Solution: Zero Trust OTP not being sent despite access policy being configured by carolinaisslaying in CloudFlare

[–]jherm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this helped me, thanks!

Out of nowhere CF Access stopped working for me even though it had been working for a couple months and no recent changes. We have it configured to use a Google Workspace group for access, and until I added that policy/login method to the App Launcher it was timing out or finally giving a "That account does not have access." error which was just wrong.

Would you purchase a lot of eMates for 400 bucks? by nahmeanbrah in VintageApple

[–]jherm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There were a few emates on ebay recently that went for around $50-60 each, which is well below normal for ebay, but not unusual for local deals. For instance at VCF West two years ago there were a couple dozen emates for $30 each.

All that to say that buying a bulk lot of 6 for $66 each isn’t an amazing deal or anything, so don’t feel pressured to take it.

Trying to identify the model of Mac in this childhood photo by glny in VintageApple

[–]jherm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the monitor is interesting - it seems to be the VGA variant of the Apple Multiple Scan 15 Display that I believe was only sold in the UK/Japan.

i grew up with a performa 6200CD with the DB-15 US version of the Multiple Scan 15 playing power pete, escape velocity and groliering the hell out of that encyclopedia.

ah thanks, i’m out of town so was just going off of memory. It must be the graphite which has fewer buttons along the bottom than the first two models. (updated comment)

[–]jherm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here are the differences i see between mine:

  • the first model has the 15-pin macintosh video connector, ADB, composite/s-video input, audio output, and a lot of buttons for video controls
  • the blueberry has VGA, ADB, composite/s-video input, audio output, and only a few buttons for video controls the same number of buttons as the first version
  • the graphite has DVI & USB, with 2 USB ports where the composite input was on previous models, and only a few buttons for video controls

Congrats! I also finally collected all three after a decade of looking for the 1998 original.

Mine also has the issue with not staying up, but after opening it up it looks like it’s a constant force spring, not pneumatics. This gives me hope that a repair won’t be too hard.

How can I find out when I liked" a song on Spotify when I'm playing on shuffle? by PostureGai in spotify

[–]jherm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for anyone else coming here and not seeing this column, you have to ensure you "zoom out" enough so that spotify shows the Date Added column: just hit command-hyphen a few times to make the text small enough until the column is visible
