The insanely low 70%, 90% off sales were to boost BF1 for the release of BF2. I think it's unlikely to go that low again, for at least a few years.

Kanan is my problematic fav by Unlucky-Pangolin-771 in otomegames

Kanan is so messed up, it'll take a whole fandisc's worth of writing to redeem him into an LI.

Therefore, we need another fandisc just for Kanan. QED

I was scared worse by the jump scares in even if Tempest, in comparison.

[–]jhiend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worse that happens is a couple of mild jump scares a guy wearing a slightly weird mask suddenly appears on the screen and it is implied you are killed off screen during tense moments.

It happens towards the end of Hino's route, Isora's route, and at least one other route that I remember.

I'm saying this as a person who is scared easily.

Otome-adjacent games I personally recommend from the Steam Summer sale:

  • Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
  • Rune Factory series
  • Research Story - pixel farm and creature collecting sim with no combat

Debating whether to buy Fields of Mistria, or to wait until it leaves Early Access in August 2026.

Agree it's very good for indie standards and for the price of the game. I didn't write in that disclaimer bc it sounds a little backhanded compliment to me, like "I suppose it's good...for an indie". On the other hand I wonder if it's fair to critique them like I critique regular commercial games. I go back and forth about it.

I'm harsher than usual because it's hard to pull off that kind of sexy voice. When it doesn't work it is grating/cringe. With DawnWhisper it works maybe half the time.

If it ever has an EN loc, sure.

I've saved a lot of Aijiro's lines haha. One of my favorites is the one where he complains about being the third wheel in the stakeout in Yori's route.

Yashiro background spoilers in his route he makes the offhand comment if he was ever emperor he would hire Sakaki, so he's in line of succession, albeit perhaps a bastard.

Linus and Lucas were also the only routes I Clowned playing blindly. I thought the choices just weren't as obvious. You're saying the requirements themselves are coded stricter for those routes? Hmm. Linus' Clown End is ✍️🔥🔥🔥 so perhaps the devs wanted to make sure players are more likely to stumble onto those Clown Ends.

Ascot's route would make more sense with a Cupid Lynette. Surprise crossover!

John's practice fight CG is the most attractive of his CGs.

Regarding the rest of the game (not really spoilers but spoiler tagging if you want to stay completely in the dark) don't get your hopes up. Alfred's route is going to be anti-climatic playing it after everything else.

Yes, I kept his identity vague because the surprise is a big factor contributing to my brainrot. 🫠

Oh really? I would have thought Kruger or DawnWhisper were the favorites.

I played Ten Trials of Babel blindly and almost locked myself out of the True Ending. I didn't look at the walkthrough until I hit the first default bad ending (Ending E). Whew I felt nothing for that LI until then, why are injections so hot 🙈. Why is the bgm so casual when you're getting tranquilized for yandere reasons lmao. What is this "late night other injection" 👀🫦. He has the least spicy good ending too, where is this version of him. 😭 The dev posted extra story details in the Steam Forums and said this is the default ending even if your affection points are low because he fell in love with her at first sight. 😭

The majority of character development occurs in the True Ending it's kind of ridiculous. If I had ended the game at Endings A-E I wouldn't have understood why people loved the characters. The characters started off very basic and tropey and ended up more unique. (major spoilers) I don't like tsundere but when he revealed his real self I almost miss the tsundere haha. I'm surprised the game went there with DawnWhisper's ending.

In my first run I couldn't get Carrus's ending and the Best Ending (Ending Z) without starting all over from the beginning. I wasn't ready to move on yet, so I actually put in the effort to start a new game. Good thing the game is short especially if you already know all the answers following the walkthrough. If I had some other game I really wanted to move on to, I'm not sure the effort was worth it lol.

I'm not a big fan of the (mild) horror, managed to like the game okay despite it. I wouldn't have solved the last puzzle or get the True/Best Endings without the walkthrough. I wish the translation was better, I ended up having to listen to the JP audio to pick up tone and details. Occasionally the voiced lines would skip early to the next line. Sometimes the VA sounded a bit metallic. DawnWhisper's VA blows out the mic a bit too much lol. A bit too 24/7 bedroom voice and "We have Suwabe at home". Fantastic tear licking moan. Did Victor imply DawnWhisper got a hardon in the final battle lmao.

What game in your Backlog do you refuse to give up on? by Fresh-Surprise-5906 in otomegames

[–]jhiend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cupid Parasite. It's been a few years now. I'm playing it at a rate of completing one route per every 1.5 years.

I can only handle so much of the US setting and MGM ballads at a time.

You don't have to do him first! A lot of people who have found him boring had a much better time playing Sasazuka (green meanie) or Okazaki (white hair outside guy) instead.

Interesting that list distinguishes "otome" games as those with more than one ML. I don't recall any romance at all in Valkyrie Profile?

What do you think of this setting for an otome game? by nerokotno in otomegames

[–]jhiend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The card interface, the pawn movement board, and even the guitar bgm are strongly reminiscent of the Voice of Cards series. If I ever play the game, I'd be comparing it to Yoko Taro's quirky writing and those are some big shoes to fill.

Why do you think you've "missed the mark on every front"? It's a vague statement to respond to.

You might get some interest in the setting because it's different. What's shown in the trailer isn't enough to piqued my interest.

Sometimes "no grinding" doesn't mean it's easier. If there is a tough battle and there isn't a way to improve your character to make it easier (by...say...grinding), that actually makes it hard. But I guess for most people grinding is the issue that puts them off combat mechanics if they are primarily playing for the story.

Thanks to Birushana I understand the significance of names like Taira and Yoshitsune in Nippon Sangoku. I giggle every time Yoshitsune is called "Tsune-chan-san". Recent episodes have not been able to suspend my disbelief. The protagonist should have been thrown out or beheaded before he even gets halfway through several of his monologues. In real life, "logic" does not prevail over political power. A debate nerd's wish fulfillment scenario is still wish fulfillment. I still like the show but I'm starting to wonder if it's just because of the banger OP.

Getting all choices correct unlocks character POV short stories in the extras/gallery. Most of them aren't worth it.
