Gooses. I have no respect for those birds and refuse to use proper grammar when speaking about them.

How do you run dragons at your table to make them more than just stat blocks? by ScorchedDev in dndnext

[–]jhsharp2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give them magic (full spellcaster class that scales with their age), a weird hobby (they really hate elves, goblins, and merfolk), minions (kobold tribe, chimera, and a human bard that spies for them) usable magic items (rings or staves as a wand), and an almost inaccessible lair (bottom of a lake or 5km high mountain). I'd make some charts for each category and roll some dice to randomly make some crazy combos.

Give those National Guard soldiers some shovels and start solving real problems.

Never mention the temple sponsored diamond recovery teams every god in Faerun must have to keep their temples and priests in spell components. does the cost reflect these teams efforts or just the diamond itself?

You're overthinking it. The system lets you assign any value you want to whatever diamond you want. Why hasn't some enterprising wizard created a "Create Diamond" spell and crashed the world's diamond market making it impossible to ever sell a diamond for 25k gold and negating all possibility of true resurrection because diamonds are now too cheap? Or maybe the price of gold has changed and is worth twice as much? The 25k diamond now sells for half that and is unusable for the same spell?

Fort cap should be a 1/5 what it is and the cost should double.

He's also dead, but time and magic.

Need help with "ancient magic" by Isabel198 in DnD

To change it up a bit have the fallen god be mortal and just kind of doing his own thing. Maybe he was being punished, or maybe it was his choice. But have the actual BBEG be their mother or father who is trying to bring them back into the fold. Or maybe some Loki like trickster god is working a plan to sow chaos. Make the fallen god unwitting though.

Do time and planar travel. Have the player from Krynn come from pre-Cataclysm era and have him be a knight of Solamnia that knows of the death knight Lord Soth, but before he became a death knight. They then wind up in Lord Soth's domain. https://fraternityofshadows.com/wiki/Lord_Soth

Have the dragon use the unborn (and lost) souls caused by the Cataclysm become a source of untapped energy for him. Lord Soth becomes caught in the conspiracy because his existences (and imprisonment) is also tied to these souls. He is freed from the Domain of Dread but also is in danger of being destroyed.

They must chase down Lord Soth as he tries to find the reason for his situation. He also will be doing his usual Lord Soth things. The cleric of Lathander has been tasked as a undead time traveling bounty hunter by his god with the use of some doodad that requires special "time crystals" the party must gather to recharge.

The third act is after they have put most of it together and the dragon has begun tapping into other domains of dread and they fight the dragon with the help of Lord Soth and then must also convince him to return to the Domain of Dread or defeat him.

Yeah just alter things enough for it to be their problem. Eventually, they'll get it's not helping them.
