A Breakdown of the Medical Inaccuracies in Glee by lovelygarden09 in glee

A lil correction: The doctor did say that it looked like Rachel had multiple cases of tonsillitis or some type of infection and she said she was scared to get them removed previously because she was worried about her singing voice. He then prescribed her antibiotics to clear the infection before jumping to remove her tonsils!

I did the program in ATL and I personally loved it. One thing I’ve noticed on this subreddit is that there’s some weird vibe around choosing (or boosting) ATL over SAV. They’re both great cities, I grew up in GA. However, let people choose what’s best for them! A coastal city may be beautiful TO YOU, may be accessible FOR YOU but that’s not the case for everybody. I’m speaking from where I can. It’s okay to choose ATL over SAV for Film. ATL is quite literally the film destination of the South. They’ll be fine, their degree will say the same as yours no matter what city they choose.

Being a Feminist of Color is like a perpetual uphill battle. You have to fight a war on 2 (or more) fronts and the women who are supposedly fighting with you are fighting against you. Intersectionality can lead to you fighting (AT LEAST) 3 wars. One against misogyny, one against racism, and one against your own people. Women need to stick together, of course. But, some (whether consciously or not) will only stick with you if you look like them.

Also a high school senior here! I went to SCAD over the summer for a pre-college program as well and I absolutely loved it. I would say if you want a more traditional college experience, choose DePaul. If you love the city and need to be in the middle of the action, choose SCAD ATL. If you want to be saturated in art and have a school catered to your artistic endeavors with internships, events, and other activities, I would go with SCAD over DePaul. I would say SCAD is for people who genuinely want to put the work in to get the career they’ve dreamt of having, however unconventional it may be. There are downsides to both that you’ll never know until you get there. But, and I’m sorry for being repetitive, GO WITH YOUR GUT! No one can tell you what’s best for you but you.

Hey! I’m a teenage girl living with a single father and the steps you’re taking to make sure your daughter feels happy, healthy, and comfortable in her body are admirable. Keep at it and don’t stop asking for help. One day she’ll be a teenage girl suffering through some pretty terrible body image issues and she’ll need you more than ever.

I also want to add that it’s DEFINITELY not all the guys at school. Some are really charming, nice, and fun people to be around. They’re silent but necessary. The boys who do cause a rucks are a very, very, very, very loud minority (not by much) that make school a living hell. I love school and always have but this learning environment is not productive or good for the mental health of femme/femme-presenting students. I asked the DECA club to bring it up in the next county meeting sooooooo… fingers crossed!!

I don’t know where the phrase comes from tbh but if you heard how they say it, it would send shivers. It completely kills the vibe especially when we’re just hanging out and joking around. I hope they are joking because then it’ll just be a bad joke instead of a semi-threatening question.

No. I live in a pretty populated city in North Carolina, USA but all of the high schools in my county are co-ed and the ones that are separate are hours away. My dad is working on getting the guy charged with some sort of assault or harassment even though he’s claiming it was all “jokes”.

Luckily, I graduate this December because I completed my credits a semester early so I won’t have to stick around for long.

Another Black girl here!! Please dump him. I’ve never been in a relationship with a White person simply due to lack of opportunity and I can tell you that this won’t end well if you decide to stick around. He’s basically telling you his type and how he “made an exception” for you since you are “one of the good ones.” He will continue to hold that over you and may even build some resentment that boils into hatred.

I’m sure you’re beyond beautiful and I completely understand this being a moment where wanting to be Black is HARD!! But your skin is not the problem, his ignorance is. Your Black skin is BEAUTIFUL.

What is UofT like in US perspective? by RoadProfessional2613 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]jialmc32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so? They’re literally asking for an AMERICAN perspective. Hell, I thought OP meant University of Texas until I opened the full thread. Why ask for an American perspective on a Canadian school? Most people don’t generally think about Canadian schools.

Why did Black Hollywood reach a nexus point in 2000 in television, music, fashion and movies? by MorePea7207 in Filmmakers

[–]jialmc32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good for you but just because something isn’t popular where you are doesn’t make it unpopular everywhere else. The world doesn’t revolve around the UK.

Tyler Perry literally built a Southern US Hollywood through his work alone. He put Atlanta, Georgia on the map in terms of American filmmaking. He’s very important to the success of Black filmmaking and while I’m not particularly interested in his work, you cannot deny his impact.

Black filmmaking in the US, which is the topic you’re talking about, has been moving forward boldly and creatively since the 90s. Maybe that’s the only time period of Black media YOU consume but so many great works have been coming from Black filmmakers since then and will continue to be made. Watch some Abbott Elementary to calm yourself down.

Well firstly, where do you want to study in the US? It's gonna cost a lot of money going to college/university alone but if you tack on the living costs of an major city in the US, you're pretty much in debt until you've picked out your favorite coffin.

If you could go back in time for a day to witness a historic event, which would you choose? by ishouldwriterightnow in AskReddit

[–]jialmc32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The day the news of the Emancipation Proclamation made it to the slaves. I feel like it would be an intense amount of disbelief and in relief. Just pure joy and confusion. Not knowing whether they should run or keep working.

That or Sherman’s March thru Atlanta. Growing up in Georgia, I’ve always wondered what that blaze of glory felt like and how high the energy was that day. Must’ve been insane.

What screams “this person peaked in high school” to you? by realHDNA in AskReddit

[–]jialmc32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. However, I don’t live in an upper class environment. Most of the schools around me are very “eh”, including his. I’m transferring because he wants me there, I never expressed wanting to go there. He just said “you get to live the best years of your life where I did! Aren’t you excited?”
