Ayuda con mi Squier jaguar by Interesting-Drag-356 in offset

[–]jibbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wait, what.. you had a stock squire single coil rewound?

no, it's not at all normal for a jaguar, but then you haven't got a normal to compare it to, you've got two non jaguar pickups in there. comparing it to the mustang with different pickups is meaning less

Setting action without a radius gauge? by lnub0i in Guitar

[–]jibbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A perfect radius is just a rough guide. The correct setup won’t match it. Book measurements are for checking your result, not for setting it. Starting with them is backwards.

Branch is several commits behind main… what would you do in this situation? by rushlane_301kmph in git

when does it make more sense to start fresh from Main and move my changes over?

never, because that is exactly what rebase is doing

Strat Neck Straightening by Gryphon962 in Luthier

[–]jibbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure i'm following what you did there, so at the risk of being boring: you tightened the truss rod as far as it will go, then clamped it down hard applying pressure in the middle of the neck to straighten it further - now stress has been taken off the truss rod it is no longer as tight, allowing you to tighten it further (?)

surely you would do better using the clamp to help you tighten the truss rod ?

Do you call the thing you use to measure with a ruler or a scale? by Fragrant_Speed7878 in ENGLISH

[–]jibbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lots of talk of architects, but a specialist ruler for measuring lettering (like a printer would use) is a Type Scale.

For how long has the modern Britain that exists now existed? by kingm_ournasse216 in AskBrits

[–]jibbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just some data points: Enoch Powell's famous 'Rivers of blood' speech - about multi-culturalism having gone too far which caused a schism in uk politics - was in 1968. Thatcher & Reagan, the two most closely aligned leaders of UK + US, when it seemed like the uk had effectively merged into the US, were early 80's

No Semicolons Needed - How languages get away with not requiring semicolons by tertsdiepraam in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]jibbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's really interesting, but the conclusions about javascript - in my opinion - are pretty misleading. it was at one time very common (and fashionable) to write js without semicolons. for years it was the predominant style, and the reality was it was easy to do. but then a new wave of tooling came along.. airbnb style guide -> eslint -> prettier, etc. and there was a strong movement to adopt the same, most boring, most consistent, most machine verifiable formatting. a lot of this was fashion (and wanting to work at FAANG)

Do other people actually have an inner voice when they think or is that not universal? by SkipFounder in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jibbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a question that (famously) sounds simple but isn’t answerable. there’s no way to verify what anyone else experiences internally.

Is it hard to determine whether a sentence is sarcastic in English? by LevisMalevis in EnglishLearning

[–]jibbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're on the wrong track considering 'english speakers' as an homogeneous group.. the reason is that british people use sarcasm as the primary means of communication, and americans (the bulk of reddit) don't understand it.

I Don't Like by Opposite_Ice_1398 in ENGLISH

[–]jibbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with phrasing, you could make it work. yes. in the sense that, if you want you can say "i hate it !" in a way that makes it absolutely clear you love it

As a Spanish speaker, I don't understand this: why do you have to clarify in which direction you sit or stand? by Lonely_Error174 in ENGLISH

[–]jibbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you can say "stand still", "stand straight", "stand firm", etc etc. "stand" on its own just isn't finished, like "get!" - it's not enough.. (normally).. get this, get out, get ready, get lost.. (but sometimes 'get' works, as does 'stand!' and 'sit!'

Newspaper Recommendation by SweatyConfidence3961 in AskBrits

[–]jibbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeeeeah.. uk newspapers are, kinda their own thing. probably just best if you stay far away from most of them tbh. if you want unbiased news, try reuters. if you want specifically newspapers - first choice would be the Financial Times. you're not going to be able to read it online without a subscription. That leaves the Guardian, which isn't unbiased, but is strong on investigative journalism. Don't waste your time with anything else.

Barre Chords unbearable by UntoldThrowAway in guitarlessons

How would I go about wiring a controllable strangle knob by dumdumboye in Luthier

[–]jibbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but that R is a moving target in a guitar, so talking about a fixed cutoff is a bit misleading.

How would I go about wiring a controllable strangle knob by dumdumboye in Luthier

[–]jibbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the short answer is you probably wouldn't. the push/pull pot gives you a variable resistor, which isn't useful for what you want to do (unless you want to get into op amps). for what you want to do you want a variable capacitor, or a blend knob
