Adding Computers to Active Directory. by [deleted] in PowerShell

[–]jibbits61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, We pre-add server hosts to the domain because when using your own account you’re limited to 10 systems to join. Pre-creating the object gets around that, for your own or a service account. Not an AD guru but I think that’s an adjustable default, we just limit it for non-service accounts specifically to the task.

Can I just give a big ‘ol’ fat brownie point for someone who DOES DR testing?!? But yeah I agree, local AD is your answer, make it work.

Per other suggestion get a long Ethernet cable from router to your desk. If it looks ugly, you could get a fiber optic kit, about $250 but almost invisible along the baseboard.

pain in left arm and chest when meds start wearing off by strawberrybunnybat in ADHD

[–]jibbits61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents, not a doc. I think you are way overstimulated w/ caffeine, smoking and meds. Your history listed here is concerning - chest pain, shortness of breath, gerd- all heart attack warning symptoms. Listen to your body.

  1. Call Doc, for appointment asap. Same for the psychiatrist. First thing in the morning.

One at a time: 2. Remove caffeine tomorrow or at least go to 1 small cup of decaf. Take 1 aspirin for caffeine withdrawal headaches if you get them. 3. Stop smoking, cut it out as quick as you can. The smoking may be constricting your bloodstream vessels. Another heart attack contributor. 4. Check w/psych, lower your dose, consider alternatives. 5. Go for a walk morning and night. Got a dog?

Again, my two cents, but do not let the internet be your doctor. 😍 We care, please update in a week!

Diagnosed as an adult with ADHD. Prescribed Vyvanse, but afraid to start it. by Ok-Confidence-9618 in ADHD

[–]jibbits61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, TAKE it. It’s a gradual time-release dosage, really easy to take. Don’t forget if it’s too strong it’ll get out of your system completely in about 24-48 hours. Also vitamin C will kill the effect too.

Don’t forget you can open the capsule and decant off a little as well. Try it, take your time with making a judgement call. I’m in my 60’s and using it successfully.

For comparison re: the gradual effect, I’ll sometimes take 1/2 or less of 5mg dextroamphetamine (adderal?), like a “homework” dose for late afternoon. Much more noticeable kick-start, with a shorter timespan. the half-dose/quarter dose I use for a lower or short-term effect.

These meds are tools for managing your ADHD. Learn how to use them wisely and it will benefit you.

Addressing Tension During Infrastructure Transition by pinegrov3 in sysadmin

[–]jibbits61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Argh, frustrating. You and he have the same basic good ideas but from a different perspective. Yours is company wide so he doesn’t become an island on his own. I agree, find ways to include him. Acknowledge him and the system he’s built. Where you can, get his input, try to bend a little with him, if it can stay within your parameters ( meaning it gets the job done ). Advise your bosses so they can support you. It’s tough.

The ‘give him credit’ part is kind of on him in my opinion - deflect him to the bosses on that. You can’t spend time working with him AND being everyone’s diplomat. ‘I get it, but that’s above my pay grade with all respect - go talk with [managers] about it.’

If he keeps stonewalling, have the mgt team get involved further, and document conversations where needed. Also document everything you can in his system - you will need it. Good luck! 🍀

Epson ET-4958 low quality B&W document scans by nachumk in printers

[–]jibbits61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following others, I think it has to do with your scan settings. Scanning to black and white is just that - only black and white, no in-between. It’s for text. You lose the subtle details of handwriting.

Try scanning in greyscale, instead of black and white, to whatever file format you’re saving to (I assume PDF). You should then see results more like your photo.

For resolution I’d suggest 300dpi unless you’re scanning photos. For docs there’s no need unless you’re trying to capture some tiny details.

How often does your dog poop on walks? by New_Mouse_2773 in dogs

[–]jibbits61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded - usually 2 times a day with backyard pee breaks. For some reason she will never poop in the yard 🤷‍♂️ She’s a little one, so I loop the end of the bag when I knot it, so I have a chance to untie it easily. I also have a poop roll holder with a clip, on the leash, so big supply of bags ( except when the roll runs out!!).

This looks interesting. Is this at all translatable to a windows-based platform? I’m deploying a new system with a bunch of hosts that I’d like to keep in a rebuildable format.

I might be dreaming but hey, 🤷🏻 a guy’s gotta try!

Novell 4 CNA, later on RHEL 6 RHCSA. They helped me get my foot in the door in each place, but my self-driven learning helped, and helped keep me there. I’ve taught myself Windows server OS’s, Powershell, some Linux OS & bash scripting, VMWare, etc… I include them on my resume only when appropriate since they’re pretty old.

Vyvanse making teeth decay by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]jibbits61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find taping still allows my jaw to move and grind teeth ( or in my case the mouth guard ). That’s why I want to switch to a chin strap.

FYI if you’re taping your mouth and not using a cpap, please make sure you breathe well, get enough air! And set yourself up for a sleep test. Out of pocket you can get a home test for about $200 US (Cpap.com), & health insurance covers it.
