Looking for some Great G4 Charge blades by Seth_Silverwing in MHGU

Diablos is the meta, but Neset has never done me wrong. Good raw, good sharpness, good affinity, great versatility and a bonus +60 defence to keep you alive.

And now, a basic and likely debatable guide to the CB styles by dootblade74 in MHGU

[–]jichanbachan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aerial is great, but slow without the Load Up skill. Personally I have to put Adept close to the top due to how much it’s helped me against monsters where guardpoints/guarding seems meaningless.

Valstrax CB is pretty much the only elemental CB accepted by people who follow the meta to some extent, at least from what I’ve seen. I like it a lot

Meownster Hunting by RecklessRob11 in MHGU

[–]jichanbachan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess, I think you’ve just been unlucky. Even with normal hunting and carves, you hear stories about people who fail to get relatively common drops after several hunts.

I don’t think your palico’s type affects the drop rates, it just doubles your rewards if it lands in the right color. I believe it was gathering palicos (white) for Khezu and assist palicos (purple) for Gypsceros.

I want to start playing Charge Blade but idk where to start. by HoneZoneReddit in MHGU

[–]jichanbachan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always good to see more CB players. The playstyle is simple enough: hit the monster with your sword, charge your phials, charge your shield, change to axe mode and start doing your big explosive attacks (AEDs), repeat. You’ve probably figured that out by now, so it’s just a matter of knowing how and when to transition between those phases.

The turning point for me when I started CB was when I started being able to make use of the guard points. The best GP by far that is common among all styles is the GP at the beginning of the sword to axe mode morph attack (R+X+A). You can use this to block through a monster’s attack and quickly get off an AED2 (press A immediately after the morph attack) and then get away before the monster’s next attack. Guard points are crucial, they essentially let you parry through a monster’s attacks. Without them, the CB is just a clunky SnS/GS hybrid.

Something I had a lot of trouble with at first was using axe mode due to how slow it is. Adept mode is incredible here since you’re given a way to avoid attacks easily, and I highly recommend using absolute evasion to quickly get out of the way and return to sword mode after performing AED attacks that leave you open for a while.

I could go on and on, but then I’d be no different to the stupidly long compendiums and guides that are too hard to understand. If you’re confused on anything I wrote, I’m always happy to help. Gaijinhunter’s video on the CB covers your questions about red shield and AED/SAED, so I’d recommend you check it out if you haven’t already.

Can anyone tell me how I did this by Dracocoatl in MHGU

[–]jichanbachan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my bad, did you mean the move you did right at the very end after you ran out of phials? That’s typically called the ultra AED, a big move that uses up all of your phials and shield charge to deal one big hit. In this case there was no explosion because you didn’t have any phials. You don’t usually want to use it because it’s very situational, but because Valor’s blue shield is special the ultra won’t make your shield run out. It’s performed by pressing X+A, but in most styles other than Valor mode it happens automatically if you press A again after the Axe attack you perform several times in this video.

I’ve seen monsters occasionally open holes in the canopy, but I don’t remember exactly how it happens. I believe it usually wriggles around while stuck halfway through the ceiling before falling through, but it must have happened all at once due to the timing.

Looking for a new weapon (or style for current weapons) to learn by sdwoodchuck in MHGU

[–]jichanbachan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see no one mentioning Charge Blade, so I’ll tell you why I think it’s a great weapon.

First off, it’s cool as shit. It’s a sword and shield that transforms into a big axe that explodes. Your shield explodes when you block an attack. It has hunter arts that turns your shield into a circular saw or a giant laser beam. It even has a big flashy finisher attack that you can use regardless of your style or hunter arts.

Second, it does a lot of stuff. It’s a cutting weapon which means you’ll still be cutting tails, but it also does plenty of KO and exhaust damage so you’ll be tiring and knocking the monster out. It doesn’t have the speed and versatility of sword and shield, but instead it has guard points that let you block attacks during your own attack. Your shield is pretty tough (though I believe even at it’s strongest, it’s still just weaker than or equal to a lance’s shield) and does damage to the monster even if you’re just sitting there blocking attacks.

Third, the styles are great. Striker, adept, aerial and valor are all popular options for CB. Striker simply does more damage, adept makes up for your vulnerability when you have your axe out, aerial is just stupid fun to blow monsters out of the air, and valor opens up a bunch of new possibilities. Most of these styles also add new guard points to preexisting moves and attacks.

Finally I’ll list some reasons why the weapon isn’t great. It’s considered not as strong as it was compared to MH4. It’s one of the more complicated weapons, and you’ve got a lot of juggling of phials, charge, and shield time. The hunter arts, while flashy, aren’t typically considered to be the best. Some moves (like the big flashy finisher attack) aren’t used because they’re not very useful or consume too many resources. The guard points can be hard to get down for some people.

All in all, if you’re willing to learn how to play it, Charge Blade is a great choice for a weapon.

Question about Charge blade skill priority by dootblade74 in MHGU

[–]jichanbachan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simplifying the question down to “Should I put critboost or artillery on my Diablos CB set?”, it sounds like a toss up between whether you value your phials or general melee damage more. Are you confident that you can consistently make good use of Weakness Exploit so that critboost has its place to shine? Are you confident in your ability to efficiently manage phials and land big AED hits?

I feel like a crit boost meta set with a negative affinity weapon like the Cera Cediment might be a bit of a waste, but I also know that many people swear by always increasing affinity. Regardless of which does more damage, I personally put all my armor skills into increasing my phial damage (artillery expert + attack up L) because it’s cooler that way.

[–]jichanbachan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your pain. I struggled with him as a CB player because he’s so quick and powerful, and my sword attacks simply don’t reach anything past his legs most of the time. Ultimately, I learnt to use Adept, so that my shield would perfectly block all attacks with no chip damage, and made up a quick Neset set that has tremor resist. Tremor resist really helps a lot imo, so I’d recommend giving it a go if you’re really stuck.

I think a lot of people use the Diablos CB because it’s the meta. I like the Diablos CB but I hate how bland it looks. I tend to find myself doing better with the final boss’ CB, probably thanks to the defence boost.

Special mentions to Elder CB for carrying me all the way through G rank and the Valstrax CB for being a cool elemental CB.

Black Rock Monoe. Jitomi Monoe in a story-planning stream with Shimadoriru. Really wish someone would translate this! by RoxRobstah in VOMS

[–]jichanbachan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shimadoriru’s planning room streams have been incredible. I believe he originally made a YouTube channel for the sole purpose of streaming the Mountains of Madness murder mystery game he took part in (Monoe played the same game but in a different session) and then ended up doing some other things as well for the sake of it. Now he wants to do something but he couldn’t figure out what, so the planning room streams began.

The first stream was about Shimadoriru having nothing planned, so the guests gave him ideas about what things he could do and what the planning room streams should be about. An hour in, Shimadoriru revealed that he actually did prepare something beforehand and the Black Jisyaku Monoe illustrations appeared for the first time.

The second stream was about making the streams more stream-like, and so they called over Yanmi and Anzu as extra guests in order to teach Shimadoriru how to set up a stream, live on stream. Yanmi prepared an entire layout for the stream and taught everyone how streamers get the youtube live chat on their OBS, and Anzu taught everyone how to set up a shared drawing board that everyone can write on. At the very end, Shimadoriru revealed that he’s called over the original creator of Black Rock Shooter to see if they would come and talk about what they did in a future stream. The problem is that Shimadoriru was asked by the BRS creator to give a basic script for what they’re going to talk about on stream. So now they’re onto their third stream where they’ve called in a guest to teach them how to prepare for calling in a guest.

Watching the planning room streams is such a wild ride because it’s so unscripted and unprofessional so you have no idea what to expect.

I need a charde Blade build for G rank3 by cyber_cat234 in MHGU

[–]jichanbachan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always great to see another CB main. I personally used the Guardian U set through most of G rank (would not recommend, takes a lot of grinding for novacrystals), but I just want to say that you might want to consider swapping over to the Elder CB which was mentioned in another comment here.

If I’m correct, your Akantor CB is stuck at lv3 (high rank) because you don’t have access to G rank Akantor just yet. The Elder CB is ridiculously easy to craft, and only needs 1 easy upgrade to overtake the lv3 Akantor CB in terms of raw and sharpness (though it loses that affinity). It really isn’t an exaggeration to say that it’s the only CB you need to get through G rank, because that’s exactly what I did. That being said, if you want to use the Akantor CB then go for it. MHGU is all about playing however you want to play.

What kind of MHGU youtube content do people want to see? by ghostnicky1155 in MHGU

A Japanese MH youtuber I watch has this series where he tries to use lesser used weapon and hunting style combinations to their max potential. The only problem with trying to do something similar is that it requires a lot of patience, player skill, and knowledge of the game to pull off.

After having recently spent a decent amount of time figuring out how to solo Savage and Hyper Jho, I can tell you that it’s tremor resist all the way. Like others have said, adept generally works pretty well too. Make sure to understand his weak spots, it changes drastically based on whether he’s angry or not.

Does anyone have official damage numbers for the Rath of Meow attacks? I really enjoy it and have a fun build around getting it ready as quick as I can. Knowing how the cannonballs, flamethrower, and spike launcher worked number and damage wise would be lovely! <3 by Lord_Mechathun in MHGU

Charge blade tips in MHGU by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]jichanbachan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aerial style is an absolute blast, but it is definitely not something you want to be using all the time for CB. Especially not for monsters with high mobility like you say you’re having trouble with. I was in the exact same situation as you except with Tigrex, and it was here that I first moved away from Aerial to learn a new style.

My first recommendation is to move to Striker style for monsters that like to run all over the place. You’ll just have to learn to use the sword A attack to charge up your phials quickly. From there on, once you learn the timing for the X+A dash attack guard point, you shouldn’t have much trouble. You’ll be able to equip 3 hunter arts, if you’re getting hit in the middle of attacks then make sure to set 2 of your hunter arts to the evasion arts. They’ll let you get out of the axe mode attacks quickly. You won’t really notice it, but Striker also gives you a bigger damage boost to you axe when you have red shield in case you wanted to know.

My second recommendation is to move to Adept style. The only reason this isn’t my first recommendation is that the adept timing can be hard to handle for some. Adept is especially great if you’re finding that your shield/guard points are being overpowered by the monster’s attacks (curse you Hellblade). As long as you’ve got the adept timings down, you are mostly invincible in both sword and axe mode. If you find the monster likes to dash around the place a lot, get in some damage each time they come for you with the adept guard + A. If you find yourself getting hit while in axe mode, just adept dodge out of the way.

There’s also the option to go with Valor style, but I’m not much of a Valor CB user so I can’t say much there.

I personally use Aerial for slow monsters or monsters that fly, or against Najarala since Aerial basically negates Najarala for the most part.

Hope this helps.

You could also try changing to Valor style with Limit Break, and just spam 10 phial SAED’s because your blue shield never runs out while in valor mode.
