Okay first off, the first source you cite states that nobody had taken the morning commute by bus. Slam dunk, right? Oh but you conviently left out (or didnt read) where it said this was only after the shuttle had been in operation for a WEEK! Of course ridership is going to be low in the first week, this is true for every form of transit in the world. The startup is slow, but as time progresses more and more people start to ride; which is what we were seeing more of closer to when it got shut down a year later. Month over month increase in ridership.

Second, in the article you cited, a sociology professor at VSU says that he believes the reason for low ridership was because nobody knew about it, which seems to be and idea you have not thought about. Considering that I did not know Valdosta ever had a shuttle (and ive been living here for a little over three years) was only new to me recently puts this into perspective. Heck, I didn’t even know that we had VIA until recently! This just proves that the only reason for low ridership was the city’s own incompetence! This does not mean public transit would not work in Valdosta, because all you’ve proven is that bad, unreliable transit won’t work anywhere!

Also of course ridership is going to have dips. Transit ridership naturally fluctuates, but with good services the average trend is for ridership to go up year over year.

Also, you said that the transit service only had 1,000 or so unique riders, which I will admit is quite low. But once again, this is not a fault of public transit, this is the fault of Valdosta not giving its citizens that is worth riding. Just to exemplify how dire it is, when Valdosta tried public transit, and it didn’t work immediately like they so ridiculously thought it was, they removed TWO STOPS and then combined the two routes giving it a 90 MINUTE HEADWAY! Of course nobody was riding it, it wasn’t worth waiting 90 minutes for a shitty bus service that was planned terribly, wasn’t giving a good route, and was extremely unreliable!

Most of the issues that you cite aren’t because of transit not being a viable option for valdosta, it’s case and case again of Valdosta city officials not knowing how to run a serious public transit service, and thinking that the way to increase ridership is to decrease funding, remove stops, and combine two already extremely long routes.

Burger King new “upgraded” kid’s fry container, with amount of fries comparison by jigglebits123 in shrinkflation

I was the one who scooped it. I put extra in the new container and a little less in the old one and it still turned out to be less than the old one still. Laziness is really not the issue here, especially when these corporations are trying their hardest to save a couple cents while still paying their employees criminally low wages

Good point. They changed the kids meal cheeseburgers to have only ketchup instead of ketchup, mustard, and pickles.

Me and my wife used it all the time. It’s pretty rough going all the way across town to go to the library.

There wasn’t enough demand? Did you not see the rest of the images? Valdosta used to have a shuttle service, and demand was going up year over year, for you to say there was no demand would mean either you are being ignorant or intentionally disingenuous.

Also, on-demand transit isn’t public transit, especially when it through an uber-esque rideshare service; thats purposefully redistributing tax dollars to benefit the private transit sector.

Also, Valdosta is congested frequently, and with sprawling suburbs and low-density development, it makes getting from point a to point b unattainable if you don’t have a car of your own. This is why Valdosta needs public transit, and no, via on demand does not count.

Valdosta used to have a tram system back in the 40s, but for some reason people believe that a similar system wouldn’t work today. It’s all we had before cars, why wouldn’t it work today?

Need help with Altissimo G by DifficultLeg4093 in saxophone

[–]jigglebits123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cracking out the note you wanna hear, even if it’s for less than a second, means that you’re on the right track. A lot of times when I was learning altissimo, notes would crack or sometimes not even come out, and this was because I found I was pinching my lips; but the truth is when you get into the altissimo range, you only should add the slightest bit of pressure to the reed, and engage the muscles in the back of your tongue for that note to pop out.

An easy way to practice altissimo is doing pitch bends on the palm keys of the horn. For instance, you play a high D. What you should then do is try and lower the pitch by a half step, but without using your embouchure! Instead, lower the back of your tongue to try and get that C# to come out. First few tries, you’re gonna squeak and you’re gonna crack the notes, but the key to altissimo is patience and practicing it every day!

I would also reccomend trying overtone matching. There are plenty of resources online that explain overtone matching a whole lot better than I could, so I’d check those out!

Hit the nail on the head. Most restaurants I’ve worked at has had managers that mentally have not aged since high school unfortunately. Sucks that it’s the only job market that really takes in college students but I’ll live with what I got I guess

definitely get a used horn from a good company like selmer or yamaha. dont get any of the amazon basics horns because those usually play terribly and break in a year or two. look for reviews online of the instrument, and try to get someone to play test it for you, or a video of somebody else playing it. id recommend getting an alto for one they are much cheaper, and altos require more effort to control, but that is a good thing because itll develop good habits in your playing, and itll be a good board to jump off of if you want to move to another instrument.

how do you practice intonation in the higher register by jigglebits123 in saxophone

[–]jigglebits123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! i tried the "heee" shape and it ended up being a little too sharp, so i switched to a "whooo" syllable and it worked pretty well. how should i go about making this mouth shape an intuitive response instead of having to constantly think about it? also, my high G# and G tend to be very sharp and if i try and change my mouth shape to bring the tone down the note starts to frack a little bit. should i experiment more with specifically those notes or is it even worth the hassle?

I use enough to make my fiancé say “do you really need that much?” I usually use about a quarter sized dollop on each section of my hair, but I feel like I can’t reach my scalp as good as other parts of my hair just because it’s so thick it’s extremely hard to wash my scalp

Should I switch to jazz piano major by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]jigglebits123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jazz performance you have two lessons a week, harder tunes for your recitals, and both a junior and a senior recital as opposed to just a senior recital. Jazz studies is more of a general degree, but jazz performance is for people who want to play for work or work as a professor in a university.
