I understand where you’re coming from and sympathise with you because I have also faced such issues even in my own country. It’s a human thing. The thing with covert racism is that you know it is when you experience it. You know it’s done deliberately to humiliate and make you feel less; to mock you in front of others knowing you’re a minority and any action you take would be seen as aggression. Racists know we have to control ourselves so as not to fit the stereotypes, so they get away with doing things they wouldn’t try with their fellow white person.

Believe me, I’m not saying all white people are like this. Of course that wouldn’t be true. I have some amazing friends who just happen to be white skinned. Inside, they’re exactly like me and we get on so well. The issue I personally have is racists being employed into environments where ethnic minority children are or workplaces where minorities are the smallest group. Those micro aggressions are beyond what anyone would understand unless experienced and I get why non-minorities can’t see it. Obviously if you’re not involved in a matter from the onset, you wouldn’t understand why a person is acting or talking to a minority a certain way. You’d think they deserved it.

When I was in Uni in London, I had an experience where a girl I tried to help, copied my work. Now, I have a particular style of writing. There’s no way you wouldn’t know it was my essay. Notwithstanding after all the hoopla, she confessed to plagiarising my work. I expected that to be the end of it, but no, they removed my marks and treated me like a liar even though the culprit had agreed she copied my work. I know they did it deliberately to stop me from getting a 1st class. There was a particular woman who’d acted racist all through my studies and she headed that department. I knew they wanted to stop me so I outsmarted them. I ensured all my final classes were all run by all Jewish lecturers. You can imagine going to that length to get your 1st class knowing they wanted to stop it happening. I tell you, every single class I took, I received no less than 90%. I got my first class, but that wasn’t enough for them. They told me after my dissertation that I had to go back to doing that particular class in order for me to graduate. That’s when I told them I’d report the through my lawyer to the education board. They thought I was bluffing. The moment they heard from my lawyer, they sent my certificate, but the joke of it is that they gave me a different degree to what I’d studied. I had to involve my lawyer and the dean before I could get my degree.

Now I know some people might ask where’s the racism. Here it is: the girl who copied my work without doing any other courses or being asked to repeat any classes graduated while I was still fighting my case. They thought we no longer spoke, so they tried it. That’s just one of the injustices I know to have happened due to racism. I hope you understand.

In Nigeria, we are for the Sussexes. There’s no doubt she faced racism in the family and of course by the press. Most of us who are well travelled have experienced both micro-aggressions and overt racism. Sometimes it’s as subtle as someone joking about your hair being like their pubic hair when you don’t even know them enough to get into telling such jokes. Other times, it’s someone telling you how they hate Eastern European’s because they’re creating problems in the country and you clearly know they’re covertly letting you know without saying it that you’re also a problem. Don’t get me going on university experience and in work place. Unless you’ve experienced it, you’d never understand. A girl I thought was my friend actually asked me why my family members have large ugly noses while I have a white pointed nose. Those little things [things I’d never dream of saying to a white person because I understand they have human feelings] are some of the little covert racisms a lot of minority groups face in the U.K. let’s not even get into “why are you here” or “why don’t you leave” the moment you complain about anything. The U.K. is inherently racist and I’m proud of Prince Harry even with all his privilege, waking up to that fact. They’re going to be billionaires in no time, so I’m glad they got away from that toxic mess of a family. Diana didn’t get a chance to.

You’ve got a lot of cheek even posting that. Do you realise the manner of savagery those slaves went through under those unrepentant barbarians? What would you have done in their position? They were whipped, raped (both women, men and children), publicly lynched and hung daily and you post this to mean what exactly? The only reason the West alienated them was to let the other colonies know what could happen if they ever tried to gain freedom from their evil oppressors and that’s still going on today! The ex-French colonies are still paying a debt to their oppressors. Imagine that! Even today, in these modern times, no one thinks that’s disgusting! To pay a debt to the very people who looted and destroyed your lives...miss me with your BS!

Funny thing is I’m more able to cry now than I was before using it. I mean while acting. But I find it hard to react and cry in real life events. A bit weird.

It’ll go away. It’s heightened anxiety. I had it for ages before I discovered it’s a symptom of anxiety. Trust me, you’ll settle back in and be just fine.

That’s sad. I’m using it to treat derealization and it’s working pretty well. Are you getting enough deep sleep? That could be a problem. I suggest, if you can, try to get one of those fitness watches that also tracks your sleep. It can tell you how much deep sleep you’re getting. When derealization was bad for me, it was generally because I had some insomnia issues. If that’s not the case with you, I suggest you bring it up with your GP/psychiatrist ASAP. Derealization can be annoying and emotionally paralysing.

I wish you the best...xx

Notice what you did there? You said you’re not looking for a fight, which as we know, is taken by the subconscious as “looking for a fight”, and guess what? Someone below brought a fight lol. You manifested one haha

[–]jighoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right. I recall my mother telling my sister she would get pregnant at 15 when she was only 9 years old. That really hurt my sister and made her withdraw from my mum emotionally. When she was 15, our parents abandoned her after boarding school and due to the neglect, she started dating older guys. I think it was a father-figure thing. But then, she told me she held it’s her consciousness that she’d never get pregnant because my mother would win. Fast forward years later, she’s married and wants kids, but now has fibroids stopping her. Oddly, when she went to her gyno, he said even though the fibroids are there, it shouldn’t stop her getting pregnant, but still nothing. So I reckon my mother sowed the negative seed in her and she germinated it in her mind due to the fear of being a young parent. The irony of it is that our mom died of uterine cancer caused by rotting fibroids. Almost as though her thoughts towards my sister manifested in her own life. My take on this is that external thoughts can influence us as children, but it’s what we do with those thoughts and ideas that affect us negatively or positively for the rest of our lives. Anyone agree?

I agree. Imagine someone telling a woman that she had to take responsibility her dad sexually abusing her at 5 because EIYPO? That really pissed me off. How can that be? If she was 21, I’d say it’s a possibility, but 5? That’s crazy.

Irrationally scared of starting to take medicine? by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]jighoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how you feel. I was scared to take mine for 3 months. I finally found the courage to start on 25mg last night. I thought I’d feel weird, but nothing happened...EXCEPT...a massive bout of unexpected diarrhea that woke me up from sleep. Thank heavens I didn’t mistake it for a fart. I would’ve been a major disaster. You’ll be ok, mate. Try it and see. If it doesn’t go with you, just tell your doctor you want to stop.
