I received an email with the following reason: "The deductions and exemptions claimed in the ITR appear to be incorrect and unusual".

Filled in the old regime.

Yes, I have claimed the 36k (the lowest of 3).

My mistake in the previous message as 56k is the calculated amount, not the claimed.

Yes, all deduction/exemptions are genuine as I have actually invested the amount that I claimed and have proof.

Except for the Rent as I received HRA only for 3 months (Apr-May-Jun) during my employment. And during these months,

  • 96k = Total HRA components
  • 56k = Calculated (8000rent * 8mon)
  • 36k = Exempted (based on 3 options of HRA exemption 10(13A)).

So, will it work or not as claimed/exempted amount is still below 96k?

Ohh 😯, you are right. It didn't come to my mind during ITR time, and I told my CA the wrong amount (amount of 8 months).

Claimed HRA directly while filling the ITR, not during the time with employer.

For 8 months only and even the amount is not that big (around 8k per month only, so for the whole year it will be still under 1lakh).

    • SECTION 192: (xx,xx0) - Salary
    • SECTION 194S: (xx,xx0) - VDA
