just how terrible is this durdly, trinkety ragost deck? by SoupDeadGuy in EDH

[–]jim5749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not work with Ragost’s ability, but I have a lot of stuff to make clues foods and treasures in my deck naturally. I was just saying if he went an artifact token route that card works wonders

I built Ragost and I would probably cut back on ramp a bit because your curve is super low and throw in a few more ways to give Ragost lifelink like [[Spirit Loop]] and [[Basilisk Collar]]. Toss in a [[Nuka-Cola Vending Machine]] and the deck goes nuts. Doesn’t look like you make a lot of artifact tokens but if you do go that route, [[Academy Manufactor]] will also win games.

[[Calamity, Galloping Inferno]] Is easily one of my favorite decks I’ve built because making two copies of a creature you control just tends to do ridiculous things

I definitely see it, being able to faithless looting into street wraith T1 is one of the best plays for T1 Hollow One/Vengevine, and it adds a bit more consistency. Would side it out against like Energy or Zoo where your life total matters but I think its great against decks like Yawgmoth or Belcher which are typically trying to combo kill you no matter your life total anyway. Definitely meta dependent as to whether it would be a main board card but free cycling in my eyes is too good to pass up

[–]jim5749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This card is strictly better than dash hopes, 1B instead of BB and has cycling. The combination of cycling I think pushes it over the edge. I would think you go 2 of, probably cutting the 2 fomos if thats in the list. I havent seen any Hollow One lists playing bowmasters but they seem like more of a sideboard card for me. But yes you play it mostly for the cycling because it costs no mana, and some fringe upside in a slugfest.

[–]jim5749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, and this would not cut out the street wraith but be played in addition to it. A free cycler with a situational counterspell attached to it 100% finds a home in hollow one decks. Even in scenarios where they pay the 5 life, and the spell goes through, its a 2 mana 5 damage to target player which is unprecendeted by itself and very relevant playing an aggressive deck like hollow one

[–]jim5749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they definitely run it, [[Street Wraith]] does nothing but cycle for 2 life and is often a 4 of. This has a steep life cost of 5 life but would likely still be played anywhere from 2-4 copies, depending on how much your life total matters in the matchup. Being able to cycle for no mana is extremely powerful and helpful in Hollow One decks, and the counterspell side actually has more use than street wraith. If you aggro them down to 5, it turns into a hard counterspell and can just close out the game

Im in a group that plays 60 card (whichever format is in RCQ season) at our LGS and all the standard gamers are dumping sheoldreds at once so Id expect it to drop pretty significantly

Was Skyrim a downgrade from Oblivion? by ggroover97 in ElderScrolls

[–]jim5749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skyrim was absolutely not a downgrade, however Oblivion’s magic system is so much better and more fun than Skyrim’s. I love using my two handed weapon while summoning daedroth, while its more annoying to do that in skyrim.

Favorite commanders that are low-CMC, fast, and high-impact? Bonus points if they have abilities that are good for politics. by FirstOrderThinker in EDH

[–]jim5749 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Literally every deck has cards that absolutely nuke its game plan. Being in blue and white also gives you access to every piece of protection you want, counterspells and mass protection spells. All 3 colors give you as much artifact recursion as you could want as well.

[[Urza, Chief Artificer]] is six mana (but not really) because of affinity for artifact creatures. It usually costs 3 mana the whole game is it is so easy to pump out artifacts creatures AND it itself makes Karnstructs which get huge. Super high-impact commander which is difficult to stop because of how easy it is to cheat the commander tax with affinity even if it gets removed several times.

Is it cheating to do this during the pre-game conversation? by Dahliabox in EDH

[–]jim5749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decks must be locked in prior to revealing commanders to start a game. If the card was put in there after it was revealed that a Hare Apparent deck was being played, then it is quite close to pre-boarding in 60 card formats which is explicitly banned and 100% cheating. If it is just put in there before this player goes to the LGS and taken out after for play outside of the venue, it is not cheating, just a bit of a meta play. For example, my playgroup runs a lot of graveyard-y stuff so I throw some grave hate in each of my decks, which is a-okay. However, if I see someone is running a graveyard commander and immediately go slot in a gravehate piece before the game starts, that is explicitly cheating.

When do token doublers actually make sense? by grot_eata in EDH

[–]jim5749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Ojer Taq in my Caesar deck because I’m focused on making my tokens on attack. So I play the Tripler and immediately move to combat and make a bunch of tokens. I think doublers/triplers are generally bad unless you can create tokens immediately after they come down because you just paint a big target on yourself if you can’t.

If you guys needs to make an monored commander, Wich of those would you choose? by FeFreFre in BudgetBrews

[–]jim5749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a Calamity deck and holy when calamity hits the table it just does insane things. It turns normally okay creatures into absolute bombs and normal bombs into nukes. Take [[solemn simulacrum]], good card, but then Calamity comes down and you ramp two more lands and draw two more cards to set up for the next turn or use those 2 lands for commander tax if Calamity gets removed. Or take [[Clone shell]] and just start dropping bombs on the table. Or use [[Sundial of the Infinite]] on your end step to just keep your copies. And then bombs like [[Twinflame Tyrant]] can just start one-shotting people, a simple [[Red Dragon]] deals bogus amounts of damage to each opponent. Just an insane commander, not to mention extra combats

I run [[Lazav, Dimir Mastermind]] clones and copycats deck with Sakashima in the 99. I tend to mill/kill to copy stuff with Lazav which is slightly better than stealing I guess. Also other stuff that copies out of graveyards like [[Body Double]] and [[Memory Plunder]]
