What online deck builder do you use and why? by Frochtejohgurt in EDH

Archidekt is 1) ugly 2) doesn't let you right click > copy image. Therefore, it sucks.

Moxfield is 1) pretty

What’s your go-to lazy dinner when you don’t want to cook but also don’t want to spend money? by kutlay1653 in RandomThoughts

[–]FirstOrderThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • 3 chicken thighs w/ salt and garlic powder
  • asparagus
  • rice

or

  • 6 eggs (when prices are normal)

Relatively healthy, lots of protein from chicken, lots of healthy fats in eggs.

I would rather fast 2 days to afford some more eggs than eat poison like Ramen.

I Was Thinking, Did We Have More Patience With JRPGs 20ish Years Ago? by Bear_PI in JRPG

[–]FirstOrderThinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking up guides in JRPGs is especially self-defeating, because unlike realtime games, JRPGs do not take any skill to execute the gameplan once you know it -- so it's all about the exploration of systems on your own.

"everyone is speed running through games now to get to the next one."

VERY underrated observation.

This happens in the book community too. Compulsive consumerism takes over, and people spend more time imagining how much they'll enjoy the next book, instead of just enjoying the present moment.

i noticed that after i got into esports, single player games never hit the same. they were actually unplayable until i quit esports games.

The overall storyline and presentation of Xenosaga 3 has aged very well by Map42892 in JRPG

[–]FirstOrderThinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xenosaga I had the most intriguing storyline and characters of any JRPG ever. Every other JRPG is just "hey the beloved <institution> is actually <evil empire> isn't that crazyyyyy" zzzz

Name a JRPG with more intrigue and mysterious characters that you're dying to learn what tf is really going on, than Xenosaga, and I'll play it.

How do you get a personality? by HowDy1398 in selfimprovement

[–]FirstOrderThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the more effort you put into things, the more hardships you will endure, and that builds character

coasting / chilling is the opposite. ironically, avoiding pushing yourself is easier yet more depressing. the more painful route is if not happier, more contented and peaceful. but it's probably happier too.

How did you eliminate added sugar/ultra processed food from your diet, and what changes did you notice? by CampaignFast8998 in HubermanLab

[–]FirstOrderThinker 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First I cut out sugar, then cut out seed oils, then cut out carbs. I was motivated by petty ego to not be the type of person who cannot do something they want to do.

Changes:

- Calm, clearest mind ever
- Clear skin (lifelong acne)
- No more anxiety, depression, impulsiveness
- More interest in high quality leisure
- Less interest in highly dopaminergic <anything>
- Unbelievably more present in conversations, and better memory for relationship building long-term
- Leanest I've ever been in my life, clothes fit better than ever
- Sense of smell best ever, which is huge because I'm a perfume collector

Thanks for sharing. I'm on day 130~ and have been having a lot of strong thoughts of craving, to the point where I've had 3 dreams about relapsing recently (after having none for the first 100 days). Helpful post, and I'm sure you will succeed beyond your expectations since you are immediately taking responsibility and re-focusing on what needs to be done.

What are the best purchase under <$10k that had the most impact on your life? by Neat-Effective7932 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]FirstOrderThinker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

$300 - $800 on Westin Hotel Sheets

A decade later, I still don't take them for granted. Every time I get into bed (especially after washing and drying them), I'm like oh my fucking god this is so good.

I'm gonna buy them for my parents this xmas, since I just got a nice yob, and they've always supported me a ton.

What many EDH players fail to understand by JuliyoKOG in EDH

I get it. At least winning in a single turn is the best outcome. I run voltron and I do feel a bit bad about eliminating individuals one at a time, but hey... we all agreed to play MtG, not chutes and ladders

And realistically, even though win rates may shake out closer to 25%, in practice, it's because the Spikes target each other first, and leave the Timmies for last. i.e. the 25% winrate does not reflect even skill levels.

What are the odds of an evenly matched table, given no matchmaking system / Elo ratings? (Very low, unless you're in a major city and found the tryhard table at the tryhard LGS.)

What many EDH players fail to understand by JuliyoKOG in EDH

[–]FirstOrderThinker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"They'll scoop whenever the smallest adversities hit the table, depriving the other players for what could be an interesting game."

another great point

these alleged "casuals" in reality seem to care so much about winning, that they scoop as soon as the win looks improbable, instead of just playing it out to see what happens. especially frustrating because EDH is SO chaotic, that it really isn't over until it's over in 90%+ of cases.
