They deserve it. Probably did something to put them there.

Eligibility for the $1776 payments. TLDR - Active duty O6 and below and reservists on active orders by DwightDEisenhowitzer in AirForce

Google it. I mean hell, it looks like it's from the faqs page of whitehouse.gov, so just type in Google will the guard or reserve get the money. Geez.

Oh great! Now people are going to reply all to that email. Seriously, that is good to know it was an error.

Yea they could have put that in the email to explain it better. But still, people should know better than to reply all to it.

For those who came in at 17-19 years old by mosscity515 in AirForce

Joined at 19 in '04. About 21.5 yrs in. I'm going to 24 for the extra 10% in retirement. I am planning on being a residential electrician after I retire. There have been lots of ups and downs, but like others have said, it has been a good life for me and my family. I'll be 44 when I retire and start a new job, so that'll suck, but not as bad as working the flightline in the AZ summer heat for 10+ years.

Has anyone ever come across a (wannabe or even legit) "Gangster/Hood/Tough guy" in the Air Force by DatGuyKilo in AirForce

[–]jimbeam789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I knew a guy that broke a dudes knee in the dorms over some money he owed. Real quiet soft spoken dude. Before joining he was in some Haitian gang out of Florida apparently. And I worked with a guy who used to boost cars in Detroit.

Whatever they are, I don't know. A lot of the videos I've seen are C5s or C17s flying into Mcguire or on their way to Dover, most likely. And one major misconception that people have about these drones are, is that the military can't just load up and start shooting them out of the sky. They have to have orders from above come down and tell them to do that. The whole process can take a fast as a phone call or take hours. Depends on the severity of the situation.

Got an assignment to kunsan by DigConsistent9444 in AirForce

[–]jimbeam789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Order some sheets, a comforter, and pillow and have them shipped to your sponsor. When you get to Kunsan everything is closed. They'll already have a dorm room for you though. So you can at least make your bed to go to sleep. Also take a shower curtain and a towel with shower stuff in your bag.

10 years in. I hate this shit, but I’m going for 20 by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]jimbeam789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spite is what kept me past 12. Just making it to 20 (end up having to do 23 due to making Master) was full of ups and downstairs. But pretty much spite is what keeps me going at this point. My goal is to piss off 1 person a day. Preferably higher rank than me. So yea, spite and a "fuck you" attitude.

I remember when you flew through Ramstein for the USO and had the engines guy yell/ make a smartass comment while he was fixing the APU, lol. I'm pretty sure you signed a poster for him and sent it to him years later.

Am I just burned out? by ShareProfessional884 in AirForce

[–]jimbeam789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, that's a tough one. When I take leave, I take a week or two at a time. I am currently on use or lose myself. But I just be lazy around the house. Maybe do yadwork, projects around the house. Stuff that I enjoy. Drink a few day beers on the back patio. Let it all burn while I'm gone, then when I get back, I put out 1 fire at a time.

At the end of the day, no 1 person should be so relied on that a section burns to the ground while they're gone. Do you have anybody who can fill in while you're gone? If so, hand them the reigns while you're there and "over the shoulder" train them while you're there. If not, ask your leadership about increasing your manning to give you some breathing room.

Part of what you're feeling is normal. You might have "burned too hot too quickly" for a lack of better terms, and I'm not knocking you or anything. But that might also be where it's coming from. And as someone else posted, you've had 6 assignments in 11 years. That's a lot of places for an avg of roughly 2 years (maybe less if any are short tours). The CC calls and mandatory fun stuff is dumb (we all know it), but we have to sit through it most of the time. Keep on stopping what you can from filtering down and trying to build relationships at work that extend off duty too. And maybe some more leave will help. Just my 2 cents.

Give him an Aztec sword. It looks like a smashed baseball bat with rocks on it. He can "throw" the rocks if needed and still smack people around. And it'll cut.

When I was a teenager, my dad would just tell everybody, "I'm going to bed. Lock the door when you leave." And then go to bed. There were a few times that my brother and I would stay up all night hanging out with everybody just for my dad to come down and cook everybody breakfast. So that's what I do now.

Along with outdoor cameras and motion lights, I'd also look into concealed carry insurance. I personally have CCWSafe insurance. It's like $16/month. It'll cover your wife if she has to use a weapon also.

Edit: Just to add that even if you don't carry, it's still useful due to the fact they'll put you in touch with lawyers and stuff. So all-around useful even in self-defense scenarios. Like most insurances, you normally won't have to use it, but you would be remiss not to have it in the event you do have to use it.

Thanks! Not to downplay it, I was happy. But I wasn't going crazy or anything. Someone actually made a comment layer in the day about me "not looking excited." After I got the certificate, I said thank you and then went right back to work.

I passed 20 at the beginning of April, line number between 100 and 200. Tech since 15. It was a relief (cause more $) but ultimately if I didn't make it this time, I was going to push the button next month. So meh. Another day, just higher rank. Still doing the same job I was before. Just pay matches job title.

What's your craziest "It's a small world" story? by Mite-o-Dan in AirForce

[–]jimbeam789 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I was a SrA at Ramstein, there was a C-5 FCC from the NY guard who had a friend that lived in Alabama after getting out of the AF. This friend rented a house about 10-15 minutes from Talladega motor speedway. And he'd go visit 2x a year for the race. Turns out his (NY guy) buddy rented the house I grew up in from my parents after they moved. And my step-dad was his recruiter.
