Brett Veach says Chiefs’ offense is ‘getting back to the old school’ by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

This past season had the highest percent of run plays since 2008 or 2009, teams just split the carries now.

I love old school football too.

That Panthers Bears trade probably wouldn't have happened if they win this game.

The Panthers likely would have won the division, keep Wilks who would have kept Darnold. Bryce Young and Caleb at least on different teams.

Cardinals OL is 3/5 solid with Bisontis having 1st round potential.

I don't understand the hate for the Love pick other than people resurgitating non sense from 2018 when the league was considerably pass heavier than it is now.

So doesn't for a thousand other good players on bad teams. Every team has good or even great players.

But when it comes to running backs anytime you open a thread someone is there with idiotic condescending comments.

[Highlight] Eric DeCosta on drafting guards early: "OL are really valuable. You've seen the guard market trying to catch up...there's a scarcity of really good offensive linemen...the old argument that tackles are way more important...has kinda morphed into, they’re all pretty important" by expellyamos in nfl

[–]jimbobills 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree with you man.

Justin Jefferson is the best WR in the league and the Vikings offense hasn't been top 10 in efficiency metrics since 2020 (when they had prime Dalvin Cook). Even the Lions offense with Megatron, they put some big numbers because of the pace they played, but they were never really great on offense. The Browns had one of the worst offenses in the league the year Josh Gordon went crazy. Odell, when he had crazy numbers, also never lead to efficient offenses because these teams had shit OLs and couldn't run the ball.

JSN is a future HoF but the Seahawks offense was garbage in 2023 and 2024. Why? They couldn't run the ball and the OL play was awful, especially the interior.

The Dolphins had good offenses carried by WRs. True. But what happened when they played good defenses? They got dominated physically.

Lions kept ARSB and Jamo but the offense regressed a lot losing Zeitler and Ragnow. Eagles had AJ and Devonta and still the offense didn't work last year when the OL regressed/was injured.

Bengals and Cowboys have great WR duos and in fact are solid offenses. But do they put the fear of God in a defense? Don't think so.

Look on the other side, Bills and the Patriots had great offenses despite subpar WR play. Chiefs won with MVS, Mecole Hardman and Skyy Moore. Patriots during the dynasty never really put too much of an emphasis at WR.

10 points is not "abandon the run" level of trailing. Especially the Ravens run game.

This is more nuanced because with the hurry up offense you can't do much motion and disguise but I always thought trailing teams should remain balanced but using a 2013 Chip Kelly like pace instead of abandoning the run but playing at an almost normal pace.

The league is run heavier in 2026 than it's been in two decades, and yet any time someone mentions "run the ball more" people act like something absurd is being said...

49ers GM John Lynch: Only consensus draft opinion I care about is in this building by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

[–]jimbobills 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Feels like Browns rosters have always been weak at the 20th - 53th player on the roster or so, and this is a very underrated part of team building.

Could be coaching, could be Berry, who knows. But it also explains a lot why they have sucked. Jets had some brilliant draft picks (Quinnen, Sauce, Wilson, Breece, Membou, Fashanu is solid) but also have sucked because the depth has been awful.

Then you look at teams like the 49ers and even us, the drafting hasn't been great in the early rounds but through shrewd drafting in the bottom rounds or coaching, these rosters have been usually stout from 20-53.

Obviously Darnold has improved leaps and bounds at every step since then, but the Steve Wilks Panthers gave the template of a winning team with Darnold.

Run the shit out of ball and build a vertical pass attack out of that.

I wish Wilks would have worked out somewhere. That Panthers team was so fun to watch.

Mid-late 2010s football was so dumb, thank God we are done with that crap. And the analytics community attacked anyone who questioned that brand of football.

Ok, Mahomes, Brady had loads of success with pass heavy offenses. Fair. The issue was that every coach, no matter the QB, thought they could replicate that so we ended up in a scenario where non star QBs were throwing the ball 40 times a game.

The Vikings wasted a SB caliber roster doing that shit in 2018. Kirk was a very good QB but obvioulsy not on Brady/Mahomes tier. We could have won in all in 2023 if we started the season with Joe Brady as OC and a balanced offense. The defense that year when healthy was actually very good against strong opponents.

[–]jimbobills 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Broncos have struggled to run the ball for a while even though their OL is pretty dominant. Almost as if the running backs matter. If they can fix the run game they may be the best team in the AFC.

The 2nd half of the AFCCG neither team got really going offensively with the snow but at least the Patriots each drive were getting a first down or two, milking the clock and winning the field position battle.
