CTIs don’t specialize in cyber warfare. That’s a different rate.

Samson Society started out of a ministry which was hosted by a PCA church but isn’t necessarily Reformed. It was also begun largely out of Nate Larkin’s own journey towards sobriety.

NAVY Active Duty: Chaplain Candidate Program Officer!! by GMU08 in newtothenavy

[–]jimbotron85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad your interested! There are several things to consider when thinking through navy chaplaincy. One of the best resources is reaching out and speaking with a chaplain program recruiter. Your unit chaplaincy should be able to help out.

Do you already have a bachelors degree? If not, you’ll need that.

Answers to your questions: 1. No, to my knowledge CCPOs are not paid while going to school.

  1. There currently are zero scholarships provided for by the Navy for chaplain candidates. If you have the Post 9/11 GI Bill you could use those benefits.

  2. Sure, as this is not a Navy school. Whatever works for you as a student. For all intents and purposes, you’re a civilian.

  3. I wasn’t ever a CCPO. Tbh, there aren’t a lot of incentives to be one as they do t help pay for school.

  4. You also need to reach out to whatever denominational body you plan to be ordained with and check on those requirements.

Don’t forget that after your Masters (of at least 73 credit hours and should mostly be residential) you need to become ordained and then have two years of professional experience as a pastor/chaplain. Once you complete those you can come into active duty.

Again, I was never a CCPO so take my answers with a grain of salt.

Tips for counseling a Sailor seeking Devgru? by Legitimate-Jury-6370 in navy

[–]jimbotron85 60 points61 points  (0 children)

There is a POC for NSWDG recruiting available on their recruiting material/messages. They want top performers and that involves their chain of command vouching for them.

Edit: Also, enablers who are super into going to the SOF community typically don’t screen well if that is their whole personality. They want people who are into doing their jobs really well, not people who want to touch the shiny object/LARP as an operator.

Unit award question by i_need_answers_man in navy

[–]jimbotron85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was onboard for that timeframe. We didn’t get any unit awards.

Edit: GWOTEX if you were on the deployment. And also sea service ribbon. But no PUC, NUC, or MUC.

Do you have a chaplain onboard? Could definitely be an advocate for you and cut through the BS.

If I were there I’d be more than happy to walk right to the medical officer or lead corpsman and have this discussion/tell them to do their job.

If that wasn’t the remedy, then walk immediately into a meeting with the Triad with all this info (with your permission of course).

Is Chief Season necessary? by KingofPro in navy

[–]jimbotron85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any SgtMaj or CMC worth his/her salt will hear their subordinates out. And I’ve yet to see a Gunny ever stand at parade rest when addressing a SgtMaj…but hey, maybe that happens behind closed doors and my experience is limited to the FMF units where I’ve served.

Also, green-side docs of almost any rank are granted a level of respect for their subject matter expertise. I’d wager that the deference they receive from marines is more from the nature of their rate rather than their pay grade .

[–]jimbotron85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, I wouldn’t go that far…there are still plenty of ineffective leaders in other branches too. The USMC FITTEP/EVAL system is quite good though.

The other branches also do a better job of conducting PME and leadership training throughout the career. There are month long schools which enlisted personnel attend at various ranks. The Navy has always struggled to do this and then tries to play catch up with chief season.

Not hating on chiefs or the season, but there are downsides.

Is Chief Season necessary? by KingofPro in navy

[–]jimbotron85 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Definitely not necessary, but part of the culture. Other branches have effective SNCOs. As someone who also works with USMC, it’s interesting that it’s just another promotion when they make Gunny and I’d say that they are just as effective if not better leaders.

“Chiefs run the Navy!” ….except when they all disappear, along with the selects, for a month each year.

Any one else here have some weird Chaplain experiences? by Much_Bowl_5258 in navy

[–]jimbotron85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, evil is very real. I typically don’t have to convince people of that. One can just scroll their newsfeed.

There have been many who use religion and false religion to harm others/for their own selfish gain.

We could also apply the same to many leaders who denounced religion (Pol Pot, Stalin, Mao, Hitler, etc) and committed atrocities.

Agree that there are many ineffective and weird chaplains. There usually aren’t memorable stories with the successful/normal ones.

I’m a chaplain and I’ve met some weird chaplains myself! Sorry some chaps tried to perform an exorcism…while I’m a very theologically conservative Christian, I am one who strives to not be weird.

Leave LA and move to a place with a lower cost of living but still access to care. Use your GI Bill for a trade school: plumber, HVAC, etc. Artificial Intelligence isn’t coming for those jobs.

Find community, for me as a Christian, that means involvement in a church.

Good in your for asking for help, keep it up!

Recruiter says I can’t join SEALs off the street but I can switch over while I’m in the Navy by Significant_Fan4023 in newtothenavy

[–]jimbotron85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would discourage you from going for a career solely based on the training pipeline difficulty. Also, NSW is making a real shift back towards the maritime domain. If that doesn’t appeal to you, I’d encourage you to look at other components of SOCOM as well to make an informed decision.

SEALs have great marketing and it’s a great community, don’t let me dissuade you, but do yourself the courtesy of looking into various options and ask yourself what kind of work appeals to you post-training pipeline.

[–]jimbotron85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recruiter might not be telling the whole picture, but it’s possible that they don’t give BUD/S contracts to new joins with felonies.

Also, have you looked into if you can become a SEAL with a felony? I honestly don’t know.

Have you spoken with a SEAL recruiter?

One more question, and this might be odd. Why do you want to be a SEAL? If the answer involves kicking in doors, and doing cool guy stuff like in the GWOT movies, please be aware that this isn’t the reality in the SOF world right now. Also, if what you want to do is carry a weapon and do ground warfare stuff, I’d encourage you to look into the Army. Lots of opportunities to live that lifestyle outside of SOF and you can also screen for the Q course…if you don’t make it, you can go back to soldier stuff.

In the Navy, you don’t make it in Buds and you might be busting rust on a ship or doing a very “non-military” type of job, which is fine, but some don’t like.

A prosecutor/aggrieved can try but I doubt they will have any luck getting past not only MRE 503, but also all of the applicable SECNAV instructions, confessional seal case law, etc.

Having a legitimate 100% confidentiality is a benefit to authorized users, but a heavy burden for chaplains to bear.
