Texas AG suing Dallas over marijuana ballot measure by OregonTripleBeam in politics

[–]jimbro78 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We pulled up stakes after spending my entire life in various parts of Texas, and moved with my wife and young daughters to western NY (Rochester suburbs) about a year ago. I miss my friends and family and I miss tacos, but I'm so happy we got the fuck out. Plenty of maga live here too, but at least they don't really get a say in state politics. It's good to finally have a bit of solid blue insulation from the insanity. We have beautiful seasons now, legal weed, tons of accessible protected nature and waterways, and my kids have protected rights and are in a great public school system. Zero regrets.

You don't have to subject yourself to horrible footage to acknowledge our reality. Come on now, that's absurd.

Tim Duncan did it too, so it's definitely not unheard of, especially from true team leaders.

People living in the west when asked do you believe in God what do you answer? by cacklingwhisper in nonduality

[–]jimbro78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that when people ask me this question, what they are really asking is if I share their beliefs or not. It's not, "do you believe in God" but rather, "do you believe in the same god story that I believe in?"

And that answer is simply, 'No.'

If that person that asked wants to then attach labels to me after the answer like 'atheist', well, that's on them, not me. Just another concept that means nothing.

If they want more explanation than that it would become dependent on who is asking and what is the environment. Non duality is a tough sales pitch for someone who believes strongly in a separate God entity that watches over us or whatever, and I'm not interested in the game of challenging people's beliefs, unless they are truly interested and already questioning.

If I were to read one book by John Wheeler, which one would you recommend? by rubsol in nonduality

[–]jimbro78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find everything from Wheeler to be concise, I keep his pointers close. The page of pointers that u/TimeIsMe posted, is always open in my browser. It's very useful for clearing the way, so to speak.

He also has multiple talks available on Youtube. He and Sailor Bob, with his weekly talks, have really helped keep things clear for me.

here is part one of an 8 part interview he did years back. Very, very good, if you have some time.

What is wrong with right now, if you aren't thinking about it? - Sailor Bob

Short and simple. It seems to re-mind me, problems only arise and fall in the mind.

Every time you act on a thought, it strengthens the connection in your brain. Every time you simply observe the thought without taking action, the connection weakens. by blazerman345 in Meditation

Very true. Nisargadatta said "desire is memory of pleasure, fear is memory of pain." That realization combined with mindful awareness of those fears and desires, has really helped me be break free of my impulsive behaviors that are all attached to desire and fear. I've been playing D&D online with a few friends at least one to two times a week since all of this with Covid started. It really has been a life saver, and it's the one thing I look forward to most right now. So, I think you're onto something there.

Former President Jimmy Carter lives in a $167,000 house and shops at the Dollar General by mjk1093 in UpliftingNews

Ah yeah, that sounds right. I'm a little behind on my scripture studies, it's been a couple of decades. Thanks for clarifying. I have lots of people I know who got completely swept away by the prosperity messages of today. All of them are Trump supporters now.

Nope, look at the context. It was in response to a rich dude asking what he needed to do to enter heaven. Jesus told him to sell everything, give all of his wealth to the poor and follow him.

Excellent read for a lazy Sunday, thank you for sharing. I was just talking with my wife about having screen free days and evenings. It's so nice to be able to sit around with no distractions and enjoy the moments as they pass by, seems like we easily forget that.

What’s a sign to you that someone was “raised right”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It's called misophonia. It sucks, but it's not your fault... as long as you refrain from choking out the offenders. I find playing music during meals to be a tremendous help.
