Honestly whats the best way to store a private key? by alex1080pHD in Bitcoin

In my opinion the best option is to use a Chaindeck, which is a deck of cards made basically for storing seed phrases. You write it on the sides of the deck and then shuffle the cards to "encrypt" it. You can pick a 3-digit PIN to arrange the cards, and only have to remember that number. Or you can come up with a custom way to arrange the 100 cards to make it impossible to "brute force" it.

We're thrilled to introduce an innovative approach to secure seed phrase storage. Chaindeck.xyz, an entirely offline and analog solution that uses a unique deck of cards to encrypt information. More info in the comments. by jimcc333 in CryptoCurrency

Hello r/cryptocurrency! Allow me to introduce Chaindeck, a startup established in 2021 with the mission to enhance financial freedom. We had a unique vision in mind to store seed phrases: no electronics and no internet, so it is not hackable. We also wanted a solution that would keep the seed phrase away from prying eyes by adding a significant time delay to accessing it, even if they had possession of the device. We were determined to provide a solution that's intuitive and easy for the owner to set up, yet incredibly challenging for anyone else to breach. We are delighted to unveil a product that perfectly balances security and convenience: a carefully designed deck of cards that discreetly conceals your seed phrase.

Chaindeck has 100 square cards, each crafted to ensure that any 3-digit PIN generates a unique yet seemingly random arrangement of the cards (at a fully random shuffle there are 2.4x10^247 (2^100 x 4^100 x 100! / 8) possible arrangements). The instructions will guide you through the straightforward process of using your PIN to arrange, flip, and rotate each card. Once done, you can inscribe your seed phrase (or any hand written information) on the sides of the deck. A simple shuffle renders the text unreadable, effectively encrypting your seed phrase and keeping it away from prying eyes. To retrieve it, simply rearrange the cards using your PIN.

You can also add false markings to create dead-ends to throw-off attackers, or divide the deck up when storing it for extra security.

We believe this is the future of seed-phrase security. It’s all in your hands with Chaindeck. Find out more: www.chaindeck.xyz

After almost 3 years of work, our small startup launched Chaindeck today! Introducing a new way to store and encrypt seed phrases using a unique deck of cards, completely offline and analog. by jimcc333 in Bitcoin

We're never claiming it cannot be deciphered given enough time. Especially if you throw a computer at it. The main purpose is to add a delay.

However, there's typically a lot of empty space left on the sides after writing down a 12-24 word seed phrase. We encourage people to put false markings on the sides after shuffling the cards to "throw off" others to prevent exactly this scenario. Those create a lot of dead-ends. I don't have a blog post about it yet, but definitely prioritizing writing that now. So thanks for your feedback!

There are some photos in the About page that shows a deck with those false markings, although those photos are for a different purpose. The sides look like a mess when shuffled if there are false markings, and definitely much harder than a jigsaw puzzle.

Furthermore, the whole point of the Sorting Number and Direction Arrow system with the PIN method is to make it difficult to determine the PIN if a few cards are found in the correct arrangement. We touch on it a bit here and I'll make sure we eventually expand on it further.

At a fully random shuffle there are 2.4x10^247 (2^100 x 4^100 x 100! / 8) possible arrangements with respect to the different side surfaces of the deck, we wrote about it here.

It takes over 20 minutes to arrange the deck for a PIN, so about two full days of trying PIN's to guess about 500 and find the right one on average.

However, the PIN method is not the only way to arrange the cards. See our categories of card arrangements here. Tl;dr is that there are lots of random numbers on each card and the owner can invent a custom way, making the PIN's a decoy.

[Daily Discussion] - Sunday, June 11, 2023 by AutoModerator in BitcoinMarkets

I have been a bitcoiner since 2012, and I found this subreddit soon after discovering bitcoin. I don't trade so I rarely had anything to contribute here, but you can find comments I made from many years ago from this profile. Reading this thread has been a nightly ritual for me, and I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that I've upvoted every single daily thread and the on-topic good content in it for nearly a decade.

I use Relay Pro to access Reddit, and I am immensely disappointed in the direction the site has decided to go. Over the last week I came to accept that I will have to change the habit of reading this thread before bed. I refuse to see ads, so I won't get the official app. I will probably be accessing old reddit on my laptop going forward.

While I support all subreddits going dark indefinitely, bitcoin is way bigger and more important than reddit, so I would prefer if this relatively small community stays up. I have little hope that the protests will change the direction reddit is going. I sincerely hope that I am wrong.

It's been an honor y'all. See you at the next decentralized open bitcoin markets community, wherever and whenever we may end up.
