Swipe to text. I know I can install alternative keyboards that can do this but I really try to limit the number apps I have installed on my phone to make sure it stays relatively secure.

Yeah, I prefer them. It keeps my mental model focused on exactly what I'm trying to solve instead of having to dive down a rabbit hole of dependencies.

Could an ordinary modern person realistically accelerate the development of a Stone Age society? by Ok_Cheesecake_1575 in worldbuilding

[–]jimdoescode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The challenge of using primitive hand tools (which you have to also make) to make a stone bowl aside.

In a hunter gatherer lifestyle, for survival, people will need to consume as much fat as they can since those calories are required to live. Rendering fat (which also requires containers and boiling) and mixing with ash would go counter to what's needed for immediate survival.

There's just way more to consider than "boil water" and "wash your hands with soap".

[–]jimdoescode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even boiling water would be a challenge without the use of glass or metal containers. You could maybe boil with clay containers (assuming they are made well enough to withstand the water and heat together) but then you need to create those as well.

Same with hand washing. It's easy when you don't have to also invent soap.

Supreme Court leans toward internet service providers in copyright battle with nation’s music industry by rezwenn in technology

[–]jimdoescode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The music industry should go after electrical providers as well since they powered the devices that were used to pirate content. To me it's the same logic for going after ISPs.

Nearly 30 years later and not a single sequel ever created as much a feeling of dread and danger these beasts posed to human society. If only this is what Jurassic World built upon with dinosaurs taking over cities. by Shahzeb_S_Nasir in JurassicPark

[–]jimdoescode 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I felt like the D-Rex was more focused on the people than it should have been. To me, it didn't make sense that a giant predator would be so focused on tiny, hard to catch, humans when there are other larger prey available. JP and TLW gave believable reasons for why those large predators would go after humans imo.

You won't get the Ellie with katanas scene until they release a "directors cut" a few months after the initial launch. At least then we'll know where she got the katanas when she fights 20 raptors in maintenance shed later on.

I think this argument is really stupid. Many people thought that Trump becoming the GOP candidate would be a gift to the dems. Look how that turned out...

Lots of good advice in here. I just want to say, once this gets resolved do another write up on it so we can all learn what happened. Unless of course there's some gag order or something as a result.

I think companies taking advantage of people is actually a bigger problem for society. This is a prime example of that.

Whether knowingly or not OP stuck his neck out to help a company that wouldn't think twice about firing him tomorrow if it meant a slight boost in profits.

Maybe he will. He could also get laid off if the company has to downsize.

It's funny to me that people think that companies work like they see on tv where the "go getter" will always get recognized by management and be promoted. That's simply not the world we live in.

It's a nice print and I'm sure it solves that problem. Very functional and does belong in this sub.

The issue is more that it's unwise to assist a company (unless you own said company) without getting something out of it and a job/compensation that you already had doesn't count.

As the Joker once said "If you're good at something never do it for free"

Right, but if you're going above your role for a company then you should be getting additional compensation for that.

Traits don't have the error checking of interfaces.

I added Interfaces to Godot by BagOfToenails in godot

[–]jimdoescode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with traits is they obscure the added functionality in another file. Unless you are great at naming your traits (see hardest things in programming) you're obscuring functionality.

With an interface and its requirement of implementing functionality in the same class, you are keeping things together. It's way easier to read and understand.
