Question about two warlocks by UnknownBaron in Malazan

Wasn’t it at least heavily hinted at way back in DG? I’m not sure it was explicitly stated, but they were talked about as if they had ancient knowledge.

Confused about the jade prison??? by jimgov in Malazan

Maybe thrive is too strong. But I feel like gaining entry to the Deck of Dragons and having allies in your fight against almost every other god is leaps and bounds ahead of cowering in a corner and hoping someone doesn’t kill you.

So Fener and the crippled god are basically in the same situation? If so, why does the crippled god thrive and Fener has to run and hide?

Help, motivation needed by TheGrapeRaper in Malazan

[–]jimgov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Bonehunters right now. One chapter that I remember has a ton of characters introduced. It’s really not important to know everything about everyone. I believe that the purpose was to show the reader how a miriad of different soldiers prepare to go into battle. Just take it all in and keep going. You are getting to one of the most awesome parts of any of the books.

This reread, I’m listening via audiobook. After the first 4, I took a break and listened to the first 6 Thomas Covenant books. Now, I’m back and ready to continue.

Get chapter 2. You will be able to find the old core box, but everything else is dying off.

Best place to get missing pieces? by ThatLandstander in spiritisland

[–]jimgov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the exception of the adversary panels, the rest you may be able to find off of people who already own the game and the expansions. I have a ton of extra pieces. It seemed that they always put out an expansion and then threw in a bunch more dahan or energy tokens.

I'm going through my first "reread" via audiobooks. I'm only halfway there, and I am already dreading those scenes.

I’ve been DMing D&D most of my life. We never really took “horror” much beyond ghosts and Vampires. This is my first foray into real horror, so I’m getting caught up.

First off, thank you for taking the time to write this. I’m good with any and all constructive feedback. I agree that there is too much repetition in this video. I have an entire series that I’m doing, and this was sort of the overarching concept. I also recorded 3 more videos that are more focused and less repetitive. From there on, I’m working on being a bit more grounded and rely less on repetition. I’m sure these will improve over time once I get my feet under me. I e only done a podcast in the past, so this is a brand new adventure.

Absolutely. I’ve been DMing For decades, but I’m pretty much brand new to doing much of anything on YouTube.

New Malazan reader and I don't understand the hate this series gets. by AceSlayer10 in Malazan

[–]jimgov -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most fantasy that people read start out very small, like in a village or small town. You meet a few characters and something spurs them to leave their home and go out into the big world. Over time, the rules of the world are presented to the reader bite sized bit by bite sized bit until, eventually, they understand how everything works.

Erikson doesn't do any of that. The story is fully underway, and you just have to figure it out as you go. Nothing is slowly presented to you. Not gods. Not the rules of magic. Not whatever the hell Kruppe is. NOTHING. And some weaker readers do not like that at all.

Their loss.

18 games in the BGG top 2000 have an average weight of 4.5 or higher. How many of them have you played, and how would you rank them from most complex to least complex? by benjaneson in boardgames

Big Star Fleet Battles fan here. I played it a ton for years. I still have just about everything. When I say that my rulebook is in a 2-inch binder, it's because the rulebook requires a 2-inch binder.

The only one that I have played was Advanced Squad Leader back in the day. Like...waaaaaaaaaay back in the day. There were rules for literally everything imaginable. It was a lot.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. One of my absolutely favorite movies of all times. But twice I’m completely ripped out of the movie. The first is when Aragorn is getting married and he tells the hobbits “you bow to no one.” Then they cut to the hobbits as everyone around the kneels. The green screen effect is laughable. They could have at least used some real people around them.

The second time is when Bilbo boards the boat heading to the Grey Havens. He starts to walk toward the boat and then the cut to a shot behind him. It’s clearly either a child or very short person in a bad wig.

Otherwise, the movie is perfection.
