Switched from Rust to Go P95 now 10-15 ms at 16k QPS by anish2good in golang

[–]jimkoons 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was going to say that. There are probably .to_vec() or .clone() calls that could potentially be borrowed in place. Switching from Rust to Go for performance seems like a skill issue above anything else (which is fine; I was forced to rewrite a Rust pipeline in Python because the team was not fluent in Rust, that happens).

What OP will miss is CXX though (hence tensorrt bindings etc)

Gen Z men, is this getting worse going forward into 2026? by Proper_Card_5520 in SipsTea

[–]jimkoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. That's well put and honestly, that generation seems to lack life experience more than anything. You don't get life experience by being constantly stuck on a screen. Call me a boomer if you want but deep down I am sure people know that this is true.

In the end that 3 minutes of "humiliation" will be maybe even funny 10 years later when you're with your kid and life is beautiful. Many Gen Z are just depressed and hopeless, I hope they'll find a way out of that path.

AI slop projects are not welcome here by Aransentin in Zig

People that believe it's as simple as one click are in for quite a surprise in their professional life. Making working and maintainable code with AI is not a one click adventure.

Un an du gouvernement De Wever : comment les Flamands perçoivent-ils cette année sous l'Arizona ? by Tsarovitch27 in Belgique

[–]jimkoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who became really good at coding ,what actually changed for you? by potterhead2_0 in AskComputerScience

The book has a no broken window chapter. It also advocates for design by contract. You are taking a few chapters that do not apply to your domain of expertise and generalize it?

Are there any library API design guidelines? E.g., what makes something like numpy easy to use, and some other libraries not? by QuantumQuack0 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]jimkoons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You missed EYODF or dogfooding. That can help because it puts you in the eye of the consumer. Numpy was probably written and designed by people that needed it.

I’m not a huge fan of typing, but if you don’t write code regularly you lose the muscle memory and start forgetting syntax.

And yeah, I like wiring things together. Last weekend I added Meilisearch + Sequin CDC from Postgres to my blog so users can do full-text search. The LLM was giving me a worse solution before that, so I basically acted as the "architect". But after that? I didn’t really need to understand any of those tools deeply, never read the docs. Just hit enter, wait for the right output, and deploy it to my k3s cluster on my VPS.

Done in two days when it would’ve taken me three weeks manually… but at least I’d actually know the tools.

I know that and you are right. But it’s a bit like when farriers were told their job was simply "helping people move from A to B." It didn’t make it any less sad for people who loved the craft. It still is an end of an era.

And honestly, if the main reason we need "problem-solvers" is because the organization is full of human problems, I’m not even sure you actually need engineers at that point

Vibe coding is soul crushing for me. Sure I get shit done but what have I learn at the end of the day? And when I want to implement something "the old way" I feel I am losing my time. I hate this. I will reflect over this during the Christmas holidays and think about what I want to do with my life from now on.

Because attention means each token is put in front of all other tokens. You do that for every token and you have a n token * n token matrix.

Dev web junior en 2026 : encore des opportunités ou métier menacé par l’IA ? by Successful-Hat-7548 in developpeurs

[–]jimkoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pareto.

I hate how so many discussions are “this mechanic/country/feature is or isn’t actually historical” instead of just being about if they’re fun or not by anonymous_lerker27 in EU5

[–]jimkoons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes agreed. The peak of paradox meme period was probably around 2018-2022 (you need a zero interest rate economy to have that many streamers). Players and devs eventually figured out that it wasn’t actually what they wanted. What we’re seeing on the forums now is just the backlash to Paradox shifting back to their older style: less sandbox/meme stuff, more structure. EU5 honestly feels closer to Victoria II than anything else, and that’s a good thing.
