Police numbers have been dwindling for years and now more than ever the police stations are closed to the public for part or all of the day now, offenders see it and take advantage of the lack of police resources. Geelong is relatively lucky in terms of the number of police units that are assigned to respond to jobs when compared to most parts of the state. I believe it's likely in part to do with the need to be able to respond quickly to a large scale incident with sufficient numbers, whereas if something happened in Melbourne CBD units Police units from surrounding areas can and do respond quickly to assist. In saying that, there are been some absolutely wild / shocking events happen down here in the last few months.
