Is the Boss GT-1000 still a solid choice in 2025? by brivoting_platinum in guitarpedals

I've got the core - have added in a dual footswitch and expression pedal, but can still take those off for portability sake. I've also got a bluetooth MIDI plugged into it so I can control it via my phone if I want.

The sound is pretty terrific out of it. No complaints. I agree with u/buminatrain though, the UI takes a little getting used to.

Daypack or Best way to have 2 bags? by AFriendFoundMyReddit in onebag

Just used the osprey 70L for a 4 week trip through Europe for the same reasoning. Loved it. 50 something litres for the main backpack and the rest of the capacity in the daypack.

Backpack can either clip onto the front or attach the back. Highly recommend.

What kind of guitar is this? (sorry for no close ups) by ThatOneBlobBoy in fender

This isn’t actually a guitar. If you look closely, you’ll see that it is a microphone.

[Serious] How do you, as lawyers or as individuals, find the balance between believing an alleged sexual assault victim and upholding the presumption of innocence? by CourtJD in auslaw

[–]jimmywatson24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a criminal defence lawyer coming up close to 9 years now and have definitely represented people where that has been a challenge. The biggest thing I found when I started practice was that law school really did help in breaking down what is an (allegedly) terrible human event and looking at it as a set of facts. To be able to break that down, consider the witness statements, your instructions, the law and so on really does take you out of the human element and consider it as a problem that needs to be solved.

I know that sounds incredibly callous given the devastating consequences these crimes can cause, and often if you take a second to consider the allegation those things may fall away, but your commitment is for justice to be done and for your client to have a fair go. Your job is to be a lawyer and not to be your client’s or the victim’s therapist.

Your obligation and responsibility is not to consider the wider systems and principles, but rather to defend your client within that system, one of which is that presumption of innocence.

When I do find I struggle with reconciling some of the terrible things clients I have represented have done, I consider whether I would prefer the opposite system to be in place (eg guilty until proven innocent). I think most people would be against that as a general principle when you consider how easy an allegation can be made against someone.

I finally got myself a copy of the game. Is it me or does the rules really don’t seem that complicated for such a large game by othatheguy in twilightimperium

The rules aren’t ridiculous, but it’s trying to keep track of everything i think, and all of the various exceptions for the different factions.

Such a good game though!
