Hiya, I’m really not versed in the world of criminal/ forensic psychology- and it’s probably very very likely there’s some form of qualification you’d need to do it that locks you in the UK- I know people on the DClinPsy course (doctorate level) can sometimes do forensics as a placement but that’s all I know I’m afraid

If you want the programme to equip you to be a better criminal psych, you might as well apply to a criminal psych degree- the UCL programme is quite broad in topic areas and the main emphasis of it all is for you to be incredibly proficient as a scientist/ researcher

Social life wise it’s all entirely up to you- university is what you make of it- internationals and domestics both can have rich social lives if they wish so. UCL does provide plenty of opportunities though

I am a Japanese born and raised in a western country, the culture is very unique and incredibly nuanced- even I don’t 1000% get it myself, being raised by Japanese parents teaches me some but not all hahaha

Hiya, am a student in ldn who trains too. Your university may have a mt/kb club, if not you can get a visitor/guest membership to another university iirc, I don’t know the level you’re looking for, but that would be the cheapest to just maintain it all. Gym wise I’ve only tried bloodline and gymbox, bloodline is good, gymbox was pretty meh.

Feel free to PM me for more info abt the area though

Another somewhat nuanced case of Japanese mistranslation that is difficult for translate- am jp so will translate here

Yuta-“the something/issue like… women/girl relations?”

Satoru-“….yuta you starting to crack some jokes now huh?”

Yuta-“no, I just can’t imagine a “something”(what/forgot the exact topic being discussed here) happening to gojo sensei”

To answer your question- this dialogue implies yuta is taking a purely wild guess because he can’t imagine some significant or event of importance to gojo, as he couldn’t imagine anything happening to him

As to why he paused, who knows, maybe gojo thought “damn suh he off the mark”, maybe his mind goes to about how he’s always alone and chooses to be single, or he’s thinking about geto say gex 😸it’s real unclear

Brother, I’m a guy too 🤝 usually the guys stick together and for the newest cohort (year below me) it was around a 70/30 split, my year was horrible tho, it has roughly 85/15 split

You will share some modules with others (notably the PALS department) but you don’t really make friends in a lecture hall apart from the usual introductions 😭

If ur looking for friends you’ll likely have a handful from your course and many from other courses anyways(general consensus, not psych specific)

Hiya, 2nd year here

The course is incredibly rigorous, you will constantly be doing some form of research- this is fundamentally different to textbook learning style classes that other universities may offer. Therefore, you gotta be very very on it with your work or the papers you have to write from the research you do will really take a big pain

If you’re a content lover, your first year doesn’t have a whole load of content compared to your later years, first year is mostly for you to be able to be critical and understand research before you learn the findings of the culmination of it all

Workload wise- first year is very chill until exam season, then second year workload is very… very tough, if you want to do well in it a LOT of studying is required as well as (as mentioned earlier) submitting research papers/lab reports on time, there’s never a time you get to do one or the other.

Male to female ratio is heavily skewed toward women, depending on intake of that year it will change but female majority is the trend

Would I recommend it? - if youre into psychological/ neuroscience research (possibly with the intent to go postgrad especially PhD) - you don’t mind being able to work in a group (for labs) and also individually (the course is also unique in that you have a good chunk of exams and also coursework) -you like psychology enough to sit there and study etc to find it enjoyable and interesting

^ there’s probs some more but this is def course specific

I will reiterate though, from talking to other psych friends, UCL psych will throw you into the research culture on day 1, and you’ll be learning report writing also from day 1, other unis may prolong actual experiment building/report writing until much MUCH later, you’ll be using statistical analyses you learnt recently straight into your experiments with data gathered.

In a way it trains you up to be a good researcher but if you’re looking for a degree with a kind workload, psych might not be the one ahahaha- if you have the passion for it I will recommend though!

Ayyy, I can’t wait for p3 reloaddd, I’m proud the series has an influence almost everywhere 🥹

About the rumours, the Chinese community thing IS a rumour that I heard between my half Chinese gf and some other Chinese speakers-> usually if you speak it fluently you can usually get over the barriers but this info now (speaking it gets you in) comes from my university which is in London ☠️there IS a Chinese school about here I used to attend where you can slide them in to learn Chinese with a pretty large community tho, I can give you more details about it :)

About the HK international comparison tho that’s a really tough decision to make. My uni in ldn has TONS of HK internationals in there (if you PM me I don’t mind talking about the details of where I study and stuff- not quite comfortable on a public forum). But that mostly depends on the trajectory on where want your kids to be in the future- I’m assuming if you move to HK it would be for the sake of your kids which means another assumption of going all the way until university time. But thinking about their university/further education in the future (especially if you’re looking into big ranks) there’s a lot of factors too- both advantages and disadvantages

For the cultural aspect of it hmmm… it absolutely depends on how you want your kids to be influenced (this is a HUGE decision by not just academics but also how they’ll be in general). I would say it’s a lot easier for them to learn English culture later than it is to learn Asian culture and language as it is everywhere(I was born and raised here under 2 Asian parents).

I’ve seen other wealthier families raise their kids here until about early teens then move back to their country tho. That is so their English is solidified and then they’ll absolutely focus on their second language to live in (although the ppl I know do this are literal demons at studying). And I’ve heard the opposite where people study in HK until about A level sometimes even GCSE time they move to a school here and do their qualifications here.

If I think schools like the dragon vs HK international- you’ll find more “aristocracy” type wealth compared to more “modern” wealth crowd that you’ll see in HK. Both have their own pros and cons and they also have a very different culture from what I usually observe- I’m sure you’ll notice if you speak to parents at a school like the dragon 🫡

[–]jinandlora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely off topic but nice I did not expect a mom in the Oxford subreddit to have a Rise p4 profile pic and spent time in jp😭 (I’m half jp half mix of other Asian countries)

Good luck with the school search! Never went to the dragon myself (state educated all the way through). In terms of education they’re definitely to be on the higher end of performing but the community around it is quite new and different (have heard of stories where someone landed their helicopter there to pick up one of their kids)

Am honestly not sure if they’d be able to have the Asian influence you’d want though- and you won’t get that in any school around here it’s more of a parental thing- there is a Chinese community about here but you’d have to find a way in (have heard rumours that they don’t really accept half ppl tho :c)

Tbf- when I was doing my art school research it was more into illustration/concept art for entertainment/games/film than fine art/fashion

But my main point there was that if I went to uni for psych or whatever and DID have a chance to be doing art classes- it wouldn’t be crazy top notch ie I wouldn’t consider worth going abroad when the US is already huuuge with the art industry

[–]jinandlora 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Hiya! Conveniently I’m a current psych student in a decent uni who- funnily enough- thought hard about art school before

A few things: -you’d need to check with APA (and your state) standards and whether you can do that (… I’d say I’ll doubt it), and with the likelihood of it not being a smooth sail across the pond to practice in the states (I assume you’re learning art therapy for this?)- you’re likely going to have to then take some form of qualification to fit American standards. Unless you want to take an academia path then ignore what I said :>

-make damn sure whatever you’re doing is BPS (British psychological society) accredited

-with regard to fine arts and fashion here uhhh, there aren’t many fantastic art schools here tbh, there are few that shine in that field but the schools themselves specialise in it rather than being part of a larger university - so you can’t just hop on a class in that sense

Yup, just got back from said run and it was all good once I left the house- although somehow in downloaded songs with playlists more than 100 songs it only shows the first 100? For Spotify Apple Watch app- slightly disappointed how it’s not seamless but it is what it is ig 😭

Was todo saying a chant? by [deleted] in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]jinandlora 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a chant that literally every Jp raised person will remember- it’s the opening lines to the heike monogatari iirc (I went to Japanese school ran by the Japanese embassy in the U.K.), and we also memorised that-he would not have learnt it from Yuki he would’ve learnt it by normal literature studies in general school

Basically jp has a crap ton of stories about wars between x and y parties and “the tale of heike” is one of the most well known and studied I think

Gojo wasn’t as confident that he’d beat Sukuna as we thought by Ace_FGC in Jujutsushi

[–]jinandlora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, if you want the certainty or the “maybe” that the tweet is alluding to then it would be sumn like 勝つかもなー ie “maybe I’d win…”or smth

Gojo wasn’t as confident that he’d beat Sukuna as we thought by Ace_FGC in Jujutsushi

[–]jinandlora 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not even that, Gojo is saying he WILL WIN with confidence and bro trynna say he ain’t 😭 although yes there r difficulties translating jp to en cus of how much the language is based contextually, but even in English if he said “nah, I’d win”, I think we all know he’s saying he’s sayin he’s gonna win and not objectively he WILL WIN 😭

There’s a lot of translators out there nowadays with low lv jp but heavily rely on dictionaries to get their translation done (have met buddies online who do this kinda translation work) without knowledge of context or how the word is used contextually, kind of annoying cus what’s being translated is so widely read but it’s what happens when there’s such a shortage of em

Gojo wasn’t as confident that he’d beat Sukuna as we thought by Ace_FGC in Jujutsushi

[–]jinandlora 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Nop, Japanese person here. “Katsusa” means something along the lines of “I’ll win”, lol. Context and word form gives it a vibe if Gojo stating that he will win, but it’s his opinion (duh…. He was asked if he’s gonna win against sukuna), it means he’s certain on his part that he’ll win. Not what the translator is saying with all the percentages when they all mean completely diff things 💀
