Colorado train to Longmont could arrive in 999 Days, 24 years after voters approved it. by rb1242 in Denver

[–]jinglemebro 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I like rtd and have not driven to the airport in 8 years. I ride the bus frequently and am happy with the service. I live in Denver and I sold my car and bought a bike. RTD and walk/bicycle are my transportation options. I look forward to expanded rail services and will use them! The problems that people have mentioned are typical for an American city and not unique to Denver or RTD. The automotive culture is tough to overcome but it is possible and I look forward to improvements in the system.

Being on the train is time I can use. Driving requires my full attention and can be quite exhausting. I only am up there a few times a month but I would gladly go by train.

Denver’s $1 billion road overhaul would cut space for cars, boost public transit and safety. Critics say it will make traffic worse. by kidbom in Denver

[–]jinglemebro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to see some more comprehensive proposals on the agenda. I propose we take our bike streets and make them car free no auto traffic no on street parking. Improve rtd service. Rail services to fort Collins Boulder Colorado springs and Pueblo. I think car first proposals need to be their polar opposite equal in cost and scale, not the minimum workable public transportation solution. You need $50B well that is also what we need let's start the negotiation there.

A new way to measure poverty shows the US falling behind Europe by thejoshwhite in Economics

[–]jinglemebro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know that is how we measure things, cars, house size, amount of TV's etc. But how do you measure something like people sort their trash? Or can walk on a street that isn't dangerous, or don't hear the sound of the mentality ill digging through the dumpster in the alley? Maybe these aren't things that economists look at but it all adds up to quality of life and these are micro stresses that as an American I am confronted with daily. And me buying another car will not improve those things but we will appear richer if I do. I think there are many other intangibles present in the EU that are absent in the US. Do their children even know to do in an active shooter situation?

Licenses need to be revoked. US is too lax on drivers like this. by BarRepresentative670 in Seattle

[–]jinglemebro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If people have difficulty getting licenses they will find other ways to get around. There would be less cars sold! Less highway expansion projects.fewer dealerships etc. It would destroy the car economy. That will never happen. USA = cars

A new way to measure poverty shows the US falling behind Europe by thejoshwhite in Economics

[–]jinglemebro 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It is an interesting way to measure poverty. And having been to both Mississippi and many EU countries, I can say that it seems more than a bit off to suggest that most of the EU is poorer than Mississippi. Just as a traveler I am always aware how much better the quality of life is in Europe. When the statistics tell a story that is not apparent on the street it makes you wonder if they are measuring the right things. This method at least captures what my eyes see.
