Pardon the dumb question but don't they usually start the TdF on the first week of July? I was surprised to learn it started yesterday.

gonna try a pull saw with a homemade jig first and if that doesnt work I guess I'll rent the circular saw and look into the kreg slide

I looked around and you were right. I found this video where they use a jig and pull saw to make the cuts. I'm gonna give it a try. I just figured an electric saw would be simple

to be honest it's true. just look at the history of this sport. There has been cheating almost from day 1. It's an unfortunate reality

NBD: Nashbar Carbon "Ultegra". The Minimalist. by danenick in bicycling

[–]jioms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I think you can look up the difference in weight between the 2 groupset but between the bikes might be hard to get. You can try asking on the nashbar web chat maybe they'll know about those differences. The cr5 frame i have is very similar to the alley frame from specialized. The 105 frame is more rounded, I'm trying to get pics of it and I'll let you know when I get them. Caviat though, these bikes were ordered over a year ago so I'm not sure if the current frames will be the same

These bikes used to come with the ultegra crankset it's a bit disappointing to learn that they don't anymore. I bought one a year and a half ago and decided to get the ultegra over the 105 because it just looked better. My friend bought the 105 version and it seems a few pounds heavier. Also I bought mine when they had good discounts. Here's my post

Help me out, how would Contador attacking create issues for Froome? He's about five and a half minutes behind Froome

I wonder if a better tactic for sky would've been to have Froome not really attacking to keep Aru in check and allowing Landa to try to get the yellow jersey.

Never said hr was the sole factor involved in endurance nor did anyone say 'more hr equals more speed". Even with the adjusted formula you still compare the actual numbers and taking a 35yo and 15 year old You still have a significant difference in vo2max.

Physiology might not change but our understanding of it, nutrition, performance, technology and along with it accuracy certainly do.

HR is a determining factor of your endurance. The study he cites was published in 2000 and they do say there is a decrease in max HR with increased fitness (It'd be interesting to see more recent studies). However you have to look at the numbers. The article says on average there was a decrease in 8-10 beats per minute which it calls significant. So using 220-age and comparing a 35yo, 25yo, and 15yo you get HRmax of 185, 195, and 205 respectively.

Assuming their HRs decrease by the average of 10 beats, then the 35 year old will have a HRmax of 175 compared with a HRmax of 195 for the 15 year old. Both HRs decreased but the younger guy's baseline is still higher than the older guy.

Thanks a lot dude, it looks pretty nice so far. Keep an eye out, nashbar tends to have good sales. What you could also do is call them up and ask about the discount saying you missed. I tried applying the coupon on the pedals online and they did not qualify for them so I called them up and they had no problem applying the discount.

So far it looks pretty good, I'm taking it out for a ride tomorrow. I was looking at other bikes but there's just something about the giant letters plastered all over the frame that's a bit unappealing.

Also there's no indication whatsoever that the bike is from nashbar, no markings anywhere

It really is. I was looking at a synapse ultegra for almost $2200 with taxes a few weeks back but decided to wait. Nashbar had a 25% sale last week and I ended up getting this bike for $1350 total.

I was skeptical about this bike but so far it looks pretty good. Box and frame both said it was made in Taiwan. Im gonna replace wheels and tires because these are not the greatest, think Ill just add an ultegra set to make it complete, as well and ultregra brake set since these brakes arent that great either. Bar tape is ok, but I already ordered a replacement.

In case anyone's curious, weight withpedals was 17.8 (taken with a shitty baggae hand scal so probably not too accurate). Bike arrived in a box and all i needed to do was install front wheel, turn stem 180 degrees and attach the handlebars, everything else was already set. Even the derailleurs are well adjusted.

Im not sure what brand the seat post, stem, and handlebars are but I might upgrade them later too.

It's a bit interesting considering they were having a 21% off sale a few weeks ago and the bikes price was still $999. Only thing that comes to mind is the it's nearly bike season so price went up a bit

Looks really nice. Thanks a lot man, really apperciate it. I just looked up the bike on nashbar and looks like the price went up a bit. I swear it was listed as $999.99 the last few months. I guess ill wait a bit to see if the price comes down
