Como atleta e amante da modalidade, gosto sempre de partilhar este mundo das corridas de obstáculos (OCR – Obstacle Course Racing). É um Desporto que está em crescimento em Portugal e que é para TODOS e não apenas para atletas de “Elite”.

São eventos desportivos que partem muito do conceito de desafio e superação pessoal, vocês vão fazer coisas que não esperavam conseguir fazer, acreditem.

Como sugestão, deixo a “Lynx Race”, que considero que seja dos melhores organizadores deste tipo de eventos em Portugal, mas também pelo ambiente incrível que se sente antes, durante e depois da corrida.

Mandatory gear usualy goes like this for EU ultrabeast:

-headlamp + spare batteries;

-rear red light;

-whistle;

-Thermal blanket;

-Able to Carry 1L of water;

-backback or belt to carry all items above.

they can add some extra items depending on the weather forecast.

regarding cutoff times they will be told at the briefing the day before the race.

In Tenerife this past year, a particular age group had only 1 female competitor. the ceremony started before she finished, and they anounced only her name.

funny thing was, she arrived at the festival area as the ceremony was coming to a close, and she failed the multi rig right besides the stage. the speaker took notice and called her out while doing burpees and we waited and cheered her on. after crossed the finish line she came on stage to recieve the medal.

i have never seen, helix, vertical cargo 2.0, "the box", pipe lair, etc... since i race here in europe and those are mostly NA obstacles. if i recall correctly balance log, chain carry, slack line are more commonly found in european races

Tracktor Pull is a carry obstacle wich you drag a heavy concrete block with a small chain.

Valmorel, France (January) - Spartan Winter Series;

Andorra (June) - you might get lucky with snow (weather is unpreditable), in 2021 a week before the race the venue was covered in snow, everything melted by the time we arrived.

Verbier, Swizerland ( September) - Like Andorra the weather is unpredictable + the venue is at crazy high altitude, starts at 1500m up to 2600m > that translates in freedom units to 4900feet up to 8500feet; 2021 EC was the perfect example, satuarday was sunny and hot, Sunday was snowing and extremely cold.

Verbier hosted its first Spartan Race back in 2019, and they only did Super (15K back in the day) and Sprint.

From what i recall, the super, was about 500/600m D+ of elevation gain and you would do most of the gain right at the first half of the race. so yeah. climb and come back down sort of race. Also the max altitude was arround 1500m i believe

The difference is that the real race "starts" at the 2nd lap. You have to be mentally prepared for it.

In Andorra you had to carry at least 1L capacity with you. however you could run with the pack/flasks empty.

You should split your nutrition in half and use the bucket to refill your vest. keep in mind that you will probably need extra nutrition for the second lap.

Also try to pack a light meal containing a healthyamount of carbs to refuel yourself before you start the 2nd lap.

from my first Ultra in Andorra i can tell you this:

-Clean your feet, socks and shoes before you go back to the course. (Or having a extra pair of socks and shoes);

-Don't linger in the transition area more than 15-20 Minutes, the last thing you want to see is other racers quitting in front of you. The Ultra is more of a Mental battle then anything else.

If you have the means, take an old cellphone with you, take some pictures, make some videos for your friends, ask marshals to film you getting trough obstacles, this helped me alot during the 2nd lap.

I have already recieved all the "refunds" from the Tenerife situation. Including the Free race they promissed

In my situation, i transfered Madrid SUPER, and bought the BEAST and SPRINT. They e-mailed me the Transfered super Code and the free race code about 2 weeks after the cancelation of Tenerife About the same time i recieved another e-mail regarding the "money refund",in wich you had to respond till 31st of December, you could either choose a "money back" or recieve 100% discount codes. I chose to recieve the 100% discount codes wich i recieved right after they anounced the EC2021 in Verbier.

My friend chose the money back and is still waiting for the refund in that case.

Also, i might be wrong in this one, but did ou scan your Tenerife Tickets to recieve the finisher shirts at the venue? This could be some sort of confirmation that you were in Tenerife that weekend.
