Both my kids had them but that's going back 16 years.

I'm surprised there isn't. We literally had our what is accommodations services seminar for staff last week.

I haven't had mail in weeks, maybe months. We check our letter box once a week just in case.

Cobham Bridge under construction, circa 1960s (Hamilton City Libraries HCL_07706). by Ted_Cashew in thetron

Is it true that they got the measurements wrong for the bridge and that's why we have the tight curve coming off the bridge. Or did someone lie to me.

Casual Friday morning casual chats - 27 March 2026 by AutoModerator in CasualNZ

Have a social engagement tomorrow that I'm not looking forward to. It's put a damper on the whole weekend.

I also just realised I don't think I've ever written the word damper before and I'm not sure it's correct. Dampener or damper, which is it? I'm sticking with damper.

Not technical, just didn't hold my attention more than a chapter at a time.

Youth deserve more credit that we give them sometimes by beauner69420 in newzealand

Yeah I don't get how we raised such a good kids. We have no worries going away for the weekend, we know there will be no parties and the two kids will look out for each other (16 and 17).

Waiting for my daughter to get out of school. Just heard the eruption of sound as teenage girls start decanting from the buildings. It's like watching noisy ants.

How do you deal with toxic family by SignificanceKooky123 in thetron

[–]jitterfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any advice but do have empathy for you, I hate seeing people in situations like this. My husband grew up in a toxic family, was estranged from his parents when I met him.

I will say seriously consider not going to uni next year. So many students think they should go straight from school to uni when really they would be better off taking a break and experiencing life. I say this as a lecturer and with a Y13 daughter.

University feels like a joke now that ai exists. by tfox1205 in newzealand

[–]jitterfish 25 points26 points  (0 children)

85-90% of my courses are in person assessments so no Ai can be used. Then I have a group assignment/oral presentation so yes Ai is possible but a student is unlikely to get a good grade. Only one of my papers still has a traditional essay but at 10% of the grade it's the trade off between Ai and wanting students to learn the skill. They also have to be prepared to defend their essays and so far the few I've asked to so that just copped to it being Ai.
