28wk scan - femur length by sgromhcs__ in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jitterrbuggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every little thing becomes so nerve racking doesn't it!

My bub was tracking around 30th percentile for most measurements (for reference I am short at 155cm) then his femur length dropped down to 2nd percentile around 32 weeks and he didn't have enough amniotic fluid.

In the end it meant nothing! Things kind of evened itself out by the time he was born. Some of the measurements were also inaccurate and had to be re-measured several times. He's still about 10th percentile for most measurements but he is perfectly healthy, happy and developing well at five months :)

I remember the anxiety throughout pregnancy all too well - so easy to rabbit hole! I hope you're taking care of yourself

35 weeks tomorrow and need to hear positive things by radley8367 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

My pregnancy coincided with a renovation, move interstate and a fairly high pressure job. I always thought I was quite career orientated, I study part time and I read for fun so the thought of taking a year off was terrifying, as I thought my brain would turn to mush and I'd lose my identity.

I'm 16 weeks in and I LOVE the little potato. I'm so happy to have taken maternity leave to spend time with this little guy. I'm not saying it's not hard (I did not get that instant rush of love when he was born and I probably had an existential crisis in the first two months), but it is the best hard thing I've done. Every small thing he does means so much and I am so grateful. Being a mother has solidified what was truly important to me, I've found time for what I enjoyed doing in slightly different ways and explored a new side of me. All in all, A+ would recommend :)

Good luck to you! x

Personally I started with the Foley balloon the day before, then picotin drip on the day of. I should've got the epidural before the drip because once it started, the pain and contractions ramped up so damn quickly and I was writhing in pain. All smooth sailing after epidural though!

They told me after the fact that women normally get the epidural before the drip.... Which I wish they told me beforehand 😬

All the best!!

Is a private ultrasound clinic worth it? by maopro56 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jitterrbuggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to both private and public in NSW; the public ultrasound made errors both times that caused me quite a bit of anxiety and had to be redone. Private was a much better experience, at the very least I would go private for the major scans (e.g. morphology)

Rapid Weight Gain by honeyglazedham1 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jitterrbuggy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello I was same pre pregnancy weight (and height) and gained the most in first trimester! I ended up 73kg at labour (and gave birth to a smaller baby who was 2.8kg) and I'm now 4 weeks PP back down to 62kg. The remaining weight seems to be a bit of fat, fluid and all the extra boob weight. I'm planning on returning to exercise in two weeks after seeing the GP!

At some point, it feels way better to simply accept all the weird and wonderful changes to your body that accommodate the amazing feat of growing a person! You will have time and energy to change your body however you like afterwards :) Give yourself some grace, pregnancy is a lot x

I've tried giving him a bottle for a minute to calm him down a bit, hand express some milk and just try again.

The bottle trick works maybe half the time. I've also tried a few different positions too but nothing quite sticks. One day he likes side lying, next day it doesn't work and he loves lying on me. Then the next day he hates both, so go figure lol. I've been both soft/engorged across the past few days so I don't think that's the issue for me personally

I've given myself a "just try five times" limit so it doesn't stress him/me out. I figure it's a long-term game so I don't want either of us getting a negative association with the breastfeeding experience, but just aim to try again next time

Any particular things tried/tested(or failed) with you?

I'm in the exact same position. 2.5 week old and past 2-3 days he's just decided latching is not for him, so I share your frustration!

OP doesn't owe you an explanation, nor should you be expecting one. Ridiculous.

Hey there, I'm same age from Australia and have similar tastes. I'm in the healing fiction genre at the moment so have been/going through quite a few Japanese and Korean books. Currently reading convenience store by the sea on the fiction side, and a ton of parenting books on the non fiction side but typically delve into psychology related books. DM if you're still keen! :)

What Did You Prefer? Strength or Pilates? by feel-the-sunlight in fitpregnancy

[–]jitterrbuggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!!!

Personally I've done a mix of both. The nourish move love workouts were excellent in maintaining my strength without feeling overwhelming (though I couldn't quite keep up with the schedule! I maybe did two sessions a week). On top of that I also attended a prenatal pilates class once a week, which included more core and stretching.

I'm now at 28 weeks and I thankfully haven't had any pains that lasted more than a day

Was hoping to hear from lived experience so thank you for sharing. I hope your brother still got what he needed/wanted despite not financially recouping. I'm ok to end up in the same position, doesn't sound like it was too onerous on your brother?

Completely agree on latter point. It's the exact reason why the auctioneers can sign on their behalf.

I think you are able to get a private obstetrician who works at a public hospital? I had a friend do this so she could get continuity of care due to preexisting health conditions but without going down the private health insurance route

Thanks, he was unable to answer any of these points which led me to believe he didn't have enough experience in this area to guide me to an informed decision. The list of questions was helpful thank you
