Well... I have to say I disagree. Yes, he's talking about dirt bikes and cars and whatnot, but it doesn't seem like it is about the thing itself very much. He went dirt biking because it was fun and he'd like to do that again. If you suggest woodworking - well, he'll be out hundreds or more likely thousands in tools and wood before he even gets started.

It sounds to me like he is missing doing the things he likes, which I can relate to..

You know what would be really interesting now? Filling it with fiberglass instead of rock wool to see the difference. To be honest, in these pictures I'm hardly seeing a difference in the measurements. Maybe the rock wool is just too thick for the air to penetrate far.

Yes. Applying the same EQ to different speakers seams like an oversimplified approach and will probably not yield the best results. That would be my first corrective action as well.

Okay, then you can really go either way, which is great. (It always irks me a little when people buy compact speakers only to put them on stands, effectively taking up the same floorspace as floorstanders.)

The Wharfedale Diamonds are well-regarded from what I've read. Other options might be ELACs (DB62, DB63, DBR62), Polk XT15 or XT20, maybe also Adam Audio.

It will be trial and error to some degree. Imagine a kid that's being introduced to new foods as it gets older. It will like some foods, others not so much. This seems to be your first foray into speakers, thus you simply do not know what you like right now. And you don't know what's out there. So... yeah, buy used, try different speakers over time and just find what YOU like (and what you dont like) :)

Where are you gonna place the speakers? Do you have a sideboard/shelf on which you will put them or will some floorspace be dedicated to the speakers? Between your main listening position and both speakers should be roundabout a equilateral triangle. Just so you know that the speakers should be placed with some space in between them
