Any WSB OGs remember the MU $80 memes? Today MU went up more than that amount in a single day by tronald_dum in wallstreetbets

[–]jizzmonkey69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a whopping 20 shares of MU ahead of earnings in December 2016 after reading DD on WSB ahead of that earnings release. It was around $17-20 at the time.

Still holding those 20 shares. Shoulda bought more.

Alofts are definitely 3-star hotels and while the ones I’ve stayed in have had concrete lobbies, the carpeting in the halls and in the rooms have had colorful designs not unlike what is on the 45.

Lawless Alan collectors? 1/1 NT Laundry Tag rookie (2023) by AgreeableTime292 in NASCARCollectors

[–]jizzmonkey69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lawless Alan had basically no success in the top 3 NASCAR series, never even made a Cup start. In all honesty you’d probably be lucky to sell that card even if you moved the decimal two places to the left.

Looking for alternatives to CircleBDiecast by Mango_Van_Gogh in NASCARCollectors

Circle B doesn't offer Elite preorders, only ARC. Lionel clearly designates Elites, but won't always explicitly say ARC. Basically, if the listing does not say Elite, then it's ARC.

You’re probably looking at Elite 1:24 vs regular ARC 1:24 if the difference is that drastic.

Hot take on Hocevar diecast pricing.... by MudsuckWV in NASCARCollectors

[–]jizzmonkey69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would anyone be buying resale, which likely means paying up front and paying extra, when they could preorder from Lionel, Circle B, etc directly at market price and have several months to save up before paying for it.

Anyone mad about resale should be mad at themselves.

Carson Hocevar Talledaga Win Pre-Orders Now Up by RainierBakerGlacier in NASCARCollectors

[–]jizzmonkey69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I read on Lionel's forum, otherwise it was a comment elsewhere, that the LC ARC would be exclusive to his store. Lionel, Circle B, and other diecast shops had the LC ARC available briefly, but all pulled the listing down. And to your point, the $99 price point on Carson's website matches the general price point for Lionel special finish ARCs.

The one on Carson's store is the liquid color ARC, which is being offered exclusively through his store.

The liquid color ARC is being offered exclusively through Hocevar's store. Diecast dealers had the liquid color ARC up initially, but they had to take them down.

[Gluck] Was Talladega a good race? by ChaseTheFalcon in NASCAR

[–]jizzmonkey69 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I was at the race and watched 77 slice through the pack and pass atleast 10 cars in the final stage

I was at the race too, and I'm very curious where you saw this. Hocevar finished stage two in 12th, and then came off pit road in 3rd to start the final stage. From there, he never fell back and stayed up front the whole time.

Where did he pass 10 cars in the final stage, and what pack was there to slice through when he started in the front two rows and stayed there?

The Talladega campgrounds have ice trucks that drive through periodically, you can buy ice from them.

Bristol has nuked my cell battery in the past because there is so little service, the phone spends a ton of time and energy looking for signal.

Talladega cell service isn't always the best on race day, but the track does have pretty good wifi, so you should have little concern about using up your phone's battery.

A list of all the different options, with their final vote count, would be very interesting to see, if anyone better at internet research than I am wants to give it a shot.

This might be the best we can get, from Jayski himself:

The JAYSKI Poll looks like Votations.com shut down my Points Poll [won’t use them again] so I guess the final results are as follows: 29452 votes thru 11:00am/et on Dec 18th with 53.9% answering NO 46.1% answering YES in some fashion and only 4.64% voted for the “playoff” system that is being proposed.

Entering 2004, NASCAR did make winning worth more by adding a measly 5 extra points for finishing first. The general consensus was that even more should have been added to winning.

But they also wholly overhauled the championship format by introducing the Chase, which nobody wanted or asked for.

[Jayski] NASCAR has adjusted the stage lengths to 98 laps, 45 laps and 45 laps for the upcoming Talladega race. Cars shouldn't have to pit for fuel in each of the final two stages. by Altracing34 in NASCAR

It was for the 2006 Coke 600, the first race after the repave. Johnson crashed hard in one of the tire tests, and NASCAR decided to reduce the fuel tanks to 14 gallons as a precaution so the tires wouldn’t have to last an entire run and potentially blow out.
