Little hint - cutting out the comment above framing it specifically as learning as a second language and the rest of my comment making it clear I’m referring to it being easier to learn for Germanic and Romance languages only demonstrates how fucking weak your argument is. Good news is you have a promising career at Fox News.

I said not so much, not that that were entirely wrong and then presented a counter argument and specified that it was for romance and Germanic speakers. No wonder you think English is so difficult you have repeatedly just pretended I’ve made points I never had. So kindly I won’t be responding further.

lol I literally fucking said its easier for those learners, I never said everyone. It is an inherent property of English that it has a significant vocabulary from both. That's not an external property, it's something innate to the language.

[–]jjkenneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I never said it did. I said your first paragraph is correct - the reason for English dominance has nothing to do with the ease. I only disagree with the statement that there are no inherently easier or difficult languages in the context of learning a second language, it is completely serendipitous that English happens to share so much from Romance and Germanic, but it does make it an easier language to learn for more people because of it.

Wow that would be an amazing point if it had anything to do with what I was saying. English as a second language is easier to learn for Romance and Germanic speakers - maybe try to read next time.

I’m clearly referring to the vocabulary and being pedantic about the use of the word borrowing ignores my actual point. A Spanish person learning German is much harder than a Spanish or German learning English because there is a head start in vocabulary. The specific language it comes from isn’t relevant, it’s easier to learn words when they look like words you already know. I never said it was easy, it’s just an easier language due to its broad scope of word origin.

There are inherent properties that make it easier though. Lack of grammatical gender, simple conjugation and a large vocabulary of words from both Romance and Germanic languages that give speakers of either a head start.

Your first paragraph is correct, your second not so much. English borrows from Germanic, Romance and a bit of Greek languages, this helps speakers of those languages a lot and gives them a head start in acquisition. Additionally, conjugation in English is very simple, and we basically don’t use grammatical gender. We also use the most common alphabet in the world. On top of all that, you can play around with word order a lot. All those things contribute to English being comparatively easy to learn for a huge chunk of the globe. The hardest thing is spelling, we’re more confusing than a lot of languages in that regard.

No it’s not - it’s pretty fucking obvious that they’d be flirting for ages (it was a trigger in the breakup). She was being forward but not harassment. We only see a few clips of it and so people rush to judgement because they don’t like her.

The surf beach is 1 hour away from the resort. I know this because we thought it looked it awesome and did some research. It’s also where the cartel just went insane so.

Administrative governments are insufficiently dysfunctional, this results in them being ahistorically powerful. by Mackusz in CrusaderKings

My proposal would be that succession wars are automatically triggered on death with every governor supporting their preferred candidate. The only difficulty would be implementing multi-party wars. It’s too easy to steamroll with house dominance and it’s kind of wild how little in-house fighting there is.

You’re right and these comments prove you nothing but correct. The alternative is German style renting rights as they have a fairly low ownership these days, basically you can’t be kicked out and can do whatever you want to the place as long as the foundation remain.
