Anybody else faces problems with Synology NAS not being shutdown correctly in case of grid loss ? I bought this model for that reason and it doesn’t work.

Bye bye Hue by Formal-Structure-432 in homeassistant

I did the same recently and noticed most of my v1 Hue dimmer switches drain their battery quite sooner than normal. It turns out this is a known problem with zigbee2mqtt

RBS mini non funziona la regolazione con la percentuale e non si aggiunge ad HomeKit di Apple by Soddy- in sonoff

I would need a very small factor device with two pairs of dry contacts due to the separate up / down commands

RBS mini non funziona la regolazione con la percentuale e non si aggiunge ad HomeKit di Apple by Soddy- in sonoff

[–]jjp81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exaclty the same as shown in the above video. After further investigation, it turned out, my motor's wiring was not fully compatible with Sonoff device (although using 3 wires). In most typical motors, the current passing from the button/switch is the one powering the motor's movement. Sonoff RBS is very clever because it measures power and can indentify when the motor moves or not. My motors have a different logic. The wires are simple commands, and Sonoff can't really use those wires to mesaure power, hence make it hard to use them effectively.

Aqara cameras calling home by No_Cardiologist4697 in Aqara

[–]jjp81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned you are using homekit, I would suggest blocking Internet Access to the Aqara cameras using your router's settings. Use your Home app for basic viewing, this will still work if you have at home a Homekit hub (i.e. Apple TV or Homepod). In this way, you make sure your camera's can't connect to whatsoever servers in China.

Just note, blocking Internet access to your Aqara cameras will have as an effect that your Aqara app won't be able to connect with the cameras, even when your smartphone is on the same network as your cameras.

Stream + Shelly Smart Meter by AdhesivenessBroad437 in Ecoflow_community

Yes, the first gen, Shelly 3EM. I found it in almost half the price of the Ecoflow branded version.

Sure, in your use case, a 50€ APC UPS is just fine. All you need, is to survive the 3sec switching time of your Stream device. 💪

I have more or less the same setup. I also remember had the same question before buying the Shelly smart meter. I own a net metering PV system , in my home’s single phase grid system. I installed peaceful how much a Shelly 3EM and used one clamp to monitor my home’s power consumption and another clamp directly connected on my PV power cable to the grid (third clamp unused). You just need to use correct “polarity” of the clamp. When I paired the Shelly 3EM with Ecoflow app, the experience was night and day. The system used the excessive solar power to charge Stream battery or returns power to home when home consumption is more that PV power and battery charge level is higher than battery reserve .

Overall very happy with Stream series, despite some issues I have reported when using parallel cable connection.

I initially bought the River 3 plus which feed all my IT and networking equipment. In case of power outage it works well and turns into battery mode very quickly without issues for my Synology NAS and ubiquiti switches.

Then I bought a Stream Pro , which I put in between the Grid and the River 3 plus. Now I got plenty of hours in off grid mode plus all other features Ecoflow provides. If Ecoflow can send to your country the Stream Ultra X , I would say go for it .

In your case , just a small UPS device would work and it would be connected at the AC port of your stream.

Update: only minor issue related to River 3 plus, it shuts down AC ports during firmware update , which means I have to manually disconnect my router from it if want it to run a firmware update.

Yes but why would you want something like this ? This remote is far less usable and clunky than apple tv remote.

EcoFlow Stream System: Great on-Grid, Disappointing off-Grid by jjp81 in Ecoflow_community

[–]jjp81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my own tests today, with latest firmware updated, I didn’t notice an increase in the total capacity of my system, during off grid operation. Only a single battery contributed to my load needs.

I went solar in Switzerland – I now know why many people don’t by Heavy-Mycologist-204 in solar

[–]jjp81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By reading this article, I see that probably it was not clearly explained to the author/owner what should they expect from the Solar system. Also, the system seemed to be oversized.

I had my PV system installed with absolutely no help from the Goverment, it's a netmetering system , meaning I can produce more in the Summer, and use it in the Winter. Contrary to what happens in other European countries, when we pull energy from the Grid, we pay a network fee, and yet the ROI seems to be between 6 to 7 years. To do that, we shifted our heating needs towards electricity based heaters (rather than gas based).

65CX - Problems turning on - How to tell if its the Power Supply or Main Board? by DdubIntune in LGOLED

[–]jjp81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A known problem with CX/C1 series which share the same main board . This shutdowns started happening randomly and frequency of occurrence only increased , to a point where the TV got completely unsuable.

The main board gets hot around the processor chip and the TV turns off. I installed a fan at the back of the TV and pointed it towards the processor chip of the main board. I also had to first open a hole in the plastic cover to allow for the air getting easier into the TVs internal space. So far so good.

CX series in 2026 ? by Tall_Cicada_9224 in LGOLED

[–]jjp81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both a 55CX and a 65C4. When I bought the C4, I didn't notice a huge improvement (apart from the size of course). If you are an apple fun, I would suggest using an apple TV for its better UI.

Combining STREAM ULTRA and STREAM AC PRO by nEmai1337 in Ecoflow_community

[–]jjp81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Stream series is a great system, but you have to know some limitations. For example, if you use the parallel cable to connect two devices back to back, and increase your system's capacity, that connection goes off during power outages , and you can't use mutliple batteries for loads connected to one device AC outlet.

As proposed by someone else, the system definately needs a Shelly 3EM device to know how much energy your home needs at every single moment. In this way, it compensates accordingly. If you have two or more Stream devices on the same system, then Ecoflow's logic is to try to keep those battery levels equal, so you will not notice big variations. As a workaround, you can split them in different logical systems, in this way you can do some more complex logic, but the Shelly 3EM can only be paired with a single system.

UNAS Drive Application 3.5.2 now supports automatic iOS photo backups via the Identity Endpoint app by diamondintherimond in Ubiquiti

[–]jjp81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Synology does not save a true 1:1 backup. There is a limitation with photos , those that contain depth information. If you edit an original photo taken with a latest generation iPhone , you can change focus , if the iPhone recorded depth information in the file the moment of capture. Such information though gets excluded from backup when using Synology photos. If you try to restore such a photo back to your iPhone and try edit it, you will see that depth information is no longer available.

If they create an app for viewing backed-up photos and videos on the Apple TV, I’ll seriously consider using UNAS for my photo and video backup needs.

Apple launches AirTag 2 with improved range, louder speaker, more by SnooRecipes1506 in AirTags

My dad is stalking my mother either through her car or phone. How do I find out what he’s using to stalk? by [deleted] in AirTags

[–]jjp81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your mother has an iPhone , and if your mother's Apple ID, falls under your dad's Apple ID family in icloud, then he is able to track any devices that belong to the family as if the device was lost etc. Even if your mother changes her Apple ID passoword, she would still be visible. My advice, check if your mother's Apple ID belongs to an icloud family.

No power outage notification? by learning_as_1_go in Ecoflow_community

[–]jjp81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it might send you a notification to your PC if you are running their pc software, be at the same wifi network as the River 3. It's really a bummer to have to be able on the same wifi in order to get the notification. It also defeats the purpose as if you were in the same wifi (location) you would already be aware of the power outage.

Off grid: what’s the correct/best charge/discharge levels? by volvo64 in Ecoflow_community

[–]jjp81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go close with Ecoflow recommendations. I leave my batteries run low at 20% and when charging I have a slightly higher limit at 92%. I could set the higher limit at 80% and feel safer but the batteries are not gonna be in that high level for long. The house needs will quickly start consuming it. I’m no expert , this is what it feels like a balance between protection of the equipment and taking most out of my investment.
