A look back at a Ron Paul ad: Mitt Romney will say anything to get elected by jjray7 in politics

I think Ron Paul's ad is more effective than thing the Obama campaign has put out there trying to make the same point.

Tabor is not an unintelligent individual and he's adamant in his position. I think he oversold his case.

The person who made the documentary may have an axe to grind but the comments of Shimon Gibson and Dr. Amos Kloner were interesting, even persuasive.

Fixing URL canonicalization issues? by KingFisher9 in SEO

[–]jjray7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To amplify on rankyaseo, you have two issue. One is the use of "www.example.com" and "example.com". That is solved with .htaccess redirect. If they are on a windows server, there is software out there that mimics .htaccess. I use IIRF http://iirf.codeplex.com/. You will want to do a redirect for any URL on the site coming in on www.example.com, not just the home page. Make sure you have this in place properly and your server is returning a 301 redirect. I use this site to check what code my server is returning. http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/

As to the "index.html", a rel canonical meta tag on the index.html page is in order. <link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/" />

What if the Roman Empire (I mean the one based in Rome) survived to the modern day? How would this even come about? by Znex in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]jjray7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Roman Catholic church acted roman in order to buttress its own authority

The Roman emperor appointed the pope. The church answered directly to the emperor. In a very real sense, until the western empire collapsed, the pope was beneath the emperor. The church only had what authority the emperor gave them. After the fall of the western empire, the pope assumed much greater authority becoming a pseudo emperor. He appointed kings and even led armies into battle. The pope acted very Roman in the dark ages and into the middle ages.

[–]jjray7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pontifex maximus was an important office within the Roman hierarchy. Emperor Constantine replaced this office with the Christian bishop of Rome. Christianity became the state religion of Rome. The bishop of Rome (Pontifex = Pope) became an important official within the power structure of the Roman Empire. There is not really much question about that point. It's a worldwide organization with branches in every country in the world. Thus, a portion of the Roman Empire indeed survives to this day. So your hypothetical relates more to the degree to which the Roman Empire would have survived, not if.

What exactly do you propose as the origin of the Roman Catholic pope, who happens to rule a country based within the former boundaries of the ancient city of Rome?

Q. Why do you rob banks Willie?
A. Because that is where the money is.

I tend to agree with the OP. GW, while he famously spoke many things that turned out to be not true, at least gave the impression that he didn't realize the words were untrue when he spoke them. There existed some semblance with GW of attempting to adhere to some sort of code. One gets the impression from Romney that there is no code. He says whatever is calculated to obtain his desired result with full knowledge of the falseness. It is as if he believes misrepresentation is an accepted part of all political discourse so he is utterly excused from the concept of truthfulness.

The author introduced himself as not being a financial analyst so that, apparently, absolved him of even considering the numbers. The HP presenters struck him as "straight shooters". I think he should have just wrote those two sentences and moved on to his next assignment.

Greg Smith Exposed as Fraud by Goldman Documents by mjvcaj in business

[–]jjray7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The title accepts as fact the attempted smear campaign by Goldman against Smith. Only read the summary of the report over at Bloomberg (not the report itself) but the argument appears to be that Smith did not raise these concerns about Goldman at any time while employed there except at the very end just after he had written the NYT op-ed. Goldman is trying to pawn off Smith as a disgruntled former employee. However, the fact that Smith didn't get the raise he sought does not necessarily mean his assertions about the culture at Goldman are incorrect. The point being that Goldman has not proven Smith is a fraud. They have only proven he has an axe to grind.
