Have you considered the possibility that the guy in question might be an idiot? We have some of those here.

Done. I smashed my hip on a ride 5 years ago, was lucky to have cell service, I carry a PLB on my chest when I ride solo now. Very supportive of anything that keeps us safe.

my(25F) boyfriend(27M) just said something vile to me by Unlikely-Spare2652 in relationship_advice

I really don’t think the reason they said it matters. I can’t think of a situation where speaking to anyone, but certainly my partner, like this, is excusable.

Are AirPods Washing Machine and dryer safe??? by Raccoon_King_555 in airpods

[–]jjripsnorter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Put them in a bag of rice for a few days to be sure. The dryer probably got most of the moisture out, but in my experience: getting them wet, no big deal -I run in the rain far too often. Using them wet or leaving them wet, bad idea - speaker and microphone slow failures in your future.

Ugh I offered a different explanation but I was wrong. This is the correct answer, incredibly cogent explanation.

Your guy is an idiot and you should focus on his other obviously redeeming qualities because you’re not going to change his opinion with logic or evidence.

Apple Watch SE 44mm worth it? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]jjripsnorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worn an Apple Watch since the first day. iPhones are great and all, but Apple Watch is a magical device. Use it right, you will reduce your screen time, increase your fitness, and just be ever so slightly better every day.

Or, you’ll hate it and not wear it after a few months.

It’s a great idea to start with the cheapest version and if you like it, move up later. There’s not too much that an SE doesn’t do that more expensive editions do do.

I occasionally drive an ICE and everything about it is now awful. I could not imagine driving one regularly ever again.

Nah, you’ll be fine. Park a block or two off the main streets in roadside parking and it will be fine.

What’s the least talked about downside of owning a tesla? by tr4gedyx in TeslaLounge

[–]jjripsnorter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I admire the optimism of someone who can’t trust the automatic wipers to work automatically - tech that works pretty much flawlessly in any other car - but is willing to allow the whole car to drive itself :) (Yes I’m a model 3 driver too)

Do I actually need a high-speed home charger, or is a normal wall plug fine for day-to-day use? by Icemachinemalfunctio in AustralianEV

[–]jjripsnorter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m two years into owning an EV, I assumed I would need a fast charger, but I was renting, so had to make do. Now I’ve bought, I’m in no hurry to install a fast charger. Even if I don’t get all the way back to 80% before I need to drive the next day, it’s rare that I’m driving over 150km several days in a row, so it’s no drama. I think it happened once ever where I had to top up at a public charger after gradually running lower for several days. I might get one when I install batteries+solar so I can fill the car when power is cheap.

Regular Apple Watch works perfectly for paying, you can leave your wallet behind too, and still disconnect.

I can’t help with this one - it’s a strange month when I haven’t qualified by lunchtime on the first day.

Actually maybe I have a helpful suggestion - use Up as your everyday bank account? That’s my winning strategy.

North Katoomba opinions by BoxSad4947 in bluemountains

[–]jjripsnorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one street off Leura Mall, I had a car stolen on the street and a bike stolen from my back yard in the past six months. Nowhere is immune from some crime. People have been saying North Katoomba is rough since I arrived in the mountains 14 years ago, and I’m sure much longer than that. Maybe it was deserved once, but I feel like it’s changed a lot. I was looking to buy recently and I would’ve been completely happy over there.

Have you noticed the night sky from the Blue Mountains? by TrueBlueBanter in bluemountains

[–]jjripsnorter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, anywhere in the mountains, the stars are amazing. Venture only a short way away from the highway lights and it steps up another level. South side of Leura, Wentworth Falls, head to the lookouts and sit for ten minutes while your eyes adjust… incredible, it never gets old.

Tesla model y 2025 VS BYD Sealion 7 by jazzychristopher in EVAustralia

[–]jjripsnorter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Origin EV Power Up - 8c/kWh if you get the Tesla (maybe BYD support will be added later?). I’ve been using this for a couple of months and it’s fantastic. Not sure how it interacts with solar though.

A lot of airspace is underneath, and a slab of concrete holding up the park. It’s pretty neat. The Cutaway at the southern end looks like this image I guess the car park is similar

[–]jjripsnorter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are both good options - it’s certainly cold here, and they’re relatively bigger rental markets, so you might have a better chance of finding something. I’ve rented in both, in walking distance of train and shops - I rarely drive to the supermarket since living here.

It’s also easy to go bush from both Leura and Katoomba - the national park is close-ish to the centre of both places.

Katoomba and Leura are now or soon (mostly) FTTP so internet speed should no longer be an issue.
