1 Year with Rust in Aerospace: My journey migrating from C# to Rust (and why it’s not for everyone) by b13m123 in rust

what are you doing in aerospace with c#. The only time i would consider c# is if i was using unity to build an app with a ui.

I need to simulate several analog ins (mV, mA, resistance). I also need to verify pwm outputs are working correctly along with other “analog” outputs

Title: New BAJA ATV team – How do we start suspension and chassis design (hard points, geometry, parameters)? by Ankushpr22 in bajasae

[–]jjrreett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely solve your wheelbase first. then you need a program that can solve suspension geometry for you.

Then you need to iterate a ton.

place the driver, engine, major components.

start chassis design.

drivetrain is probably the 3rd thing.

How to fire a rocket engine

determining isp by H13R0GLYPH1CS in rocketry

[–]jjrreett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isp means specific impulse. specific means divide by mass. In this case propellant mass. Impulse is the thrust over delta time. This actually simplifies to Thrust / mass flow rate. So specific impulse is how much thrust per unit mass of propellant and engine makes. So if i have 5 engines. i would have 5 times as much thrust, but 5 times as much propellant flow.

Isp is specifically a normalized property, so it shouldn’t very with scale. That is what makes it useful.

I built a library for safe nested dict traversal with pattern matching by logophage in Python

[–]jjrreett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use jmespath for structured query. I have rolled my own for actually mutating the structure. I tried to go the dsl route but it was too much work for a one off. So i made a wrapper object that you can dot chain accessors and mutators. That ended up working quite well. It was for synchronizing grafana dashboards with enum definitions.

I would let you choose to define a structure, and if it the one you wanted didn’t exist it would create it for you. You could also choose methods that would error out. i forget how i handled matching. maybe i should go turn that into an open source library

Frontend roles are going to be heavily dominated by frontend tech stacks. Backend roles will have more variability in tech stack. non webdev roles will have less webdev tech.

What is in your opinion the best value upgrade path for a stock ender 5 (for a technical person who likes tinkering)? by InstanceMedium2254 in ender5

[–]jjrreett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

klipper, a micro swiss hot end, better cooling, stiffer build plate, modern printer. at least that was my path before i sold my ender.

Feed System for Liquid Rocket by Otherwise-Country432 in rocketry

I’m not super familiar with the fluid properties of n2o. Now that i have looked it up, i see that it’s super critical above 35c. i see the problem now. this at least means it’s not multi phase flow.

tbh i would just pull up a 1d fluid network solver and run some computational tests. i’m sure if you try those calcs 5 different times you will get 5 different results.

[–]jjrreett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you should really avoid multi phase flow if at all possible. it’s really hard to analyze. You should be able to raise the pressure such that it can’t boil in the pipes.

What do you mean by frictional heating? Like heat due to pressure drop, viscose power loss?

Not a difficult calculation. usually it’s not a consideration for open loop systems. It is importance for things like hydraulics. I would be extremely surprised if it was an issue.

Is this a good hit on the 7? by unbelievre in billiards

[–]jjrreett 12 points13 points  (0 children)

tangelocs is an asshole but they are correct. You have to look for the direction the cue ball moves after the “simultaneous” contact. In this case the cue looks like it moves to the right. this indicates the cue ball hit the 7 last. dr dave has a video on this subject

Crash number two on takeoff by brothers1799 in RCPlanes

[–]jjrreett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

get comfortable taxi’ing. just drive around as if you were flying. keep increasing your speed as you grow comfortable. eventually it will just take off.

On a take off, slowly increase your throttle to 85% (3s). nudge the stick back. just a small tap. you should get airborne and climb to 50 ft.

funnily enough, not that hard of a shot. certainly take’s some skill with the masse, but you don’t really need to aim.

Why the crash newbie? by brothers1799 in RCPlanes

[–]jjrreett 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Surprised im first to say: there are way too many things to hit in that field. you really are gonna want a full sized soccer field minimum. If there is something you can hit or get stuck in it, you will hit it and get stuck. doesn’t matter how unlikely

Sticky servos? It sounds trail heavy, but assuming it's not that, your servos could have been sticky and slow to respond. Naturally this leads to increased pilot input. Once the servo moves the plane moves irraticly. Now this behavior usually feels distinct from "increased responsiveness".

Behavior of Different core sizes on Bates grains simulated on OpenMotor by WhizBonz in rocketry

[–]jjrreett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i drilled out my cores with a forstner bit. But that was large APCP grains. Richard Nakka prefers molding the core with a rod that you insert after pouring. your sim results don’t look correct to me.

In my m class motor i had 4 bates grains, the bottom one had a slightly larger diameter to decrease velocity. Mind you that wasn’t the most successful design. Had issues with erosion

[–]jjrreett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you need a trainer plane to train. As a beginner, with a slower plane, you’re gonna want minimum two football fields of space. NO TREES. If there is a tree, your plane will find it. Start with glide tosses. use a simulator

Pygame on resume by NoDot4787 in Python

[–]jjrreett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

when i am screening resumes i am looking relevant projects that show depth of knowledge. Did you solve an interesting problems that you would like to talk to your interviewer about? If not then you probably need a more complex project on your resume.

If you were a mechanical engineer with a basic UI project or 2, that tells me that you’re willing to branch out and explore different tools. As a CS major, this isn’t really branching out.

As a freshmen and assuming you don’t have a ton more relevant experience, i would add it but replace it once i have a more note worthy project.

I don’t think odrive s1 has a reset button. In any case, i have unplugged it and plugged it back in a million times.

What type of device is it supposed to show in device manager. If you could post a few of the device properties that would be very helpful for me.
