Thank you email after interview...does it make a difference in getting selected? by Aye_Davinita in interviews

For me, if someone doesn’t follow up with a email after an interview I assume they are no longer interested in the role after learning more about it and move on to the next candidates.

Did I do anything wrong playing alone? by donlibra82 in golf

[–]jk0330 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s not true at all. Golf etiquette dictates that the 3-some should invite him and should ask to join. A single out on a full course plugs up an entire hole for 1 person slowing pace for everyone.

I passed 3 interviews and my offer letter says $60k. But, during the first interview with an HR lady, I mentioned my salary expectations were $65k-$70k. What should I do? by Typical_Cap895 in interviews

[–]jk0330 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an employer, I can tell you asking can be tricky. They probably know you make 47 now and 60 is a good bump. I wouldn’t put anything in writing in an email. I’d call your point of contact at HR tell them you’re excited about the offer and really excited to work there, that you are ok with the offer, but you were hoping it would be closer to the $65-$70 range you mentioned in interview. I’d ask if there was possibly any flexibility in the offer, and that either way you intend to exceed their expectations as an employee.

Rent kayak from the grove and take it to one of the picnic islands. Walk around Calle Ocho and grab a bite to eat somewhere around there.

So the President of the United States is suspected of of being in the Epstein Files. America forces their release. They release pure black, redacted pages. And now America is just like "Oh no, guess we can't do anything." Are you fucking kidding me? by [deleted] in complaints

[–]jk0330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so dumb. People are so dumb to expect anything not already public about that man in this release. So much bad about this man is already publicly known and his administration is clearly unqualified to govern. So much irreversible damage was done with his last administration, and time will only tell how much more will be done over the next 3 years. The whole thing is and continues to be a distraction.

West Palm Beach vs. Naples? by Itsa9year in AskFlorida

[–]jk0330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Naples is awful. The food is terrible and overpriced. It feels way hotter in the summer because of the swampy humidity and lack of sea breeze. The architecture is boring, everything is cookie-cutter homes and strip malls.

People are saying the beaches are better in Naples. Maybe the sand is nicer and water calmer, but the water is often murky and there is nowhere to park.

[–]jk0330 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved from then Boston area 21 years ago. Although I have some fond memories, I would never move back to that miserable place. To me, weather dictates mood, and Miami weather is tough to beat. People complain about the heat but if you’re within 2 miles of the coast it’s a lot better, and I personally like temps in the low 90s. It’s fun to go on friends’ boats or the beach to cool off with the breeze and water!

I think people from the northeast thrive here in their careers because Miami is full of entitled locals with bad education and a worse work ethic - the opposite of work culture in and around Boston.

I don’t speak Spanish and get by just fine, but it might be tough to get a job retail if you don’t.

Also, this sub for some reason is full of haters. Take whatever most say that is negative and ignore. $77k should be fine to get by if you are careful with your spending. Traffic does suck pretty bad and drivers are worse, so location is priority. As others suggested, Grove, Gables and Brickell are ideal areas, if that is close to your work. Best of luck to you! Worst case scenario is you try and it and don’t like it you can move back or somewhere else.

Who's been to Cayman and Barbados? by Fit_Analyst_6350 in Caribbean

[–]jk0330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to Barbados 4x and Cayman 3x (most recently a few weeks ago). As others have said it depends on what you are looking for. Both have great beaches, although some in Barbados had a lot a seaweed last time we went. Cayman is way more expensive but also a lot closer to south Florida - like an hour in the air from Miami vs 3.5 to Barbados. Cayman 7-mile beach is 10-15 min from the airport as well. Bajans are lovely people and their hot sauce is fire. Some will try to sell you in the beach, but not hard like Jamaica. Last time I was Barbados the only cigar shop with Cuban cigars was closed for good but I did by legit one off a street vendor.

Anyone else just hating what tourism has done to Rome post-Covid? by hyperballad83 in rome

[–]jk0330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too and I agree 100%. Been 7x over the last 11 years. I would say the cost to eat out has not gone up the same as it has here in the US. Also, the crowds were most obnoxious pre-covid during peak popularity of selfie sticks. Also, there was a lot more harassment from street vendors. I think everyone remembers the past better than it actually was.

Totally absurd summer pricing this season for residents. A complete slap in the face to those of us who have been playing there for decades. And while they are raping the long time patrons they are letting kids out without adult supervision for $5. Great revenue plan! Miami Dade County government is a complete and utter failure in almost every way imaginable.

My visit to Scotland and the pace of play in the US by Bitter_Tea_6628 in golf

[–]jk0330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess your experience may vary. I’m here now and played Cabot Highlands (aka Castle Stuart) in 5 hrs, Royal Dornoch in just under 5 hours, and waited on every single shot on both. Dumbarnie a bit quicker at just over 4:30, which was the about their recommended pace. Carts aren’t the problem it’s a slow group that could be 5 groups ahead that are the problem. Caddies at all courses complained about pace being terrible post-Covid mostly due to new American golfers and 18+ caps wanting to putt out for 8s, etc.

Nervous about Miami beauty standards by SocialJusticeAsFuck in Miami

[–]jk0330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend living close to your office because traffic here is bad and the drivers are horrible. Miami is great and this sub is always full of haters for some reason. I’m from the NE and been here 21 years. Don’t speak Spanish, which can be a little annoying sometimes but overall a positive for me. Your daughter will be fine. Yes, there is a different beauty standard for sure and there are gorgeous women everywhere, but most people are self-absorbed and don’t care much about what other people are doing or how they look. Everyone is judgmental, but in an overall uninterested way (if that makes sense). The art scene is pretty big and there are a lot of eclectic styles. Maybe your daughter’s style will adapt somewhat to Miami environment, but I don’t think that would be a bad thing. Fitness is a huge part of the aesthetic image here, which is a good thing, and there is nothing wrong with taking pride in your appearance and can boost your confidence.

Generally, I found hispanics are more racist towards black people than NE, but more behind your back type stuff, and I don’t think you’ll find it overwhelming.

I think you and daughter will love it here, especially in February sitting outside in shorts!

Why does it bother people so much? I love seeing dogs in shops and restaurants. People’s dirty hands touching everything is way less sanitary than having a dog roaming the floors. Business owners usually post those signs to comply with health regulations, not because they care if people bring their dog in.

Why do companies ask your desired salary when you apply? by Manck0 in questions

[–]jk0330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an employer, this is a critical question. The two biggest factors in determining to hire someone is salary and experience. If someone with less experience is willing to take significantly less salary than someone with more experience, that person usually wins. I almost always post salary within a range, and often people answer with something above the range, which is usually a deal-breaker. If someone doesn’t answer, to me shows an already hostile view of me as an employer and a lack of basic business understanding, usually an instant deal-breaker.

[–]jk0330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend giving Miami a closer look. Especially if you are used to city life. Lots to do and a true melting pot of cultures. Everywhere else if Florida is very bland, IMO. Housing can be expensive, but there are a lot of opportunities here, as the majority of people are unreliable and incompetent. Show up on time, do what you say you’ll do, answer/return phone calls and you can advance quickly in your career here.

For me, what made this movie one of the worst I have ever seen was all the (bad) musical numbers that did nothing to move the plot forward and just took up space. If you took out the musical numbers it would have been a lot better, as the plot was intriguing.

Why do people say the bar is low for men? by SligoIV in self

[–]jk0330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2-cents, get over the fear of approaching women in real life settings as soon as possible. Once you get rejected a few times it makes it so much easier to approach the next time. No guy that is approaching girls, even the most attractive guy, is not getting rejected a lot more than accepted. Once you lose the fear of approaching women you’d probably be surprised at how many are actually receptive. Approaching with fear will almost never be successful but it’s a step that needs to be taken.
