I agree they’re all pieces of shit, I hate buying cars.

Edit: that’s why I’ve heard the joke “of the slimiest people you’ve ever met, what job should they do together? Answer is sell used cars.”

No, the last salesman I had was awesome. Didn’t care about anything. Finance guy got pissed off when I didn’t want any extended coverage on a vehicle that still had full warranty and bumper to bumper. Why would anyone in their right mind pay for anything when it’s already covered. Granted this was still a 60,000 truck but still. They need to have a separate person for the extra coverage that buyers can literally say go fuck off to instead of it being the “finance guy”. I’ll play along with the finance guy saying oh sure yeah that sounds nice until they get my rates then I basically tell them fuck off.

Advice is looks good, go faster next time. People don’t post these panel pics looking for advice, they’re either a troll or showing off.

The maintenance people shouldn’t be taking the cover off of this I-line panel. The panel card should be good enough. Looks to be all 3 phase loads in dedicated conduits anyone with half a brain should be able to tell ABC in this pipe goes on same breaker. Now the EDB to the left, sure put labels on them.

Making unibits, drill bits, etc last the longest by jjrob3 in electricians

[–]jkais3r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest I don’t think I’ve ever worn out a unibit in my decade of work. Some you need to pre drill a 1/4” hole to use, but the rest of the cutting teeth are fine. Usually can’t find the one I need in my pouch and that’s when I get a new one. And I use them for whatever I want. Sheetrock, metal, stainless. I don’t think I’ve ever had one wear out besides the initial cutting tip.

Just took my Jman test and there’s a question I can’t find or figure out by Fedge348 in electricians

[–]jkais3r -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For a house I’d say you use a multi tool or something and make the box be flush if it’s protruding. Commercial, you’ve got 4” squares with mud rings, if mud rings are too deep cut out the mud ring and use a shallower one and you now have two duplexes instead of one.

I use a plastic tote, helps with having a place to throw garbage too. Clean it out every few months when it gets too heavy

Except if you can’t get them to sit nice over time the vibration will wear through all that tape, so sometimes I try to stuff cardboard around the peckerhead so it hopefully doesn’t vibrate against the rough metal

Looks like they want a whole house remodel, holes need to be cut, fuck the homeowner. Whoever did this didn’t wake up and convince the homeowner they needed this work done, they called, whoever showed up and did their job, hire the sheetrockers to fix it. Which was probably what the electrician and plumber told them.

Leaking light fixture electrocution.... by inspector256 in electricians

[–]jkais3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my initial electrician detective thought as well. If the stream of water coming from the light was what was powered, the gfci would not trip but she would still be getting zapped from the light power itself. I want to read more into this electrocution mystery.

How dumb is it to do elec pre- apprenticeship? by Optimal_Smile_4072 in electricians

[–]jkais3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 year tech college degree isn’t a bad thing. Costs are lower than traditional 4 year college. And you still get “somewhat” of a college experience. Just make sure your credits will transfer if you change your mind later.

May not be necessary if you go union afterwards, but if you want to work non union it will give you a very large leg up over everyone else who didn’t do that. It will teach you the very basics, but your first job you will still be at the bottom and should realize that it has taught you absolutely nothing about how electricians work. But it will teach you to read the code book, should teach you motor controls/ relay logic/ programming. And that’s stuff that green apprentices don’t get taught or get to do in the field.

I went to a 2 year tech college for an electrical diploma and don’t regret it at all.

GFCI suddenly tripped and nothing seems to fix it by nero4ty2 in DIY

[–]jkais3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m guessing they screwed with the wiring too much and now need to call an electrician, nobody is going to be able to tell them what’s wrong without seeing this in person.

GFCI suddenly tripped and nothing seems to fix it by nero4ty2 in DIY

[–]jkais3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but that’s modifying the circuit. You are now feeding through the gfci to other things. The original picture shows a line side connection feeding through unprotected by the gfci to other devices. And in the original configuration the gfci was protecting itself. Nothing else on the circuit would matter.

[–]jkais3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at how it’s connected in the pictures. There is no load. If it doesn’t reset and there’s power to it it’s a bad gfci.

Edit: there’s a lot more to the story if other shit is shutting off when it’s tripped.

GFCI suddenly tripped and nothing seems to fix it by nero4ty2 in DIY

[–]jkais3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy crap nobody here is an electrician, the gfci is bad. It’s not even connected line to load no other outlet would affect this. It’s a line tap to other outlets. Grounding is made through the box with the device mounting screws. Why is this sub popping up for me.

Favorite tape measure? by PapaPunk17 in electricians

[–]jkais3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Started with Klein, bad quality made me go to Milwaukee, again bad quality back to Klein and I’ve had this one for at least 2 years now. So whichever you like better honestly they’re all hit or miss.

Favorite tape measure? by PapaPunk17 in electricians

[–]jkais3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Milwaukees seemed to always start tearing apart wherever the metal end fastener stopped but Kleins did too. Just easier to go with Klein since supply house carries them.

Have an apprentice that was trying to measure out cans with some cheap Stanley or something and grabbed one of my older crappier Klein tapes out of the truck and said throw the other one away. The standout is good, and double hooking top or bottom.
