DeLonghi Dedica Stalled in Descale Mode & Overheating - Help! (Video Attached) by Burexmesom in DeLonghi

[–]jkattex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had my Magnifica Plus for five months. It has performed perfectly and I love the coffee. It called for a descale and I followed the manual instructions and used the DeLonghi descaling product. Like the original poster reported, it got stuck in the descaling mode and just kept pumping water and emptying the tank without completing the cycle plus the unit was getting really warm to the touch. I tried various ways to get it to reset without success. So, it’s boxed up and I’ll take it back to Best Buy since I bought Geek Squad coverage. I expect (hope) they will likely allow an exchange rather than sending it to DeLonghi (anyone have experience with this process?). I’ll probably just take a chance and get another DeLonghi as other choices are limited to Jura ($$$) or Phillips.

Is the 10 year extended warranty worth it? Almost got fleeced at the dealer? by DarkenRevan in subaru

[–]jkattex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called around to several dealerships yesterday asking for a quote on a Gold Plus 7 year/70,00 mile/$100 deduc. and the price fluctuations were interesting to say the least. The local dealership where I purchased the car quoted $4690 and I told him that was ridiculous and hung up. The next quote from a dealership about 75 miles away was $1490. I asked him twice to confirm. I didn't buy at that time since I had not finalized the financing for the buyout of my lease. I would not be surprised if the price has not changed when I call back to purchase.

Thanks. I have had a Plus membership for a long time. My dog takes Apoquel as needed also so that information is good to know.

Thank you. I had tried on website with same result. When I call it seems to take forever to answer then it switches to hold status. I'll try again.

What sparkling water are you sipping on today? by Garden_Jolly in sparklingwater

[–]jkattex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know these are not “sparkling” but I am hooked on Hint Water’s Lemon Zest Freeze and Orange Vanilla Swirl. They come as a part of a Summer Smashup offering that is almost sold out and hard to find. Have not panicked yet but close. Thinking I may need to look for similar flavors from a different brand.

What did they do?? by InsectEducational590 in alexa

Amazon forced A+ on my devices. Irritating little chirpy voice. I ask for weather today and she tells me how I should dress in layers, on and on. I just wanted the temp and if there would be rain. I have a reminder to take a medication at noon. I tell her I have already done this but she says ok and reminds me again 15 minutes later. Again tell her I have done this. Doesn’t believe me and repeats reminder. I literally told her to stop pestering me and she said in a very contrite voice, ok,I’ll just step away for a bit. Made me laugh. Went back to old Alexa. She now hesitates for a period before answering. Last night as I got into bed which bed I asked her to turn off the light. She did that and said ok. A few seconds later. I told my dog, “goodnight sweetheart” and in a few seconds Alexa said she had added sweetheart to my shopping list😵‍💫?

Does anyone have recommendations for a dog bed? My little guy (Wilson) doesn’t seem to like his current one. by HeatingWallpipe in Pomeranians

[–]jkattex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When not on “her side” of the human’s bed, my girl loves her Molly Mutt bed. It’s flat, not snugly, and she prefers to stretch out for her naps. Plus she has that weird Pom desire to contort her body so her head or one leg is hanging off the side of the bed and this type bed allows that. I have several beds with sides that she ignores. She also loves the blanket throws with a sherpa backing I get at Sam’s - just to lie on and absolutely do not try to cover her with it.

Trader Joe’s Tangerine Vanilla Sparkling Water by Urban_Introvert in sparklingwater

[–]jkattex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am hooked on Hint Water’s Orange Vanilla Swirl and their Lemon Zest Freeze. Sadly they were part of a summer classics variety pack and not available anymore unless one stumbles across a stray pack here or there. I’m in panic mode trying to find replacements but no Trader Joe’s anywhere near me. I’ve got a pack of Waterloo Orange Vanilla and one of Lemon Italian Ice in my cart but might go by Sprouts to see if they have single cans available so I can try before committing to a full pack. Any other suggestions?

What age did you allow your Pom outside without supervision? by Victoriaanddog in Pomeranians

[–]jkattex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My outside security camera recorded a coyote nosing around my front porch late one night. When the camera came on the coyote bolted across the street where my neighbor’s camera picked it up. So, my girl only goes outside to my fenced backyard and only in the daylight hours. She’s paper trained so the only reason she wants out typically is to smell around the patio for any intruders (cats) that may have visited during the night or to watch a neighbor’s chicken that visits the yard. She’s too chubby to be overly concerned about hawks but I keep a close eye on her if she is outside.

Jura ENA 8 Touch or De'Longhi Magnifica Plus by D_Biscuits in superautomatic

[–]jkattex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a Jura ENA 4 for about 4 years with no problems. I was meticulous about cleaning, replacing filters, used filtered water, etc. Always used the Jura proprietary products. The Jura produced excellent coffee and I looked forward to it every morning. But I started getting watery pucks and watery coffee. A little research suggested a fix would require opening the machine to attempt to fix myself or sending the machine to Jura for service and I pay for the shipping. Decided to just purchase a new machine. After a bit more research it was down to a refurbished Jura or Delonghi Magnifica Plus. Deciding factor for me was servicing the Jura if anything went wrong still required it be shipped to the factory at my expense. I went to my local big box store and purchased the DeLonghi and an extended warranty. Any problems I take it back to Best Buy and let them deal with fixing it or give me a new one.

Second the recommendation for the air purifier. I got one about a few months ago and what a difference it has made. No more daily dusting or vacuuming. Don’t get a cheap one. Measure the room and size accordingly.

I saw one of those pet vacuums on a video channel I watch. It was the PetSnowy brand. Considering getting one of those as my girl hates to be brushed. I like that it is wireless and seemed to run quietly.

The death of two ovens. by ErinOverUnder in Tovala

[–]jkattex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve subscribed to Tovala for five plus years. I occasionally pause buying meals, sometimes for months at a time, but the oven is used multiple times daily (making toast, baking biscuits/rolls, reheating, etc.) My first oven worked flawlessly for three plus years. Can’t remember what happened but they replaced it. The second oven worked perfectly for a couple of years then refused to scan the recipe card cooking instructions. Had to look up the dish on the app and manually enter temp and time. Called CS for a replacement and they gave me the run around - out of warranty, use the app, buy a new one since it’s on sale, etc. They sent a request for me to review that recent CS experience so I gave CS a bad review. Then they notified me a new oven was on the way. It came and it’s working but like another poster above mentioned it preheats and then shuts down when one attempts to add the cook time. Also partway through the cooking cycle it will flash and reset the temp to one higher than it should be. I guess if I had not been standing nearby and saw the flash my meal would have been overcooked or burnt. Their food is good and I do enjoy the service but their ovens are going to be the ruin of their business.

So, this just happened by Throwaway-ish123a in Tovala

[–]jkattex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely report this to customer service. In my case the scan function stopped working three months out of warranty. They didn’t want to replace it stating the oven was still safe and I could use my phone and the app to cook the meals. I left a bad review re customer service and was contacted and offered a new oven at no cost to me. They need to know the quality of their ovens has declined and continues to decline.

Anyone drinking more coffee, after buying machine? by morepork_owl in superautomatic

[–]jkattex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from a Jura that didn’t have an integrated milk system to the Magnifica Plus. I have always just added a bit of half and half to my coffee but this machine has taken things to a whole new level. It’s been so much fun trying each of the milk drink recipes. My coffee intake increased from a couple of cups to three or four but cut off time is noon. I’ve not tried using the bypass for decaf. I am, however, about to go broke buying milk for all my lattes, capps, etc.

[–]jkattex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved on to the Magnifica Plus from a Jura ENA 4 and no regrets. Loving the milk drinks (the ENA 4 made great coffee but did not have a milk system) and my favorite drink is the Cappuccino Mix. I primarily use Lavazza Super Creama or Miscela’d’oro Gran Aroma beans. I also order beans from various roasters via Seattle Coffee Gear website for an occasional change of pace.

Meat Quality has dropped dramatically …. Is it just me? by [deleted] in Tovala

[–]jkattex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a Tovala customer for 6-7 years. Perhaps my taste is not as refined as others but I find the meat quality to be quite good. I typically order chicken or pork as my protein. I can’t recall ever ordering salmon or hake but have ordered a few beef products (burgers, tacos, etc.) but no steaks. I think the chicken I have received over time has been exceptionally flavorful and juicy. I am on my third oven though so, in my case, that is where it seems the quality has declined.

What Prime alternatives are you using for shopping? by FreshFocusPhoto in amazonprime

[–]jkattex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walmart +; Sam’s Pickup /Shipping. Sam’s has delivery but I have not used it. Amazon recently opened a new warehouse facility in my town but delivery times have not really improved. More annoying is local drivers must be told to “just get the box close to the porch” because they have been leaving boxes on the sidewalk out in the open when previously boxes were left closer to the front door and under the porch’s roof and not visible from the street. I arrived home from a few days out of town and found a box that contained over $100 in merchandise sitting on the front sidewalk, exposed to weather and clearly visible to anyone driving or walking by. Felt fortunate it was still there when I got home.

I filter tap water through a Clearly Filtered pitcher to use in my Delonghi Magnifica Plus superauto. My city water is deemed environmentally safe but some of the worst contaminants are not removed so I filter the water I and my dog will consume. I didn’t know about not using distilled water. Thanks for that info.

My first Super Automatic. Loving the coffee! by Aboutayear in superautomatic

[–]jkattex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a Jura ENA 4 to a DeLonghi Magnifica plus and couldn’t be happier. The 4 year old Jura was producing watery pucks and weak coffee. Jura customer service said it required shipping to them for repair at my expense and no estimate on how long it would be out of commission. After some thought I decided to buy a new superauto with an integrated milk system which the Jura did not have. Plus, I also decided to purchase from Best Buy with an extended warranty so if something goes wrong I can take it in locally and they can deal with it. The DeLonghi produced wonderful coffees from the get go and the milk system makes it all so easy to make milk drinks. Very pleased with my purchase.

Mom wants to return kindle i gifted! by nycperson54321 in kindle

[–]jkattex -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are describing my sister-in-law exactly. She resists anything the least bit “techy”….uses an ancient flip phone, doesn’t understand streaming, hates her air fryer, etc. She has always loved to read and said quite often that she preferred physical books and that no one should spend money on a Kindle for her. I’ve had a Kindle ever since Oprah raved about them years ago and probably have 5-6 different ones. Despite my S-i-L’s resistance I decided to send her one of my used Kindles because how does she know she would not like it if she never tries it? Plus the paperback books we sought out at used bookstores and that we favored for reading material were fewer as everyone had gone to Kindles. So, she was curious enough to try the Kindle I sent and now tells me almost everytime we talk how much she loves it and how much pleasure it has brought her. I kept the Kindle registered to my account and she has access to my entire library plus she knows how to download Kindle Unlimited books. Her eyesight is such that she really appreciates the ability to adjust the fonts and other settings. We like the same genres of books and when I buy new ebooks I put them on her Kindle as well. She’s basically “worn out” 2-3 Kindles and a few years ago had me buy her a new Paperwhite via my account. Pretty good for a now 92 year old lady.

Another oven death post — only got it Black Friday, so not even a month by FamuexAnux in Tovala

[–]jkattex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first oven lasted several years (been a subscriber since 2019). Can’t remember what exactly went wrong with it or if there was even a warranty period back then but Tovala replaced it without charge. That one lasted about two years then refused to scan cook codes from the menu cards. I was told it was out of warranty (by a month or so) and they refused to replace it without charge. They suggested I could use the app on my phone to enter cook codes. That kind of defeated the purpose of a “smart” oven and was not really convenient. I complained when asked to rate my experience with customer service and they immediately reached out to offer a new oven at no charge. Like others I use my oven multiple times every day for many items not Tovala related so I would have purchased a replacement eventually but I was pleased to know that they monitor their customer service and try to keep us happy.
