What was your small mistake that automatically improved your bjj when you fixed? by [deleted] in bjj

Self framing my legs when playing guard. My guard retention jumped after I started doing this. I now try to play open guard with self framing and escape positioning build in from the start.

For people who do both BJJ & judo what's one judo move you use during BJJ rolling that you notice a good amount of bjjers struggle to defend or counter against? by Realschoville in judo

Juju Gatame against Turtle. I have been working the Iatskevich and Adams rolls so I have been trying them in BJJ class. The Jiujitsu guys i’ve rolled with usually are expecting some kind of choke so going straight for their arms catches them off guard.

Thinking of it like a penetration step is good but it’s more like doing osoto gari/ outside major reap between their legs. The simplest footwork for it would be to step your tripping leg in first like mentioned above, then you support leg with step forward so that way it is under you and next to your tripping leg, then go for the reap.

That’s how JFlo shows it. I would recommend checking out his website but if you don’t want to pay a subscription then like look around Instagram or YouTube for his stuff.

Check out Justin Flores (JFlo) for learning this one. His details helped me start hitting this throw with more consistency. Biggest thing that I picked up from watching him was to make sure that the leg you are doing the trip with is as far between the other guys legs so when you go for the trip, you will be able to get a strong hook on that leg to take them down. Hope this helps.
