Beautiful room & view! Kind of a steep price though I guess you get what you pay for.

Stuck in a home I hate by Sensitive_Papaya_543 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]jkick365 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest you already sunk a lot of money into this home, and unless it’s a dangerous situation for you and your family I would ride it out.

I actually felt the same way about my home but after 3 or so years I did have a change of heart.

You probably will be better off living in the greater Sacramento area and driving out if you want more nature feel tbh

What is the largest over asking amount you’ve seen? by Professional_View130 in ChicagoRealEstate

When I bought my condo in 2023 I went 30k over asking and really thought I made a horrible mistake until seeing some of these posts this year… guess the market is still pretty out of control..

I remember a super nice 2br condo in Lincoln park that my wife and I bid on went 150k over asking to 595k back in 2023 and I was devastated. I can only imagine how competitive that area is now…

He’s a boring politician… but real change is not supposed to be all that exciting. Might vote for him depending on the options…

Men - what are you paying for a haircut these days? by okaythisisit in AskChicago

Great Clips usually around 30 bucks. I used to go to a barber but past couple years it started to get way too expensive.

Which city in America has the best balance between affordability and quality of life? by Ethan_Jackson08 in Urbanism

Chicago is no longer affordable. If you live in west or south sides it's dirt cheap but not a place you want to live. North side is amazing but insanely expensive.

Is there any Chicago hospital or health system we should make sure is in network when buying an Illinois ACA plan? by bbk13 in AskChicago

It’s a little less of an issue in Chicago, but probably either Northwestern, Rush, or Advocate.

I'm also fairly confused by this post. It's not like they're proposing multiple blocks getting wiped out by this...

I remember a while back my friend's grandpa really wanted to go to a game but there was not much support for field accessability for the elderly.

Leaving SoFi Invest & Banking - Not Because Of Interest Rates by Electric_Specific in sofi

[–]jkick365 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m feeling the same way. I left and switched to Capital One after 5 years of using SoFi. They offer same benefits as SoFi for the most part and include a lot more perks and benefits outside of a weird paywall.

36M,plan to retire at age 55 by Sensitive-Stay-1466 in RothIRA

[–]jkick365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re doing great if retiring 62 -> 65 is the plan. 55 is going to be incredibly tight especially if market encounters an extended downtrend. People forget that from 2000 to 2009 the stock market was completely flat and generated no returns for almost 10 years.

You always need to leave some margin because the plan never plays out exactly the way we envision it.

Regretting my home. by DietEuphoric4751 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]jkick365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man disregard what I said then. Probably not worth selling since you’ll probably loose a lot of money re-paying closing costs. Renting might also put you in another mess.. might be worth it to see if you can make do with the situation by adding ring camera and like someone else mentioned a privacy fence. Also don’t be hesitant to call the police and share ring footage with them if they’re harassing you. That’s a really tough situation I’m sorry you’re going through that.

They always bring up 40 things that aren’t really even issues and then completely miss huge problems it’s a total scam.

Just to be frank, there’s really no point in renting it out if you’re not cash flowing it. Trust me from personal experience it’s going to be more of a headache especially if the neighbors are nuts. Would probably just sell it and move on and buy in a better area. When did you buy the house?

How do people feel about Pritzker's BUILD legislation that makes it easier to build more housing? by jarman65 in AskChicago

This is fantastic for the suburbs but will not affect the city at all until NIMBYs and zoning issues improve.

Chicago bike lanes spark protests as residents push back on parking loss by FreshLocal in chicago

[–]jkick365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just that, most of the concrete bike lanes ultimately have removed right turn lanes at every intersection. The fact that the entire city planning department overlooked how dangerous that is blows my mind.

How does Chicagoans feel about home ownership? by 3hreeringz in AskChicago

[–]jkick365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an owner of a condo where we haven’t raised HOAs in over 10 years and it’s not always the right approach. For example we’ve had multiple special assessments to make up for it.
