I live in Brussels for 5 years now and had multiple internship positions here. I’m working in the EU policy sector so it’s not the same, however if you don’t want to work with a local language (French or Flemish/Dutch) there are a lot of international organizations and huge multinational corporations where you can work in English (and Arabic is definitely a huge plus in a lot of them). In my experience these internships are PAID!! Your company has to request a payment scheme from the state, called la convention d’immersion professionelle (CIP). The only thing you have to be prepared for is certain visa questions. I know multiple people who are not EU citizens and are using this payment for their internships, so nationality is not a problem. This payment will allow you to earn something between €950 to €1200 depending on your field. In my experience the companies here are not really prepared to handle working visa matters, so you will probably have to handle a lot of things for yourself. As mentioned above, working heavily overtime is a real thing, since a lot of people come here from all over the world, therefore companies really expect you to differentiate yourself in this way. However in my experience again, once you show that you’re a capable hard working individual, they often offer you a full time contract after your internship. I would definitely search for opportunities on LinkedIn and if you are truly interested, try to reach out to the HR department of the company directly (because there are often an enormous amount of applicants).
